Dryer fire prevention. How to test for Grounded heating element. Continues heating with door open

In this video I go over how to test for a grounded dryer heating element. When the heating element is touching the frame of the dryer it will stay on even with the dryer door open. If the dryer is not in a opposition that heating element will continue to stay on. This is a very dangerous problem. When you’re testing for this problem be sure to unplug the dryer. Dryer fires are very common and most of the time you’ll never know exactly what happened. This is probably the cause of a lot of dryer fires. A grounded out heating element will just stay on.

Replace the element and inspect the new element before installation.

Hi my heating element is good but it still stays on plus I checked both thermostats.

It can stay on even after the timer is at 0. The entire dryer will get fire hot..... probably even catch on fire if it is left plugged in. This happens a few times a year for me. It happened at a customers house and luckily she saw it and unplugged it.

Yeah I’m always double check before I sell. I’m kind of wondering if this is not the main cause of Dryer fires.

@@WasherDryerMoney I don't know, for some reason, people have a very hard time with the lint. lol All washers and dryers are always tested but sometimes, as you know, once they are hooked up at the customers house it is a whole different story from what it was at mine or your shop. The reason I remember the 1st time this happened at a customers house is because it involved a stinging scorpion, a speeding van and my pants falling down! 😲

Yeah I have learned to check this as soon as I open the back of a dryer up. This will really screw up the rest of your testing if you don't realize what's going on.
