Nice to see old style dryer working on the farm, I'm from north central Ohio and we used to have one back in the 60's. Always got the job done but couldn't keep up with the combine, we had to put the crops in a bin and take it back out as the dryer was ready for more. Lot of work but the crops didn't spoil. My dad bought a new dryer like that when I was a teenager we dryer a lot of corn through it they are a lot easier than late model one we have today we can adjust and monitor our current one from a smart phone now but some days think simple is better great video thanks
I help a guy that has a similar dryer although his is all set up with an electric auger system that fills and emptys automatically, but otherwise the same. He doesn't do wheat or canola, but does dry lots of corn with it. It will steam up the same way just like this. One thing the video doesn't show is the smell that comes off of these. The whole litter valley around his grain bin setup smells like fresh popcorn while it's running. I love it haha.
Interesting dryer you have there. We also use batch dryers from 15 - 30 m3 volume. This year we started drying rye with a moisture of 30 % and it was 14 hours in the dryer. We use oil to produce the heat (about 70 degr. C) and electricity for the fan. Oil consumption in a small dryer is about 4 gall. per hour and oil price is 3,2 USD per gallon.
No not really... but this year has been exceptionally difficult. Everything is like 4-5 weeks later than normally. Usually we dry the wheat for about 5-6 hours because it has to be less than 14 % moisture, meaning you have to dry it to 11-12 % to be sure.
We used to have a batch dryer until we decided to raise more corn so we upgraded to a continuous flow dryer. We won't be using ours for a while yet as we are a ways away from combining corn. We're getting rain now here in MN. 3 inches so far with more forecast On Tuesday. Hope it quits soon or it will be a miserable harvest.
These Opico dryers are both common and popular here in the UK. An added advantage is that they will polish a sample as well as clean up a sample of small rubbish and any soil contamination however this makes them a dirty, dusty piece of equipment to run. What is amazing is if they are drying a wet sample is the steam being driven off!

A part of me died when they stoped marking IHC. Case is case but had nothing to do with IHC. I was at the dealer when the first 560 came out and when thought it was the end of the world. THEN when the 806 came out we thought it will never ever get better. The rest is history. Say hey to Shawn.
No shortage of batch dryers in Sask. they sit around abandoned everywhere. We had a toxowik 370, as well as a grain chief. Then went into SuperB automated batch dryers

Great vid Tyson Shaun probably talks when not on camera , I can tell he is a pretty good hand. Hutterite colony has a continuous dryer for corn and it's huge and does a crazy amount of bu/hr I'd like a batch dryer like yours if we ever tried to grow grain corn again, it costs us $1/bu to get are corn custom dried so after the corn price got so low we just quit growing it.
Yea.. personally I hate drying cause its another cost... but you have to do what you have to do to get it to keep. There is a 800 bushel batch dryer and thats the one id really like, and you can take them anywhere with a tank
Great video. I noticed you have multiple small storage bins instead of a few big one like here in the states. Is the advantage that the small ones are movable?
Interesting to see don't see them here in aus ( not our part anyway ) Grain is well and truly dry by the time we strip here> what is the gas cost per load to dry?
does the machine say when it is dry or do you have to test it independent of the machine with something else. I think you said I just couldn't understand.
No... The new ones do.. they are all computerized. You have to take a few samples to check and see where the moisture is at... if you know what it is going in... you have a pretty good idea how long it takes
