Thanks Jim, this was a great overview on DSD+. I managed to set mine up using Unitrunker, which is a little more polished but I don't think as versatile as DSD+. It doesn't do things like DMR. I think I'll do a short video on how I set it up, but I'm not an expert on it. It looked a little bit easier to me to set up thand DSD+, at least for me.
@@FEPLabsRadio not yet, still in scanner purgatory. Couldn't get that file to download.. the fft file. Read some comments that it doesn't like chromium and to try internet explorer. I kinda needed to walk away at that point before I broke some stuff :) I'll give it another go soon and if no joy I'll set it up on the RTL I ordered.
Thanks Jim. I haven't seen this software yet, okay with multiple monitors maybe. Not having an install file and running batch files reminds me of dodgy 90's software, lol. Looks good with what it provides though.🍻👍🤓
Could you recommend the dongle? I have a 10 year old dongle that works great for DMR and FM analog but I have never been able to get more than a half dozen words before it breaks up with P25. My signal looks strong. I would give another dongle a try but I want to make sure I buy the right one. My laptop is a Lenovo W530 i7 with 16Gigs of ram. I tried this on my Desktop and still no luck with P25. I am using DSD+ 1.101 with SDR#. I found if I ran DSD+ separate from the CMD prompt it get better audio. Just know luck getting P25. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks
I have several of these, and they work very well. I use these all the time: amzn.to/3LRSWUs Part of your problem with P25 is if your system is a simulcast system. That is a lot harder to keep up with. Check radioreference.com for detailed data on the system you're trying to monitor. The other issue with any trunked system, is that you need 2 dongles for best results. One for the control channel, and another dongle for the actual voice traffic. Absolutely. DMR and P25 P2, are close cousins to begin with, and your scanner doesn't care that they are different systems. I scan both types on my Uniden 996P2. The only downside, really, is that if you have a busy DMR talkgroup, that will hold the scanner on that TG, and you'll miss P25 traffic. But, it will absolutely work.
For monitoring, any antenna is better than none, but, the discone style is super widebanded, and as a bonus, is good enough to transmit on (Diamond is my recommendation).
