DSLR microphone comparison: 1) Internal Mic of Canon 5D Mark III, 2) Rode VideoMic Pro (~$230), 3) Rode NTG-1 (~$250), 4) Rode NTG-3 (~$700), 5) Sennheiser MKH 416 P48 (~$1000).
Rode VideoMic Pro was connected directly to the camera; switched to +20 dB option which gives the best results. All the other mics were connected through iRig PRE audio interface that provides XLR input and optional phantom power. More about iRig PRE used with DSLR: www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2012/11/1... Rode NTG-1 had the built-in high pass filter turned ON (I only noticed that after my testing).
The video consists of a quick vocal test, a quick singing test, a quick noise test and a full length test.
And I'm sorry about my accent, guys, we don't speak English as a native here ;)
