I have a cannon 80D but lately its recording but then freezes in the middle of shooting with no message on the monitor or camera itself. Can you explain why its happening? Is it the camera Ive had my 80d since 2015
You went in depth with this one! And I learned so much about resolutions for the camera stopping. I appreciate you for taking the time to break it down! Thanks!
Thanks for explaining. Yes exactly, I'v got an old DSLR and was wondering what was going on at the 12 minute mark. Now i know - Thanks! But sad to learn theres no fix other than restarting the record once it automatically stops.
this was really interesting and helpful. I have a canon mirrorless camera and it stops at around 29 mins. But I will definitely looks at the memory card video now. to make sure that I buy ones that suit my camera better. I have always just brought random ones and paid not attention to what was on the frond.
Thanks, Camber! Finally started using my Canon EOS 2000D (it was a gift, and I'm really grateful for it!) to record about 15 minutes of footage - I heard an odd noise while recording and when I finally started editing, I noticed that video wasn't recording anymore...so annoying. Glad I know why, at least, thanks to this video. Pretty sure my camera is just old - I mean I've used up 3 or 4 GB on a 128GB card!
Yea. A lot of older cameras also have a 4GB limit on video files and will stop recording when hitting that (which corresponds to around 11-15 minutes on most lower end cameras).
This was interesting and helpful. I always thought it stopped recording because the camera got too hot. Thanks for this. New subscriber, stay in touch!
Hi Camber. Thanks. I had not really registered that different types of SD cards used different filing systems. I should have realised, but did n't! That old EU Customs duty time limit does seem to be taking a long time to get phased out of the firmware in some brands. It's an easy fix for the manufacturer, why the delay? BobUK.
After watching your video i got the adaptor for my microsd card and found out that it is an hc model. So i have to resort from making a timer every 20 minutes. (The manual of my camera doesn't say why they have the restriction but i guess its for tax issue) Thank you for the info!!
My only main issue is Being unable to use my Canon EOS M200 as a webcam in OBS for long time due to overheating announcement popping up and auto shutting down :(
Never know about this issue .. its concerning 🤭.. don’t know the case with my canon m50. hv to keep an eye on it. Thank again camber for providing these valuable infos 🤗
Great video! Really learned a lot about these issues and different ways you can potentially fix them. FAT32, now that's something I have not heard in a while. :P
Hey Camber, thanks for the video! One question, please: my canon 60D recorded one video for 29:50 long, I formated the card and now it is recording only up to 12 minutes. How can I make it record again up to 29:50? My SD card is 128GB and is empty right now. Thanks again!
@@CamberFilmSchool i also did a test and just changed to 1920x1080 24fps but also recorded up to 12min. So frustrating, right? I need longer videos to shoot classes, so I am considering Magic Lanter.. do you think is a good idea?
Great video, thank you for helping with video recording situations. My T100 stops at about 11 minutes even with the sdxc card. I even put in a new 128 gb samsung pro plus with a write speed of 130Mb/s. It could be that I didn't format first. My other card did it as well, so I am a little puzzled.
I have a Canon 80d and whenever I'm recoding after a few minutes it refuses which causes the visual footage to have black out for a second and then the e footage reappears in focus. How can I fix this. Why can't it remain in focus throughout? Please help
The size card doesn’t matter. On that camera it will automatically stop recording at 29 minutes and 59 seconds. It’s a software issue. Does it stop before that?
Unfortunately I just became more confused. I used an SDXC card U3 class, rated V30 with 128 GB of space and my EOS Rebel T6 hits that movie recording stopped automatically around 22 minutes the first time i caught it and on another time i discovered it stopped around 12 minutes. However, I'll try the formatting in camera trick to see if that gives me at least 30 minutes but I really wish there was a firmware hack or upgrade to at least enable loop recording so that even if it means splitting up the files, at least it continues recording. Nothing more upsetting than recording improv content and having something happen you'd only see once in a lifetime and find out you didnt catch it on camera like you had set it up to do -__-
Yep, I know the feeling. That’s why I don’t like using canon cameras anymore. They continually put unnecessary limitations on their video features. Sony cameras will fix most of your technical problems when it comes to various video limitations.
I actually made a video on my camera suggestions that you can check out here ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uvpu2rE7RM4.html ). Each of these cameras will still have the 30 minute limit, but if you want to get around that then you'll have to shell out a few grand for one of the newer ones like the Sony a7Siii
That’s strange. Only reason they stop at 12 minutes is because of a filing system in SDHC cards that stops the recording at 4GB which usually ends up being around 12 minutes.
I have a canon t3i and am currently using a 128 GB sd card with 150 MB/s and class 6. Even still, my camera automatically stops recording video after only around 20 seconds. Anyone have any idea why else this could be? Clearly not the card and tried formatting the card.
I have an old canon 60d which now stops recording a few seconds after it starts, however, it is not heated and I am using and formatting class 10 fast memory cards in it and it still does the same, so what may be the problem? thanks in advance
@@CamberFilmSchool thanks for your reply, actually i tried all the scenarios and nothing worked, though it is working well in photos. İ will have to check with a technician .
I have a canon SL1. I 'somehow used the video successfully a couple yrs ago.....no issues. NOW that I've decided to try an external mic, (or not) and I've probably changed some settings based on videos....the camera will record for about 5 sec and close out. I've tried several diff cards BUT I know the one I did a couple yrs ago, I used the same Ultra 16 gb, 80mb/ class 10 HC card w/ no problems....NOW I've got problems....5 SEC videos?????
No. I just looked up the manual and it says a 16Gb card should give you 44 minutes @ 1080p so the only thing I can think of is maybe the card went bad. I’ve had that happen before.
Eos R5 What if continuous recording 4k hq mode at lower fram rate such as 30 fps there is no problem with heat but after 30 mins the camera will stop recording or auto start recording the new clip by itself ?
@@CamberFilmSchool alright, got it. Thank you. I wish that ML could do some software for this model as well the movie restart feature is very useful for the long run record.
Yea. That’s the reason. Unfortunately they are technically “photo” cameras with “limited” video features. But those limits are unnecessary in this case.
