I am new to shooting video with my Nikon d610. The information here is very good. I learned a lot from you. I do understand the issues of the tax laws, so I will be getting used to switching on and off video. I want to learn slow motion and I believe you covered it a little bit. If you can, please make a video on this for us newbies.

Great info. I have a 7200 and have used it extensively for stills but never for video. I'll give that a try now that I know how to set it up. Sadly, I've been too lazy to read the manual about video since I have not had a reason to use it for that. The tax law thing limiting the file length was completely news to me. I hadn't any idea about that. Thanks again!

Hi and thank you so much for this very helpful tutorial. The best I’ve seen!! Especially about the shutter speed formula. My question is one that I cannot find an answer to anywhere - I have assigned the focus button to the AE-L/AF-L button and wondered if you know of another option to lock the exposure to avoid the light changing when shooting during the day. My camera is a nikon d750 I would be so grateful if you can help. Thanks. Louise

Yes. We do video on my D750 and D7200. But it is quite limited compared to even a smartphone.

And now after watching your video I have to say it is even better than the first one I watched. My comment however, would be the same. The camera is just too Video Cumbersome to use at any kind of event where people and the photographer will be moving about.

Nice. I'd reinforce, ISO adjustment in Live View will give the camera operator an idea of proper exposure for each clip. BTW, my goal is to be able to get a product with my DSLR like the one of the Rolling Stones Video "Hate To See You Go".

how can i check for correct exposure while shooting video in live view mode?

Having set the shutter speed,the f.stop and Iso correctly.How do you know the image is properly exposed.Any thing to look out for.

20 minutes time limit on the Nikon is not a problem for me. I can always stop shooting and adjust the location and start over again. In fact, for me, it is a big pros. As I am not a pro, shooting videos only occasionally, so I can always stop shooting and have a glass with something strong between them and here we go again.

My F only goes down to 3.5 and ISO doesnt have 160. Can you help? Thank you so much for your video

Oops ...I started that comment while watching a different video and yours started playing afterwards and I didn't realize it. For some reason RU-vid attached my comment to your video instead of the one it was intended for.

Great video and I do thank you Haven't used my D7200 for video so this is helpful. For me however I have to shoot an event next weekend and people won't be standing still. This is so cumbersome with this camera. Stop and re-focus. Stop and change the aperture, So much easier to just use a phone which focuses on faces continually. Even my 12 year old Fuji s100FS continuously auto focuses in video. I just don't get why shooting video is so primitive on my Nikon equipment. If I din't have 12 Nikon mount lenses plus stuidio strobes and several speedlights ...all dedicated to Nikon ...I'd just go with Sony. I'm not impressed at all with Nikon's mirrorless cameras (yet) and I think by the time they are on par with Sony's current models ...Sony will have leapt miles ahead again anyway. Very frustrating.

You explained everything well except you didn't say how to know if the exposure is good ? Whether the видео will be overexposed or underexposed. Or I missed something...
