I've been fixing all the little things to get this DT400 back working again and finally got to the elephant in the room. It has no spark. This is a short video and you'll see what I found in just a few minutes of viewing.
obviously the metal shavings were made when the engine was rotating. so it had to be running while scraping the metal it must have been a gradual wearing down. check and see if steel or aluminum. look for gouges/scrapes where there shouldn't be. just thinking of where i would start, maybe clean up and try a refit might start working. am sure all this rambling I'm doing you have already tried.
As long as the crank has not been ruined, its fixable reasonably cheaply. Someone wasnt mindful enough when attempting the Vapes first fit. Get your wallet out Byron.
The crank appears to be fine. A new stator will only run about $120 so that's not too bad. I'll get into it today and find out where all the metal came from.
That is to bad about all the filings in the rotor. Do you think if you were to clean it out you might be able to get spark? Was it all set right, the BTDC?
The bearing seems good Dean. No play at all that I can discern. I'm thinking that the oil seal might have been installed backwards, but I'm not sure. (Research required) The metal part of the seal was wavy, indicating that it was not installed straight; not sure if that showed on the video. What I found under the seal was some pitting in both the crank seal area and the aluminum case. Problem is you can't just go in with and abrasive and smooth it out because you would be getting abrasive grit in the bearing. I'm going to have to think/work on that. I'm considering using an old inner tube with a hole for the crank but haven't got that far yet.
