Great video. I'm going with the DTNVS as well. As soon as my kidney sells, I'll order them. In the meantime, my dual PVS-14's in a Wilcox bridge will have to get me by.
Dual 14's MO BETTA in every respect except one. Somewhat heavier. For me the advantages gained by dual 14's is far more important than the additional weight.
@@wherenowhow6037 I totally agree. Thats why I went with dual 14's in a Wilcox bridge. For the money the modularity and advantages can't be beat. It's really only a few ounces heavier than 31's and DTNVS.
@@KineticConsulting he said a few of them were taught by contractors from Crane. Those who were taught now teach their new soldiers. We both assume the contractors were L3 personnel
Laser surgery is probably cheaper than the 31s. I got it in 2001 and it was $1000 for both eyes. My vision has declined slightly but most importantly it got me through an almost two year deployment, most of that time in Iraq, and 15 years in my current field without having to worry about glasses or contacts.
I love my DTNVS, but my PVS31s have a clearer image. My DTNVS have a fantastic image don’t get me wrong but both housing have 2600/2700 fom tubes, all specs are very similar but the 31s just have a more polished image and they are getting close in price. I’ve seen 31s sell for $12,500 and $13,000 seems to be normal. Yes DTNVS can sell for $10,000 but you aren’t getting comparable tubes. If your getting the 24UA with minimum fom of 2400 your paying $11,000 to $12,000. Some websites will let you choose your tubes and that’s where you can save the most money. Cause you can find 18um tubes for $10,000 and be able to choose specs and find a 2800 fom no blem tube from a 18um batch.
I’ve got 1531s and DTNVSs. Personally I think 1531s are a no brainer over 31s. Wait time on repairs is quicker than 31s since they are using 14 tubes. Also adjustable diopters like the DTNVS. Basically all the benefits of 31s with less cons. So if you are looking keep 1531s in mind. Especially if you live in areas where it gets snowy. Manual gain in a snowy area with a full moon is pretty nice to have.
@@KineticConsulting People posted some pics of zone 2 Blems in 31s that would bug me for the price. When your talking about 2376 min fom tubes cosmetics come into play for me. I can’t tell the difference between a 35 SNR and 38 for example, so at that level cosmetics come into play. Plus when you order from TNVC you can hand select basically a 2376 Fom tube and be assured of no blemishes and a killer halo and ebi. That why I went with the dtnvs it’s the tubes man!
@@NoQuarters yup have two sets of 31's. They definitely have small blems sub .003 I think but visible to the eye, 1 set has 2 in zone 3 in left 0 in right. The other has 2 in zone 3 and 1 in zone 2 on left and 1 in zone 3 on right. Both are solid specs and visually nice. I kept them because I use them all the time and didn't want to wait for anything else. Just my experience and thoughts. You definitely have a choice that there probably isn't an objective answer that anyone can give but you. Just my opinion
@ Kinetic Consulting Good breakdown Jon, have you done any videos on the RNVG? Looking for something that’s as close to Marine Grunt proof as possible. 🖍
Why wouldn’t you go with BNVD-1531’s? Manual gain, battery plug on the rear, diopters, and similar weight. Am I missing something negative about 1531’s?
Do you find that you use the articulating feature much, or should I spend the money on better tubes on a solid mount? It seems that the articulating feature is best for stowing or in and out of vehicles. Thanks
Good stuff. I’m probably going to put my DTNVS order in soon. Very good in depth information for us trying to decide between the two. I break things, I imagine sending 31’s to L3 would be like trying to send a suppressor to AAC to get fixed 😂
Have you noticed any appreciable difference between pvs31a and dtnvs glass clarity? I had the chance to look through someone's 31s recently and it felt crisper than a similar tube in a 14 housing and optics.
Hey Jon, a little advice or suggestion for a video? I am wondering about back up iron sights. given a standard RIGHT HAND set-up of atpial, surefire scout, EOtech on the Unity Fast Riser, how would someone run backup irons? can’t see standard irons through the Eotech due to riser height. does one put their light on the left hand side and then use offset irons? any solutions for this?
Do you think the Pvs 31's will always be better image quality than DTNVS's? Will I really see the difference in 31's if I have a set of high spec DTNVS's with over 2600 FOM, 72 res unfilmed L3, SNR 37/36.6, EBI less than 1.0, HAlo .7, PC 2595/2516? Thanks
Luke, make sure you change the Interface shoe with the Wilcox one. It's like 36 dollars and needed to prevent shake with Wilcox G-24 or similar. The manual gain is sweet IMO. Enjoy them and by the time you wanna change them out can sell and buy something. else. DTNVS definitely looks solid and a great purchase.
@@lukeflaugher5334 it all depends on the person, in my opinion make sure helmet has aluminum Wilcox or other mount also. It still all won't be perfect but it will be darn near no movement. His NERD elastic band is excellent and will add stability also! The quality on the PVS-31A'S are solid not perfect but solid.q
Ahh, the more I try to learn, the more confused I get. So, is there a night vision goggle that has the ability to run a battery pack, has adjustable diopters, has pupillary stops, AND has manual and auto gain?
@Erozpl01 01 Nice man, thats whats up! I checked out Kosher Supply yesterday as soon as I saw your comment. Seems legit, I like how you can pick out exactly which tubes you want based on what they have, and they provide all the specs up front on the site. Did you purchase your original pair of DTNVSs through them?
@Erozpl01 01 Ohh nice! Machine gun shoots are THE BEST!!!! But awesome to hear you like your new goggles, I'm pumped for you man! Love hearing your feedback too, especially regarding the manual gain. I've read so many people saying its unnecessary, but I feel like I'd rather have it than not. With your DTNVS and your new BVND-1531, do these units shut off the individual tubes when you articulate them or stow them?
most of you guys are lucky your paying around 10K for your DTNVS. I was born and raised in florida then moved to Canada. European dealers are selling A pair of Photonis 4G DTNVS at 28 000$. Had to get a loan :(
@@djeemetryphebe4303 bro that is fucking outrageous Canadians should have access to this stuff and ar 15s and ak 47 and everything else they want. Sorry bro.
I have astigmatism. I have been having issues recently focusing on fine details both near and far. Working with 31s. Independently, each tube and eye is crystal clear regardless of distance but I lose focus on fine details when using both the tubes in tandem. Has anyone experienced this issue? Any recommendations?
The kids are yours, your wife was put on this earth to serve you and your family, you are to stay on your path and report up to God. Buy the damn night vision...you'll be saving her ass with them if these spy balloons keep up
You look through 2 lenses, the glass matters and 31's have better glass, beyond that I'm not sure about any other advantage. I have heard about the flash bang protection feature on the 31's, but I'm not an expert on that.
alkaline vs lithium batteries I've got issued dual 14's and have always been using alkaline batteries since that's what the supply guy gives me. If I were to get my own lithium batteries will I notice a difference? Battery runtime aside, I change my batteries every other night or so since well I don't pay for them.
I need the community's advice/ opinion. I can't decide whether to get a new rifle and eotech (T97 gen 3) or upgrade my current rifle by adding an IR/VIS module to get night capabilities. I haven't been able to decide for over a month lol. The end cost would be almost the same for either option
You said the weight is not a factor and you said you only notice the difference in weight if the difference is over 10%. However, according to your logic, the weight difference is noticeable. The PVS-31A weighs 15.84 ounces and the DTNVS is 17.9, a 2.06 ounce difference. The DTNVS is about 11.5% heavier. Just saying, based on your logic, you should tell the difference.
13 years ago I wore PVS-7s without counterweight on a 3.5 lb helmet, you get used to it, now my helmet is 1.7 lbs and panos and a battery pack. I have it so much easier now and the weight is almost the same.
@@KineticConsulting NVinc sent me a set of DTNVS with 24UA tubes both at 2600ish FOM RPO objectives and Ether eyelenses for the same price as a set of PVS31As. With that set of tubes and lenses I have a very good value.
I had this question too. I think you’re going to get a similar answer though. Do you want to trade manual gain for the serviceability? That’s really all I can come up with. I ended up sticking with my DTNVS.
Bro..... Love the content but for the love of god please spend some noodle money on a good mic, you sound like you are in a tin can. Thank you for the info!
