I dunno: For years RU-vid didn't even support Stereo sound and down mixed to mono. This was mainly do to their much lower AAC bitrate. Then they decided to "take the ripples" out of it and go to higher bitrate. Essentially AAC only does a joint stereo and technically uses the same space. It's not unlike how FM broadcast Stereo over a single carrier (Quadrophonic back in the 1970 did the same thing). So they merely had to remove their settings in the encoder to allow the L -R subcarrier to be encoded too in the AAC encoder. Of course today, they support 1080, but still at a sub standard bitrate of AAC. I'm sure 2K and 4K are coming. Maybe, just maybe some day soon, they will at least allow 5.1 sound; however, it requires 2 more identical joint stereo sound tracks in the same container. Actually, I'd be in favor of them dumping AAC, at least for higher quality audio. AAC isn't the greatest, sure it has less distortion at lower bitrates, but has less detail than AC3 and the old MPEG (1 constant/average, 2 variable bitrates) Layer 3. Most call that an MP3, though technically there is no MPEG-3 or 4 for that matter (MPEG 4 is MPEG 2 part 7). Anyways, in the past it was both hard drive space and upload bandwidth, today neither of those really apply, at least to them. So, Maybe RU-vid may support 5.1 with a script to detect music from speech, to set to a higher bitrate; or, better codec like AC3 (If Dolby Labs will let them without making them pay a silly royalty every time someone played a video. That's why VCRs and DVD players never sent stereo to channel 3, Dolby Labs was wanting $1,000 bucks per encoder of their dynamic noise reduction used in the MTS audio patch. Now, some of the really old HiFi VCRs (mono) actually capture the subcarrier of the MTS broadcast, just like the color was, and that landed up being sent to the MTS turner and decoded! ...even the second audio program (SAP).) Well, in any event, we may turn on RU-vid one day and, voilà! 5.1 sounds with rich tones will start to fly out at us, but until then. RU-vid can be your source for stupid cat videos.
Thank you for giving us the download link and the file. This has helped me a lot. Of course not the youtube one, since I don't think youtube supports dts. But I downloaded it and could fix my speaker problem :-)
This works properly and correct. 6 discrete digital audio channels via Xbox One X HDMI to DTS decoder to speakers. Thank you for an actual useful video.
Funktioniert super. Mit einer App zum Lautstärke messen und diesem Video hab ich bei meiner Surround Anlage die Pegel eingestellt. Das Ergebnis kann sich hören lassen
Why my front channels display all the sound. On in movies and games all 6 channels work, and it's awesome! It's only me or it's something else with the browser?
Just download this file to check your system, gang. RU-vid is stereo only. I just used it to check out an android os (Fire TV) connected via toslink to an old DTS amp. Works great through the Kodi media player and includes a phase check to verify correct wiring. Good stuff!
Does not work for me. Everything is set up properly and works (Windows Speaker Test and Fallout 4 tested). But this is only 3.1 for me, rears do not work. (HDMI Output using NVIDIA Card --> Pioneer VSX-827 AV-Receiver --> 5x nuJubilee 40 + Canton AS 85.2 SC)
it's ONLY 5.1 when the video was uploaded via a 5.1 or 7.1 uncompressed MKV. MP4 and others don't support 5.1+ as to the reason if someone uploads a mp4 in 720 or higher, it's not true 5.1 at that point, but your AV receiver decoding it to 5.1+. Just like this video was uploaded as a 5.1 1080p 60fps MKV, which WILL play 5.1 or higher...
Just download the video and play it in VLC media player, it worked fine for me. On YT it does not work, even on BS player I did not get it to work, but on VLC it worked just fine.
When the surround speakers are supposed to be played, it's only the front speakers. When the "out of phase" part plays, it plays the surround speakers. The only time the surround speakers work is during the "out of phase" portion.
How can we hear the sounds of the mobile phones, pets (dogs & cats), dolphins, earthquakes, so on, come from the ground up in the movies? I think we should make the ground speakers for those sounds. 🔊 🔊 🔊
If you have Netflix, search TEST then select NETFLIX. The have 5.0 surround and 4k hdr test videos. RU-vid does not provide more than 2.0 stereo. This is the limits of HTML, not necessarily RU-vid.
The downloaded file audio track is encoded on DTS-HD so here are the settings that work for me: 1. TV must output dolby digital plus 2. TV must "allow passthrough" or set that setting to "auto or ON" 3. If you have a home theater, it has to be compatible with DTS-HD otherwise it wont be accurate.
after a bit of research I found out that youtube does not support 5.1. so search this software online, and download it, as I did. it does work, just not on youtube.
If you download it from RU-vid, it still won't work because RU-vid converts the video to it's shitty format or whatev, so it screws up the volume even when downloaded
RU-vid has full 5.1 audio support since 2012. The only requirement is that the filetype has to be suitable for this specific audiotype in order for RU-vid to play it.
+Force What's the difference though? If sound is coming out of the back of the speakers, it's good enough for me, lol. If I'm watching a lets play, and something is behind them ingame, I want to hear it just like they do
FOR EVERYONE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE AUDIO Read the description and download the file for the actual dts audio test file. You will need VLC player or some software that plays blue rays to open it. Youre welcome
downloaded the googledrive link video and For me left front, right front and center work perfectly but when it goes to right rear I also hear sound in the center speaker and the same for left rear.
Very helpful file to download. I have played it in my BD player and it allowed me to set speakers level more accurately for DTS master audio surround mode. Do you know where to download similar files for other surround modes?
Thanks. This video helped me to better understand the different modes of my home theather. But the subwoofer didn't emit any sounds. Maybe my Chromecast only supports 5.0 on RU-vid, not 5.1. 🤷🏻♂️
using optical from my onboard and it still comes out the soundbar instead of the speakers in back or the sub. at least i know its probably a driver issue now lol
Seems to only play in stereo mode on HTML5 player for Firefox... so when the front left is testing its also firing on the rear left... also for me to test with flash player I would have to revert back to it..
Does anyone know a way to make flash work with surround sound. My speakers with with everything that doesn't use flash to play. I even googled it and just kept telling me that the 5.1 doesn't work with flash because it uses stereo instead of surround.
i had laptop with dolby digital plus then i played this and surround sounds works. i still don't know is it just virtual sound or anything else probably, or is it just stereo sound that filling the 'surround sound' so that stereo sound 'can be' surround sound fakely. can anyone explain?
JordanTheMinecrafter - PC Gaming nigga quit saying youtube support surround when it doesnt. the only reason you hear surround bc you have simulated your surround speakers through your sound setting. RU-vid says stereo 5.1. That is still stereo regardless.
You idiots are supposed to follow the link and download the 5.1 audio version. The title and description indicate that theres a link to the 5.1 version...
I cant hear the subwoofer but the rest I can ... I unplugged the rest of the speakers and tested only the subwoofer with an mp3 and it works :) so this video does not support my subwoofer or what ?
Whether this works is highly dependent in hardware and software. For instance, the youtube app on my PS4 Pro connected over HDMI to my Onkyo receiver does not work in Bitstream or PCM mode. On the other hand, the RU-vid app on my Samsung TV sending the signal to the receiver over an optical cable works great. Oddly, although the receiver supports DTS-X it seems to be getting re-encoded, perhaps by the TV to Dolby Digital. This might be a limitation of optical.
Very true --- a lot can go wrong in the entire chain from InternetSource-StreamingService-App(browser/native-app)-HW(Mac-Windows-Sticks)-HDMI-EDID-glitches-finally-SoundSystem.
you must do this first 1. right click on the little speaker on the lower right hand side of your screen, 2. click on sound ( it should open a window called sound ) 3. click on the upper left Playback. 4. click on the one your trying to test so it becomes light blue . 5 click on configure on the lower left hand side . 6 click on 5.1 surround or any of them 7 .click test 8 . be happy :)
Tested on samsung 2017 4k tv with denon hdmi receiver and I can confirm its working, but instead of dts hd I get dolby digital 5.1 - not dolby digital plus though.
I'm using stereo (2.1) while listening to this. Shouldn't I still be able to hear all of the sounds? I can not hear anything when the LFE speaker plays. I don't know that much about sound so please enlighten me, anyone who can.
Silly Goose Just invert the cables from the back your amplifier. LOL If someone have cables inside the wall and speakers fixed on a bracket cannot move all the set up around.
does recent games support pure 5.1 sound like Netflix.. I can do it in Netflix on Windows APP but not the games.. have tried thousands and got nothing... anybody knows?
Thanks for this, couldn't find the 5.1 one anywhere else. The file confirmed that everything that comes out as 5.1 is using the damned *side* channels, rather than the rear channels. Why the shit. Why have you done this, software? Do you hate me so?
