DTS vs Dolby Digital: What's the Difference?

Dolby is more popular than dts .But Dts is best .

I have JVC theatre sound system THX approved, has The Dts surround. And the Dolby Digital. That I had it for nearly 20, and I could still call it new in comparison to “newer” sound systems. Its 5.1 But with the DTS on, It’s a Magic , like you’re surrounded by speakers all over the room. I enjoy watching the movies at home more then cinema because the Dts surround sound it is an amazing sound.

Great Explanation!!! Thank you!! I have a Vizio M51-H6 soundbar. Which can handle Dolby Atmos (doesnt have upfiring speakers), Dolby Digital, and DTS. From my testing while streaming it chooses Dolby Digital - Dolby Digital Plus. Now for gaming on Xbox One X if I choose DTS, I have noticed that DTS has more Bass in comparison to Dolby Digital to level it seems like as if it is boosting or faking the Bass. I am not sure if DTS bass is supposed to be like that or if it is boosting it. I only do gaming on the console would you recommend I should choose Dolby Digital or DTS? THANK YOU!!!

Thanks for this video. Please explain what codec my reciever is processing from my blueray player as im using an optic lead and thought I was getting the dts hd that was my only audio option on the disc? Thanks

Best thing about Dolby: Night mode with less Dynamic, so you can hear dialog well, like it used to be.. Does not work with DTS..

Dolby Digital has cleaner fade between speakers and is more clean sounding, DTS has a little bass boost and more sample rate speed,it also boosts rear speaker volume and has way less fade making the fade between speakers more noticable.

watching this video with DTS X: Ultra on my phone. it's better & more customisable than stock dolby fx which comes in most of smartphones these days.

I’d like to understand the recommendation to use DTS if you were forced to choose. Why would you choose the higher bitrate option if analysis has shown they are very close in audio quality? With bandwidth becoming an issue for cables today, latency as well; why wouldn’t you go for the more efficient lower bitrate version? Look at the lossless versions, if DTS has a bitrate of 24.5 and Dolby at 18 with the same audio quality, why would you choose DTS if Dolby was an option?

Thanks for this. My old banger JVC surround sound only does Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround. Netflix must be outputing Dolby Digital, as it sounds crap compared to a Blu Ray that I can get DTS Digital Surround, which sounds far more immersive. I will be upgrading soon to a Denon Amp so that I can get DTS-HD, I can’t wait as it should sound better than it already does.

i can't tell any difference in the sound quality between DTS and Dolby. I'm running a 35mm film setup. The nice thing about DTS is I can run foreign language films in english

DTS HD MASTER has very low dialogue levels, almost can't hear it and the surrounding is too loud

in gaming which one is better do you think, ? does it matter in competitive scene ?

I remux DTS HD to AC3 640. because Apple TV can not eat DTS.

DTS-HD MA tended have more dynamic then Dolby True HD 2006-10 but not case anymore.

Dts for videogames and dolby for movies

Not forgetting that both Dolby and DTS are compression formats, so harm sound quality. So you dont want either.
