The contrast between "boys will be boys" and "girls will be women" is powerful. To me it highlights how young girls are sexualized long before they become women. They're seen, physically, as women before they hit adulthood. And because they mature "faster," they're not only expected to be more mature than boys emotionally, but they're told to be ever so mindful of how they present themselves physically when they're around boys. Meanwhile "boys will be boys" at any age because that's just how they are; they just don't know any better.

My respect for her when I realized she was the artist that wrote this song 📈📈📈

This song is not about sexual violence. It's about how society excuses boys even when they should be held accountable. This results in girls actually growing up and becoming responsible for far more than they should be including their own safety while boys just don't. The song is not blaming the boys. It's blaming the people saying these things in the hearing of kids and not raising them right.

Ive heard Levitating on the radio at least fifty times. These two songs are by the same artist, so why cant this one be played just as often?

I was always scared of using this method of protection because I didnt want to physically hurt someone. My mom told me simply "your have a kind heart, but the people you would use this on are trying to hurt you, you are just getting to them first." I have had to use this method of protection twice, and a few of my lady friends have use it aswell...

As a man, I think this song is just the strongest message out there. Boys don’t get a free pass for everything, nor should they. I sent this song to my best friend who is a strong advocate of women’s rights and equality. It’s now on loop for her. As a boy with a twin sister I know how hard it can get for girls. I remember me and my sister playing in the playground together in school and my sister is the shy type so she would stick with me all the time but I had this boy I play with in class, this lad told my sister that she was growing breasts and he’s uncomfortable she’s hanging out with us. We were in year 6, of course she’d go through puberty. I told him it doesn’t matter because my sister was too surprised to talk then he said she shouldn’t be mad if I annoy her or touch her then this was a 12-13 year old’s words. He wasn’t educated enough to respect women and girl. that memory is stuck in my head until now even though he has told me he was just joking because it annoys me.

Everyone's heard that "boys will be boys" and I've gotten used to it but when she said "girls will be women" I realised just how fucked up that saying is. Society excuses the immaturity of boys but expects the girls to grow up and deal with it. Damn, this song is genius and needs to be heard by everyone.

I'm scrolling through so many top comments seeing people get attacked by men saying feminism is bad. I'm going to get attacked for the following but I don't even care anymore. Feminism isn't Women > men Its Women = men Feminism isn't a bad thing. I am in no way excusing women to silent men, that's just terrible. A true feminist will advocate for both mens and womens rights. A lot of people have also been saying its ridiculous that the song was made just about women. I'm not saying that men don't get sexually harassed or raped, it just happens more to women. This song was made to spread awareness about womens problems, it doesn't say mens problems don't exist. Its a bit like it someone makes a video educating people on cancer they don't get attacked because other people have heart disease and they should've included both. When people talk about the high rates of female sexual harassment and rape, they say men have it harder because the suicide rates are higher. We understand the suicide rates are higher, and that is a problem, but people don't then attack you saying 'but women also commit suicide'. In fact I've had many suicide attempts but I still support videos on mens suicide rates, mainly because I can understand the priority here. This is our point, sexual harassment doesn't only happen to women , but it happens more. The first time I've been sexually harassed I was 11, it was my uncle. Since then I've hadrandom guys try to hold my hands and etc. That's my reason for being scared of men. I saw someone comment that a 25 year old women ran away from the when they were 16, during the night. They called it ridiculous.may seem ridiculous 2 you but u don't know what that person have been through . I was 12 and it was my first time getting a train home from school by myself and a drunk middle aged man sat down right beside me and called me a pretty lady. When he said that I stood up and walked away whilst waited for the next stop and when the train stopped I got out, he followed me. I was running away from him but he kept following me so I darted around a corner and thankfully lost him. I ran to my house and quickly locked the door, I was home alone as well and was having a mini panic attack thinking about what would have happened if I didn’t run - I have never been so scared in my life. I was 12 when this happened and this man looked about 50, the men that harass young girls/ women and so sick! Rather than teaching girls how to cover up so we don’t get catcalled (etc) people need to teach men and boys how to respect women!! And I’m sorry if these things have happened to any of you beautiful, smart girls!

when i was 12 to 15, there was a construction going on near my house and it was right in front of the bus stop, so whenever i got out of the bus from school, i had to walk past the construction to get home, and it was a nightmare. i can’t count the times i got catcalled, grown men were saying horrible things to me as i walked by. once, one of them followed me home so they knew where i lived, which was terrifying. we reported them to the police and they didn’t do anything. at some point i even got used to it!!! i thought “well, this is gonna happen, it’s probably my school uniform, they’re men and it’s what they do”. i’m almost 21 now and i’m pissed at them for making my teenage self believe such thing. thank you dua for starting this conversation

The kids aren't alright. In fact, young girls, especially in my middle school, are always being sexually harrassed. My school counselor told me, "Well, boys will be boys. Sign this paper and tell me everything that happened." I didn't realize the ignorance until weeks later. I wasn't given the comfort I needed. Nobody told me, "I believe in you, you can get through this.", or, "I'm sorry this happened to you." This frustrates me that boys are given excuses for this stuff because of standards.
