Ikr. The choreographer should create choreo that looks nice and is comfortable for the performer who in this case is Dua Lipa. Cuz she clearly ain’t looking comfortable with this choreo.

Maybe it’s not that she doesn’t have “stage presence” but she’s not a dancer, she probably just doesn’t know how to control her breath while dancing and it’s not an easy thing to learn. Remember, she’s a SINGER, and being a singer doesn’t automatically make you a performer and I think she’s just trying to improve little by little. It’s just an opinion, the video is actually pretty funny tho.
Agreeed! It requires a serious concentration and proper application of technique. Maybe that's why she wasn't comfortable with moving so much. But she's learning now, and I'm sure she's improving. Breath support isn't so easy. That's why not everyone can pull off 'rock' genre
many singers are not dancers either and they still show they can control the stage (taylor swift, ariana, katy are also not great dancers but they have great stage presence), dua lipa problem imo was confidence nerves and maybe even lack of practice, she looked scare on stage. But she improve so much, Im happy for her
now that I think about it the choreography may also be a problem, if you are seeing your artist struggle to sell the song you modify it a bit, hell make the backup dancers do the crazy moves and she doing the iconic, poses but again, confidence will be key to make her stand out more

but she is really a sweet person she came to my country for vacation i work as a part time waitress and i saw her i was so excited but i was too shy to ask for a photo as she was with her bf . after i told her i was a big fan she smiled and said thank you and did't hesitated to take a photo she also tipped me a good amount so yeah it was a good day Edit: yes I know it has nothing to do with this video I just said it cuz I saw a lot of mean comments saying that she is a shitty person too, Edit 2: for those who are asking where I met , I am from India and she came here for a trip and she stayed at this resort where I was working part time at the time( this happened in 2018 and I don't work there anymore)
That was really sweet of her....And she has improved alot too as well...I saw some of her freestyle bops and she enjoys that and looks alot more comfortable. It's obvious dance wasn't her thing back then but she has to learn ... because people aren't satisfied with musicians just standing and singing

Nop, everything is the same, no one cares your gender, it's normally bc they are in front and look attractive while the rest is in the background, here she is part of the background, but she is better now so it doesn't matter

The best part of being an artist is that you can be better and bigger everyday. Dua Lipa was good in her early days, she just lacked some dance training and stage presence. Because even so, she still faced the audience and sang live, something that few artists dare to do.
In 2021, we cannot say the same thing. Her evolution has been INSANE! The confidence grew, the moves got better, she has never looked sexier... her 2021 Grammy performance was FABULOUS

She should just put her damn foot down, and tell them to just let her stand and sing. Damn and let the backup dancers do their thing. She can do certain moves, but just mostly sing....its obvio she cant do both. She has a lovely voice and can be stronger live if she didnt have to dance.

If she were to stand and just move subtlety she can keep more of her breathing in check and sing much better, because some of her notes sound very good It would be nice to hear her sing a more relaxed song that focuses more on her vocals tho, to truly see how far it can go....
RottedDollFace I actually agree. Before they rammed her down everyone's throat like she's the next Madonna she actually had some pretty decent, simple and really okay performances with her band. But that's just not how her music is anymore so she can't have performances like that any longer

Because literally no one could look good doing this. The reason they look bad is because of bad choreography, and while she does have that it's about stage presence. Backup dancers in the most unoffensive way are decoration. I'm a dancer but on the side I do backup dancing for different productions, and being a backup dancer in a musical and in a concert are two different things. The backup dancers in concerts not saying they shouldn't have but I'm saying they don't need stage presence whereas in a musical like let's say Hamilton or Les Mis you would need a lot of emotion as a backup dancer
You can't choreograph for someone with zero skill, energy, effort, coordination, etc. This is hardly the choreographers fault. They gave her all she could do
She dances like how normal, non-dancer people dance at clubs... It's just that she's at the stage with spot lights while performing and no other people obscuring her that's why we find it awkward haha

female artists are definitely expected to do more and are more highly critiscised. but tbf the reason dua was so heavily made fun of was because she acted so strange. if you choose to dance and perform, it IS the bare minimum to be good at it. not to be sloppy and look like you don't want to be there. male artists need improvement but the most popular ones still give better performances than the ones dua did here.

I agree. Just because someone can sing doesn't mean they have an affinity to dancing, and I'm honestly getting tired of people expecting singers to also be good at dancing. Some might have dancing skills, but just don't want to dance during live shows and some might outright rather spend their time practising songs than training dances. Because practising something that doesn't come natural to you can be a waste of time if it isn't something you like, or a necessity. And it isn't a necessity, because a good performance can consist of many things, it doesn't have to be the singer dancing around on a stage. Performing doesn't equal dancing.
