I’d love for you to add comparison with other popular subs you’ve reviewed so we can have a better idea of where everything stands. This will help in deciding which would better suit one’s idea of the sub they should consider keeping budget and performance in mind.
Interstellar definitely has the best Bass "Scary" or violent rumbling bass hear in the whole house type. I liked the Rocket take off scene as well as the Black Hole scene. Blade Runner 2049 a good quality subwoofer movie then Edge of Tomorrow and Godzilla (2014) the Whole movie is good not just 1 scene.
Good to see you back to doing sub reviews. Looks like an awesome space. I maintain good, sealed subs going strong down to 20 Hz is the ideal solution for most people in most rooms, and even if these are pricey for that, they get the job done
Amazing review as always! Sounds like you like those R210 more than the other models. However, I'd like to know which would do better in movies and music between the R18 and the R210. Also, how does the R18 stack up against the rythmik F18?
Godzilla and Godzilla vs Kong has the real deep bass for Subwoofers. Edge of Tomorrow and Blade Runner only a few scenes not a whole movie bass type. Monster Hunter is nice. I would still get a custom made box from a good quality Car Audio shop tell them to use 1" MDF and reinforced sides, then buy Stereo Integrity 18 or 24" and buy their amp to put on the box.

Interesting.... If I can recall you owned 2 Rythmik F18s and you said they were tbe most accurate in your cinema as well as the size. How do they stand up against the R18s? 🤔

So Shane, with an Anthem AVM 90, do I want four D12s or four D212s?? Never mind the D15s or D215s. Or this monster 18 inch sub… when is enough enough, I have smaller rooms and I rent apartments lol. Any advantage to the dual subs anyway? Is the S series subs significantly better in anyway than the R series? I want to match with S5T towers or S4B bookshelf speakers. Or perhaps Focal Sopra N°1 or B&W 805 D4 or KEF Reference 1 Meta speakers.

After examining the comprehensive review of the SB16 by James from Audioholics and comparing it with the published specifications of Perlisten, my preference leans towards the SB16. The level of detail available for Perlisten doesn’t match up. I’m skeptical about the return on investment being substantial enough to justify a switch. In a spacious open layout, room gain is typically less pronounced. This is where the addition of more drivers, larger drivers such as 21 and 24 inches, or opting for ported designs can make a significant difference.
@@bigjack79 that’s an interesting perspective. I like that objective opinion, which leans in favor of my wallet lol. But you seem to understand the reason for the question - in that large space will 18’s be noticeably more improved than 15’s?? We’ll see, still constantly tweaking and optimizing.
@@HiFinest343 Audioholics has a video called “Best $2-3k Sealed Subwoofers Shoot Out! Which One Will You Pick?” You can see a comparison there between the svs sb16 and jtr 18. The JTR is a class leading subwoofer. It’s performance is mostly likely greater than the perlisten but you can see the difference an 18 would make. IMO, the 18 would be better. It’s just not worth 10k for 2 to me. But the JTR at its price point would be good. Of course, your mileage may vary with aesthetics.
Marginal upgrade at best. Open concept screams for ported. My room is also open concept and trust me, you will notice a massive difference if you go ported.

@@therealshanelee I have never heard the perlisten so I can’t comment on sound. I imagine quality is similar but the RS1 is much cheaper and way uglier lol.
Quality of bass is likely on par. The RS1 will no doubt play louder and dig deeper. That JTR driver is on another level. Looks are subjective. I actually prefer the more rugged look of the RS1. I’m not a fan of the Perlisten styling personally.🤷♂️
@@brucecarter6205 I have minor issue with JTR’s looks more than the style itself. Simple things like the glue not being super even on the dust cap (big blob). Having the power cord packed and shipped tapped to the woofer inside bubble wrap is not my favorite. The power cord scuffed the gloss on the dust cap of my RS1s and left residue on the driver itself. The beauty ring looks like it only fits so so. All in all a good product and I tuck my front subs behind my screen anyway. I would buy from JTR again.
@@JamesWilliams-gf8gmfair enough. My JTR’s are not perfect cosmetically either, but still very good overall. At the end of the day, performance is king and this is where JTR dominates.
Thank you for the great review. Happy to see a matte black finish. Love seeing the excursion from these. I really like how you can control the settings with an app on these subs. I know THX doesn’t mean much to some but I still regard the rigorous standards that must be satisfied in order to be granted the designation. Of course that comes at a price. Happy to see you use Fury for TR. it’s my go to as well. I’m not surprised by your assessment of how a single 18 would compare with dual 15s.
Yeah I finally picked up Fury and from the opening scene the quality of the audio mix was impressive. Shane has been using it as reference demo material for years but it’s definitely on my demo list.
I almost forgot about the bass in the Interstellar wormhole scene. I bet that was pretty sweet. If you still have them you should queue up Godzilla: King of the Monsters to give your neighbor an absolute panic attack!
The rumble filter has to be turned on or you'll blow the F18. It also limits extension at higher spl. The R18 digs deeper and plays louder plus has better processing and DSP. Build is a lot better as well. F18's are great for the price but you get what you pay for.
@@BoyceTheChoiceYou’re probably right!! I think the F18 would hit harder but then i’m thinking the quality of the bass of the perlisten is far superior.
The tech sheet looks…good. I have no doubt this is a great sub. The price is so high though. This is where, if you’re mildly handy and have some patience, DIY would be way cheaper and just as, if not, produce better results. An eminence driver or Stereo integrity in any of the GSG sealed cabs with a nice external speaker power amp. For this price, you could buy 4x SQL 15” SI drivers, 4x GSG cabs and an amp and load four corners for incredible seat to seat. You’d likely get well below 20 hz in room at very high spl. Choose carefully yall.
If money was no object I's have to chose a pair of the dual push pull 15's. After having experienced 3 of the older smaller 12inch versions by way of them being MX-150's after getting used to the way these sound it is difficult to go back to anything else. The only thing I would like to do is make them into 4 mx150's and 3-4 times more output. But I suppose thats what the new m&k's and the Perlistens do. But sadly for now those are way out of my price range. I am loving the equipment of yesteryear from richie rich though. If the freight market changes than so may my budget. but till than I'm just saving and waiting for my 4th mx150 or a 350. These 18's seem sweet, but I am hooked and saving for the push pull.
Hi Shane. 🙂 I heard the dual 15" at a hifishow, two of them in a tiny hotelroom. yep.....solid overkill, but fun 🤪 For a long time, my planed upgrade for subs, has been the Rytmik F18, and two F18´s are less than a single R18. My gues is that 4 F18´s is better than dual R18´s???? What do you think sir?
As a new rythmik owner, and having heard a perlisten sub (D215), both are very well braced so nearly unnoticable resonance which is great; will show you every loose item within ear shot lol. But depending on the size of your room, and what you use for bass management, the app could come in very handy. As far as the price difference for two different 1000 watt subwoofers, comes down to if you think the app and design of box are worth twice the price.
@@guitardude1323 I use MiniDSP to control my subs, so the app is not something I would need. I have not heard the F18, but all research I have done, have pointed me to just that sub😊
Also using the mini dsp myself, makes it much easier to tune, though the built in apps do come in useful otherwise. I opted for the 15” myself, but the 18” sounds like an absolute monster. Though you may sacrifice a touch of tightness for music, it’ll move a lot of air for being sealed subs. Would highly recommend either
@@guitardude1323 I am sure the 15" is absolutly superb too, as all Rythmik subs are (from what I have researched). How many subs do you have? I plan to have dual SVS SB100 Pro (I like how they sound, and when 18 of them is planed, price do matter 😆), as foundation for each earlevel speaker, so the F18´s will be LFE only. 🙂
I use two subs in my bedroom sized townhouse living room, one being the rythimik and I was just given a 15" paradigm, so I set that up alongside for fun lol. Can't say I'm much of a fan of the lower models of svs sub, but if you're just using them as bass extension for your base speakers then I can't fault that, they do have some low end grunt in small spaces.
