first, a clarification about this weapon. this is a single weapon that occupies both hands, like skoll and hati knife, or krom sword. that means it is a 2-handed axe, not 2 individual axes. despite being represented by a single axe in each hand, it is not actually "dual wielding," because you cannot separate the weapons or otherwise mix and match with other weapons.
with that out of the way, some observations:
pros:
1. high on-paper dps, if you can actually finish the full primary combo. the combo is very long, 1-1-1-1-2-2. could be good against the boss if you can get deep into the combo.
2. the first two primaries are very fast, can easily get in after parries during short stagger windows, like morgen.
3. high speed attacks mean more lightning triggers.
4. reduced stamina cost (14 vs the usual 16 for mistlands and ashlands).
cons:
1. long refractory period after attacking before you are eligible to make a defensive move, like a roll. this is very much an "all gas, no brakes" weapon. compared to skoll and hati, this weapon feels sluggish and unresponsive when trying to rotate between attacking and defending.
2. ultimately just a lightning delivery system. the base weapon is mediocre and has poor stagger options, both from attacking or parrying. it chews up any lone zero star enemies, but cant comfortably handle tougher melee, not even a 1-star warrior (8:24), or side-by-side zero-star warriors (3:26), both of which are very common. getting back-to-back lightning triggers on zero star cave morgens makes for a cool one-cycle re-dizzy kills, but valheim isnt about how quickly you take out the trash, its about how safely and consistently you deal with the problems, like mixed groups and stars. this is a front-running weapon that looks good when things are going well, but cannot dig you out of a hole.
3. as an axe, it can sometimes get into a nearby tree and convert to "chop" animation, which greatly lowers dps and breaks your primary combo against the intended mob. there are trees, including downed trees and stumps, all over the place in ashlands. you can see this occur at 40:05.
4. secondary leap attack is largely pointless, better off just sprinting and jumping to close distance in most cases, or just walking the enemy down. fun factor and variety only, no real practical need for this attack. a handful of photogenic takedowns of zero star archers doesn't mean this attack is worth anything.
5. most players probably have low axe skill because, in typical valheim fashion, the devs introduced a new base really late in the game with no preamble to warm you up.
6. already a lot of other slash-based weapons: dyrnwyn, nidhogg, slayer, mistwalker, even silver sword.
other thoughts:
i remain confused as to the weapon direction in this biome. including the dyrnwyn "secret" weapon, the devs added 4 slash-based weapons to this biome: 3 swords and the dual axes. no knife, no polearm, and we havent seen a battle axe or fist weapon since the mountains. i feel like the 2 handed sword, and now the dual axes, mean the devs are basically giving up on the battle axe, which was the original 2-handed slash weapon. id rather see them overhaul the battle axe to make it suck less and back-fill it into more biomes.
you can think of this weapon as an alternative to the slayer sword, which is more focused on delivering the big secondary thrust, whereas this weapon is about high frequency attacks and lightning procs. both are unpleasant to use against enemies you cannot parry, and you cannot parry advanced threats without a shield.

one niche i've found for the secondary leap attack is to pair it with the feather cape to launch yourself from high ground into a lengthy glide. I've used it to escape mobs after luring them up the stone hills around the ashlands, since the horizontal momentum is much faster than a regular jump->glide. Skoll and Hati's leap attack can also do this to a lesser extent but the lunge seems to slow the momentum more than the axes do.

I totally agree with your assessments. I was hoping for more of something special with these weapons, but since slash is an almost useless attribute in this new biome, I'll be sticking to my blunt and lightning weapons, until I can merge both. Shield and mace look the best for my playstyle. It's too bad they haven't made an Ashlands buckler or dual knives, as the Skjoll and Hati are my go-to in the Mists.

yes, shield and shock mace are basically meta in this biome in my opinion. can handle all enemies, including stars.

Is anything weak against blunt in ashlands? I don't remember anything giving yellow numbers for blunt attacks of my amber staff

@@pimbiezogman2312 So far nothing is weak against blunt, but it's potent in all other biomes, and so far, stronger than Slash and Pierce damage. The only weaknesses I see are from Spirit damage and Lightning damage. Therefore, Frostner is a good choice for first entry, as it mixes Blunt/Spirit/Frost damage, and can be used with a shield.

In keeping with the berserker theme, I think this weapon wants you to just facetank the enemy while doing your full buzzsaw combo. There's a weirdly long delay if you chose to stop the combo to dodge/block, it got me slapped by morgens many times... I think it's excellent in co-op play if you have a bubble support/viner/just some body to take aggro while you flank.

i have a video on that coming out. my pole skill is low, so it isnt a great test. its bad against most enemies but its pretty good against the asksvin lizards. it would be nice if they let himmin get the new lightning enchantment.

They are a downgrade from skoll for sure, i usually play fenrir hit and run, and i cant with these axes.

there's definitely something going on with the delay after you attack and before you can roll or block. its slower than basically any other weapon.

yellow 225's against morgen are a combination of stagger plus lightning damage. stagger is 2x and he is weak to lightning 1.5x. the lightning can also re-chain to itself, sometimes. not sure if that is a bug or intentional, or why it happens only some of the time. you can re-dizzy a zero star morgen fairly easily with dual lightning axes.
