Hey Jamaican diaspora family! Check out the written blog post with links to applications and etc for more detailed info. Good luck on this journey!🇯🇲📄 italeatsandtreats.com/dual-citizenship-for-jamaica-citizenship-by-descent/
Doing it abroad at any Jamaican consulate is easier. One would fill out the application on line. Print it and if requires notary public to sign you get that done. They take the 2 photos at the consulate. They check your documents at the consulate and they mail it to Jamaica. It's safer as they use the their courier. If the birthcerticate is unreadable you apply online for a new one using the information on the old one. It comes back in a week. It doesn't take long to get immigration papers or certificates abroad
lol, doing it in Jamaica literally took me two weeks and no stress and was cheaper than anything abroad, I’ve had people tell me they’ve been waiting for over one YEAR for their papers abroad and they wish they never did it abroad and just went to Jamaica. So no, doing it abroad is not easier, just because it was for you doesn’t mean it was that way for everyone. Majority of the feedback I’ve received of people doing it abroad has been pure horror stories.
@@italeatsandtreats They probaby did not fill out the forms properly. The key is to get all the certificates and fill out the forms properly without errors. It states on the forms any errors they have to start a new form . Preferable typing in the information and not writing it in. I renewed my passport and applied for citizendhip for my niece using her mom's birth certificate and the turn around was quick.
Hey, great video! I just wanted to add that as far as CARICOM is concerned, all CARICOM nationals are entitled to an automatic six month stay in other CARICOM countries. As far as working, you need what is called the CSME skills certificate. However (and this is pretty exciting) as of 3/31/2024 CARICOM nations (Grenada, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Kitts & Nevis, Guyana, Suriname, Belize, Barbados, Trinidad, etc.) will be transitioning to the free movement of people, going beyond the current six month regime. You will be able to live and work in those other nations long term without needing a visa or skills certificate. I don’t think everything will just be opened up on March 31, but there will be a period of transition to allow this new regime to take place. Anyways, all the best!
@@italeatsandtreats You’re welcome! I was born in the U.S like you, but both of my parents were born and raised in Jamaica. I applied for citizenship at the consulate in NYC on January 10th.
@@mryardiedescendantI have a question cause my appointment is coming up at the end of April and I have all of my paperwork both parent’s birth certificate (even though I only need one) mine as well and passport photos taken at cvs. My question is would I need to get those photo’s notarized as well as the other documents or do they do that at the consulate? Thank you in advance for your help!
That is the main goal, purchasing land!!! My family has land in Ochi and I want to look into acquiring some but speak with my uncle it’s a lot of legalities. I’m looking to create a sustainable lifestyle that allows me the freedom I desire. Anyway this was a great video, thank you soo much for sharing!
Definitely have to support. Liked and Subscribed. So happy to happen upon this. My daughter has been wanting to become a Jamaican citizen using my credentials. My son wants to invest in real estate. This is so fitting. Definitely given us what we need so we can stop procrastinating and get things done. I already forwarded this video to them and I have also printed off the application to renew my Jamaican passport which expired many moons ago. And it is true, that having the island's passport gets you through the airport sooooooo quickly and hassle free. With my USA passport I had to go through .....ummm too much
Thank you so much! And yes your children can certainly do it easily through you! And I feel you on the airport situation, the borderline harassment traveling to ja at immigration with an American passport made me cry one time 😂😂
@@italeatsandtreats I am thankful for those tears because it is that experience why I am now grateful to find your work. Onward and Upwards always my child. Much blessings always.
Applying from the uk/usa/canada/Germany Jamaican consulate is easier but more expensive and longer. You take all your documents there and they will do all the photocopies and you will get your docs back straight away. The consulate sign your photos. Go to a photo store prior to the consulate appointment and state that you need a jamaican passport photo and they'll sort you out (or tell them the specs from pica). Also, you need to have official id (passports) for you and both birth certificates for you and your Jamaican parent (including jamaican grandparent if your parent isn't jamaican) to show lineage. There's also deedpolls if there have been some non-marriage name changes, but im not clued up on that. It takes ages from appointment, but pica are on the case with updates if you email them.
Thank you so much for this video. I was born in Jamaica and came to America real young. I gave up my Jamaican passport when I became an American citizen. I am now on my journey to getting my Jamaican Passport and citizenship. Thank you for the breakdown
You are welcome! To clarify, you are still a citizen because you never went through the process of denouncing your legal status. You can skip the first process and re-apply for your passport!
I went to the Miami consulate to apply for citizenship and got it back in 4 months, right around the time they said it would take. The process wasn’t too bad, but like you my mother’s birth certificate was too old and they tried to turn me away but I was firm😂 would’ve used my father’s but he didn’t know where his was. For me, it was important to obtain. I want my future kids to be able to have it as well
My Ethnicity is Also Jamaican 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲Born From Both biological Jamaican Parents. But I’m Born in Canada🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦. Can you help me get my citizenship and passport for Jamaica 🇯🇲 ?
Thanks for this video! I will be in a jamaica for only 4 days can I start the process there and finish from back home? Because I see u keep saying 15days lol
You’re welcome! So if you only have 4 days you can start the citizenship process for 15 days processing ir 30 days and they can ship it to your house in foreign
Here from IG jilust want to see if I could get more information and how to gwt jamaican passport for my 3yrs old brazilian son. Since there is no jamaican embassy here in Brazil anymore since 2021 they all close down. Which I find very stupid🤨
Hello! That’s so weird there’s no Jamaican embassy in Brazil. I would say to try and call the immigration office in Jamaica, go to the nearest country with a Jamaican embassy (maybe Guyana or Colombia?) or just go to Kingston JA and they can process his citizenship there
There is no more. I called the office and I was told its not there anymore. I dont know why they are closing them all down. Maybe because not a lot of Jamaicans going to Brazil to live
Hello, I have a Jamaican grandfather who was born in Jamaica. I don’t have his birth certificate, is there a way that I can order an official certified copy of his birth certificate from the Jamaican government? He died in the US as a US citizen so I don’t think his death certificate would work.
My mum’s last name was changed at adoption and she changed it back to her Family name (never married and half Jamaican) I have taken my Dads last name which remains the same. Do you know what I need for this type of case? Or can I use grandparents details instead?
Feel free to use your grandparents details! With your mom you may need to get her adoption papers although if she was born in Jamaica it wouldn’t be a problem. It your grandparents are the ones born in Jamaica you would need to use their details regardless
If I visit Jamaica. Do I have time go back to Kingston to pick to up? Can someone else pick it up like my parents? I won't be there for 2 weeks to wait and drive back to Kingston. Please reply. Thanks
Heyyy, my parents were never married. And my mom has a different last name. Would it be hard to use my mom? If I don’t feel like reaching out to my dad.
If you get the passport/citizenship processed in Jamaica, do you know if you have to retrieve it yourself when it's ready or can you just have someone else pick it up? Or can the JM passport office send it to you?
Hey! So if you go to Jamaica to file for citizenship you can have it shipped to your house abroad for sure. I’m not too sure about the passport though I can imagine they would do that
Both my parents were born in England and so was I. My maternal grandma is a born and bred Jamaican. Am I still able to apply? Do I have to wait for my mother to receive citizenship first before I can? My mother's maiden name is that of her father, who is not Jamaican. How do I go about creating a link between my mother and her mother?
@@italeatsandtreats thank you so much!! My mum and siblings are getting all the documents ready to send off in the next few days! I know it shouldn't matter, but it honestly feels so gratifying to know that I can receive citizenship since I've always been told when visiting my Jamaican family that I'm not a "real Jamaican". Even though I've literally been raised in a Jamaican household with Jamaican customs my entire life.
Heyy, do you know if my father’s Jamaican Birth Registration form works in place of his Jamaican Birth Certificate ? He can’t find the Birth Certificate
Eventhough you are speaking English, I can still hear the strong Jamaican accent, it's so strange seeing that you were born in America, strange but interesting😂
lol my parents and I speak patwa at home and I visit Jamaica a lot! It’s kinda like when I hear a slight accent from someone who’s parents are from Mexico but they were born and raised in the USA but they speak Spanish at home with their family, that’s like me but with patwa!
@@BkAphroditeno, use the Passport to enter the specific country that you're entering. DO NOT USE JA PASSPORT TO ENTER USA OR USA PASSPORT TO ENTER JAMAICA. It will register limits on your stay.
Why would you need your parent’s passport to prove they are a Jamaican citizen if you have their birth certificate showing they were born in Jamaica? What if they don’t live in Jamaica anymore and don’t have any passport? What if they have already died? Even if a passport was available, it would not be safe to mail their passport to Jamaica with the application.
@@italeatsandtreats It looks like the requirement for the parent’s passport is just for minors. Adults applying for citizenship by descent don’t need their parent’s passport.
The Jamaican embassy site says: • Valid driver’s license or passport of mother or father (minors only) • A valid government issued ID (valid driver’s license or passport - adults only)
Holy sh* it’s been a year?! This is why I recommend people to do in Jamaica IF they have time off from work. Mine took 2 weeks in Jamaica but I think it was ready after a few days.
@@italeatsandtreats Yep a year. I've called the consulate many times and their customer service is horrible. I tried called PICA, but kept getting hung up on. I was ready fight for my money back and give up, but I now have hope.
@@dongordito00 I saw your Google Review, sorry to hear about the long wait. The staff was really nice when I went there, but communication needs work. It took 4 months (and 10 days) to get everything, but I was mainly in touch with PICA for most of the process rather than the consulate. The consulate (almost) never picks up the phone. I hope it’s not an issue of them needing “more information” or additional documents because if that’s the case, they don’t relay that information to you in a timely manner which slows down the processing time. Summer is quickly approaching so I really hope you get a response soon. Good luck and please update!
Hey Tiffany did you delete your old RU-vid travel and pan afrikan channel? Will you travel back to Afrika again? And will you post videos on for the ancestors channel?
Hello! I’m now a food blogger and have been focusing on short form content for the past year and a half and built a healthy platform on my website and Instagram @italeatsandtreats and now I am prioritizing bringing that same healing content to other platforms like RU-vid, TikTok, and Pinterest ☺️
@@Malkiyahamanimwangazaactually, yeah! Just spent 2 months in Colombia and Guatemala and got intermediate in Spanish, will start learning Portuguese next

No, you cannot. You'll need to apply for their birth certificate. Death cert means nothing. Just take all documents to a jamaican consulate, they'll photocopy everything.
@@shashbabydesta9379I went to get the original forms (birth & death) printed at The Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. $15 for each printed document +$2.75 processing fee, $3 for each document to be authenticated at county clerk, $10 for each document for Issuance of Apostille of Certificate and Authentication. (NYC) Check with your state if different.
