I love your videos. Pro-tip on the setting epoxy anchors with the pricey hilti stuff. Inside of the bag with the tubes is a straw, attach that to the end of the nozzle and then insert it all the way into the bottom of the hole. Then squeeze and retract slightly. Rinse and repeat until the hole is filled. That air popping sound when inserting the all thread is indicative of voids. Inspectors around here listen for the popping sound and promptly fail it. Also helps with the mess.
interesting thanks man i wondered what those are for......its funny i worked for several different companies that used that stuff and thats where I learned and no one ever did that but makes alot of sense. Im not a pro at anything really just trying to learn like the next guy. Thanks
Hah! Yeah I felt a little pretentious writing pro-tip. Ive set thousands of anchors and I just recently learned the straw thing too. I always assumed it was for the blower which was irritating cause it’s too short. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and appreciate the channel.

Just going through your older videos to learn stuff and pick up tips because I'm on the same path you've taken and as much as I love the epic handrails you build its videos like this that are just as important, i fab some pretty cool stuff in the shop but welding and installing to the print seems to be where the money is currently. Keep up the good content my friend it really is helping some of us out here.

Cut the all thread at a 45 angle and that eliminates plunger effect and keeps more epoxy in the hole. Like your style and additional info you provided on dual shield flux core. Subscribed !
Darn good stuff to watch,,and learn from. I use an expoxy gun on smaller scale when bonding sheet metal qrts, floor panel's, ect on auto restorations, use to (10+years back) spend hrs welding, but the 2 part epoxy's don't warp and stronger than a weld in. Tx West, good vid!
Thanks was a nice look at what you do. Watched some of your video's and can see that you are a skilled craftsman most fabricators I see do not have the level of machinist skill you do.
When you popped that slag off the finished bead.... beautiful. Gotta be some Hollywood-level CGI going on there, which would explain the great editing, too. ;) Those pro mark pencils are pretty sweet. I got three of them free of charge at my local steel supplier because they couldn't sell the things -- proof that it pays to develop a good relationship with folks!
@@westweld Can't say that I'm too enamored with their silver streak leads, but the red, yellow and graphite do pretty well, imo. Anything's better than soapstone! :D

Haha thats what my wife said too.....every time i get a new windshield it chips in a week so I gave up until it obstructs my view, and me and my hat have been thruough alot together. Thanks man
I pretty much flux core everything nowadays... thicker than 1/4 I use a stick... my fav weld type is Tig, but shielding gas is 30 miles away anytime I need to fill it
I already have some regular flux core wire so does that mean I can use it with shielding gas to get the same result or is Dual Shield specifically made to be used with a shielding gas?
Specifically made for shielding gas, and typically only the specified gas. This is the best semiautomatic process out there in all positions! Not really good for downhill at all, but it’s forte is heavier steel which shouldn’t be welded downhill anyway!
This is insanely helpful! Going to epoxy threaded rod for standoffs for my pole barn in the future and wondered what would be best. Question answered. Do you know if the posts they used were treated or are they leaving them raw?
it depends on the size of the machine i was running .045 diameter wire but if you were to get .035 it would take a little more voltage than regular wire and also knurled drive wheels are suggested but they sell those for most machines. If your machine is maxed out when you short circuit mig on say 1/4 plate then it probably isnt enough power but if you have some room it should work fine
Good video shows the realities of the life. That hilti product really should have been RE500 (black and red tube, sizmic rated) if a stone wall is being built on top of it. Looks like you were using RE200, also the holes should be reamed with a brush as well as blown out If this stuff is applied correctly, the high tensile threaded rod will snap before the rod pulls out of the concrete, it surly is a modern day construction miracle product.
Thanks dont claim to be an expert on epoxy I use what the rep suggests......and the holes were brushed out with a brush that goes on a cordless drill just didn't get any footage of that
help me out here. is dual shield the same as flux core that is used without shielding gas only you are using the gas to add more shielding. or is it different.
So dual shield flux core is different it has flux in the middle but also requires gas.....flux core (often the stuff that comes with little welders ) is different using shielding gas with that wouldnt help you. If you used dual shield flux core with no gas it would be full of porosity.

@@westweld Ok so you learned some welding fundamentals on the job and then added on top of that with RU-vid. I agree 100% about RU-vid and what a great resource it is. Some of the hands-on skills, like welding, can be a little tricky to learn from videos I think. I think it would be quicker with a skilled person teaching and watching your technique but even then a skill like welding just takes lots of practice. Having said that, it's how I learned (and am still learning) to weld 100%. You watch it being down and listen to angle, puddle, speed, and all that stuff in the videos but doing it is a whole different thing. You might think your angle is good or that your travel speed is correct but maybe it isn't and no one is there to tell you otherwise.

So a buddy just send me a link for a depot-grade Lincoln 140 mig and I was just remembering the cheapie you used for a video and gave away. I (like a commenter below) began to learn welding in 2020 thanks to convenient bad timing? and a purchase of a Lincoln square wave tig. Turns out I probably should have watched more youtube before dropping the loot, I'd have probably gone with something else but ya live and learn. Now that I can poorly tig, I really want a point and shoot and I have a spare high pressure bottle that I can use for a mig setup and I'd prefer not get a flux-core only super cheap machine. I tried to win your give-away but wasnt lucky enough... womp. Any recommendations for a cheap mig for a hobbiest?
Honestly I don't think you can beat that yes welder machine I gave away for under 500$ and it has alot more capabilities than just a super cheap fluxcore machine, in my experience if you buy just a fluxcore machine some day down the road your going to wish you could do more......also just wanted to mention in this video I was using dual shield fluxcore and that requires gas just like hardwire mig.
@@westweld yeah, I cant see wasting money on a flux only. I remember you said you were using dual shield and it's funny how a project can go south in a small garage if you need the door open or proper vent for safety. TIG is nearly impossible outdoors unless it a pretty still day. That YESWELDER is on scamazon for like $383... dual shield here I come! Thanks man. I would say so, both rod and flux MIG are very similar but you should get better penetration using 6011 or even better 7018 for estructural. The main advantage of using MIG welding wis SPEED
they should have spec'd them to be galvinzed. maybe it would have cost them an extra few hundred bucks and a week or two but it looks like it needs it.
