Honestly, I don't think I've ever gotten 7 hours of battery life out of my regular DualSense. But I've always got everything default on mine, too. This is better than I was expecting.
I get 11 hours on mine with ps5 games. Tested on gt7. Adaptive triggers and haptics on maximum. Light on minimum. Microphone off. Speaker off. No headphones connected to the controller. With ps4 games I get 13 hours. I’ve had the controler just over 2 years.
Right? Dude it feels like my normal dualsense controller doesn't even last 5 hours. If I start to stream not even 2 or 3 hours in I'm always charging my normal controller
I could be wrong but when a ps5 controller is connected to a pc the adaptive triggers is deactivated & will not use any battery, I could be totally wrong! Please correct me if I am!
You should do that test again, even sony says The Edge only gets 4.5 to 5 hours but then that's playing time and not standby time and it seems you did more eating than playing.
I love the controller, it’s the first pro controller I ever had. Having on the back of the controller is game changing for a lot of games. The main reason I decided to get the controller was because I can change out the analog sticks. I have replaced controllers due to stick drift and then I got to the of just dealing with it. Now I don’t have to 😊
EXACTLY THIS. it will end up paying for itself, ive been through 2 controllers which is disgusting . And i hate drift. A shame battery life isn't improved. Tho.
Battery differences: Dual Sense - 1560 mAh Dual Sense Edge - 1050 mAh The reason for the smaller battery is because Sony engineers had to cram so much more extra features/moving parts into the existing controller without changing the overall design in such a confined and awkward shape so something had to give.
Because your switch pro controller doesn't have all the features that the Dualsense Edge has. Touchpad, mic, haptic triggers, replaceable thumsticks, profile buttons that allow you to swap mappable button layout profiles, also allows you to change thumbstick tension professionally. As well as a few other features. I have a switch pro controller, and the gulikit king kong pro 2 switch/pc controller, and it's also not even close to comparing to the Edge.
Upgraded the battery in my launch day dualsense. I now get around 20-25 hours. Easy upgrade. I'm sure there will be a 3rd party battery for the edge soon.
This is definitely better than I expected. That being said, even if you averaged around 4 to 5 hours on their battery I still think the controller would be worth it. This was designed after all as a pro controller. I assume they expected for competitive purposes most of the time it would be plugged in for the lowest possible latency. That also explains the secure clip for the cable. Something to also note is the thumb-sticks can be replaced if needed. Being pro controllers are so expensive these days that is a big plus and could save you a lot of money overtime. In the end it is not perfect with the battery and only two back buttons but really no other pro controller on the market today offers the full feature set of the PS5 along with the software integration. Who knows, we may even get a hall effect sensor option down the road from either PS or a third party for the thumb-sticks.
@@cheatoffchannel6320 it has basically all the same features, the difference is that the Xbox controller has a way bigger area to fit a rechargeable battery since there's normally 2 giant AA's there, meanwhile the dualsense edge had to shrink from the original battery size
@@zigga967 I too have gotten great battery life out of my Elite 2's and really the Elite's as well. The problem I see more often is latency. It seems to be more of an issue with the Elite 2's. Some have reported build quality as well but so far I have not seen any issues to talk about other than the latency for now. This is on two separate Series X's with two different Elite 2's. It is mainly noticeable on FPS. This is something that doesn't happen on my PS5 and DualSense controllers including the Edge. The problem goes away if you plug the Elite 2's into the consoles but that defeats any advantage the battery has over the DualSense controllers. I keep all firmware updates on my consoles and controllers up-to-date so that shouldn't be the issue. I do have a lot of network devices as well so possibly something is causing interference in communication to them but to be honest that is remote at best. I have also not experienced any other network issues out of other devices including my PC .
Thanks for this video, I was reluctant to get it because everyone saying it has about 4 hours of battery life but knowing it has 7 is a relief. I only every play for about 5 tops so I will definitely pick one up soon
Battery wasn't an issue for me. If your getting a pro controller your probably pugging it in to get best response times anyway. What turned me away was only 2 extra buttons on back instead of 4. I'd gladly try the thing out if it had 4. But since I'm using a scuf with 4 already it'd be a downgrade to get this.
Could careless if my controller is wireless or not. If you’re buying this to have an advantage for FPS why wouldn’t you have it plugged in anyway? Can’t wait mine comes tomorrow. Great breakdown
@Nnete why are they in denial? It is personal preference. I don't have mine wired, but I could due to my setup. I understand it would be an issue if your setup is connected to a large TV and you sit on a couch, trailing cable isn't ideal.
Battery I don’t mind since I’m always sitting close to my ps5 when I play but not having 4 paddles like come on I’ll admit tho the replaceable stick is what sells it for me if this came out when the ps5 first dropped I would be up money in just replacing stick modules instead of replacing a whole controller for $70
I'm so glad you got flamingtoast, I've ordered from them many times they make great stuff and it definitely makes your control look better even though there are other companies that could literally color it for you like Colorware and Lazamods. In terms of the battery I suggest you look into getting a Nexigo Battery Pack. I own one and all you have to do is plug it into your controller and it will charge it for you without needing a cable very useful
Wow that’s much better than I expected. Due to all the media and dodgy reviewers I had 4 hours in my mind. There really needs to be more actual PlayStation fans mentioning these things like you are doing, as that time is way more than everyone was expecting
Most people are measuring battery life while gaming. Based on what he said in the video it seems like at least 2 and a half hours he was either eating, messing with his cameras, or chatting with friends instead of actually playing games. The amount of time actually gaming seems to be fairly in line with the "dodgy" reviewers.
People like you are exactly who those losers are after. Don't believe everything you hear right away. I played for 3 hours yesterday and lost a single bar.
Lol why waste time on a bunch of sheep who cry about a battery? The funny thing is I KNEW that the controller was great because you fools cried about the battery and not the controller itself. I think complaining about battery life is foolish. For one most people don't sit down and play 6-8 hours at a time! And for two it's super easy to simply plug the long cable it comes with into the console or wall outlet near you. I haven't had any problems with the battery life in the edge.
And also, let be honest.....people are complaining about the battery life because they're finding something to bag on since they won't spend the 200 bucks on it. If it was 140 we would NEVER be hearing about no battery lol
Regardless of how many hours of battery you have, you have to take into consideration what’s best for you. I have less time to game + I’m always close to my ps5, so battery life is no consequence for me. Don’t let other people *fully* influence your decision.
I just pulled an all-nighter with my DualSense Edge *(haptic feedback + adaptive triggers at 💯% MAX & light bar at dim)* from 1:20AM-8:20AM playing: - COD: MWII - God of War Ragnarök - Gran Turismo 7 - Kena: Bridge of Spirits - Sifu - Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm And my Edge tapped out at 8:17AM. It was literally just 3 minutes shy of 8 hours. It’s an 8 hour controller. For me at least.
I got just over 8 hours playing MW2 & Warzone non stop, all vibration and haptics turned off and lights set to lowest setting. I play on a monitor at a desk so really not hard for me to plug it in and charge for an hour every day. For battery care and longevity I try to never let the battery get to lpw or charge to high, i will use the controller till it hold 1 bar of battery then charge u till it has 3 bars but not to 100% I tend to do this once a day while playing all my controllers last forever
I got a DualSense Edge Controller as well. Been playing Spider Man Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West with the new controller along with a Pulse 3D wireless headset. I'm really liking the controller a lot and the feel of it. I also have the new Xbox elite controller 2 as well and the DualSence just feels a little bitter for me so far. I will continue to test the battery life on it as well. Great review all around.
Tbh, its not a game breaker for me, i play with the controllers connected to my ps5. So for me is fine. But im sure for other players who dont play like that, might be something to think about
That's not bad. With all the bad Comments it has gotten from the "specialized media" I thought it was going to be like 4 or 5 hours. I guess thats the time I get with my regular dualsense
I didn't realize this had a smaller battery... 7 hours seems good I don't think I ever get that with the dual sense...... but man why is it that these manufacturers not make a controller brand with atleast a 2000 or 3000 mah battery,...... hell the one thing we use all day which is our phones comes with a 4000 to 5000 mah battery.
I keep my controller on charger when I play regardless everyday so even if I had my controller off the charger it wouldn't bother me cuz im old school with things. If the controller dies it dies and if it don't it don't. But the in the long run not everything gonna last forever so at some point you have to replace a battery for the controller anyways so it won't matter.
Amazing the excuses that people make to justify their purchase. This is why Sony won’t even bother improving. On Xbox and Nintendo you get 40 hours minimum. 50 if you disable vibration. Stop making excuses for Sony.
@Vitor Fernandes it's not an excuse for Sony. Nor do I give a damn about Sony and their shit they have doesn't matter if its xbox, gamecube,Nintendo switch etc. I play games to play games and not complain about the small shit. So your comment is irrelevant to me.
Yes but it would be a alot easier to replace that battery if it were user removable but it's built into the controller and much more of a pain to get at then it is on even the standard Dualsense controller. A simple battery door and battery pack would have been so much better. Another thing that puzzles the shit outta me is if you look at the battery packs for a Standard Xbox Series X controller they are physically smaller then the battery Sony uses in their Dualsense controllers but they get more then double the battery life. What gives?
@@vitorfernandes651 🤣🤣🤣 are you joking. What is this the 3rd generation for Xbox pro controller??? That gets stick drift and is ruined. Unlike the ps controller. The only thing not superior in the ps controller is battery. Literally beats the Xbox controller in every other way. The Xbox and Nintendo controller have half the tech that edge can do. You do get if playstation didn't focus on new things, and upgrades then of course they could of made the battery way better. I'll take all the new tech over a longer battery everytime. Xbox and Nintendo are the lazy ones. They didn't even change their controller from last gen to next gen, least amount of exclusives. And don't even get me started on the switch. My ps vita is almost nicer then that thing. I couldn't even play the new Pokemon it was so bad.
More than enough! I can always finish my gaming sessions.. I always have to charge it the next session. And I chose to use that long cord to just play forever. I got just shy of 8 hours right from a full charge! I have NOT a use my other controllers since.
Good video mate. I don’t actually think 7:20 is that bad. Sure, it’s not great but that’s more than I need in a session. And if I need more, I can play wired - even if it’s just to charge it again while playing.
My DS last for around 8 hours with everything on default And My DS Edge last for around 7 hours with medium trigger effect and medium vibration. Kind’a surprise on how the battery could last until 7 hours, as in other channel, they breakdown the DS Edge and found out that the battery is only 1000mAh compared to DS battery 1500mAh
Over 7 hours with all the motors and lights turned up. No wonder I'm yet to see a low battery notification 5 days later with my regular playing/charging habits.
I don’t mind too much because I don’t play for more than 7 hours anyways and if I were to I wouldn’t mind plugging it in since I’m basically sitting right in front anyways. Plus the lock on the cable is definitely nice and I appreciate that thought.
That's enough imo, also it was running your headset, which I have mine plugged into my console directly. Also, if you're not a living room couch gamer, might as well run it wired, like, why not
And then he took a break too. This is bad testing. When I tested my DualSense I switched off the console when I finished. And then back on to continue the test.
Very bad testing, half that time the controller was in standby mode, if your gaming sessions are only 4 to 5 hours nobody should be bitching about battery life.
I don't use haptics or vibrations in any controller growing up, I find them distracting. As for the LED lights I always keep them on the lowest setting or dim, and if it'll let me I'd even turn them off cuz I'm not looking down at my controller when I'm gaming so esthetics like that don't matter, they're more for catching everyone else's attention.
If you're not taking breaks every 3-4 hours, for at least 15 minutes, then you have problems. The battery charges crazy fast by the time you're done having a snack or going to the bathroom, the controller is more than halfway charged lol It's not a phone, you don't need 14 hr+ battery life, it's a device that's ALWAYS sitting net to a cable or dock, how is it an issue? Problem would be if it lasted 1-2 hours, which is not the case.
Because batteries degrade. And smaller batteries degrade faster than larger batteries because they need to be charged more frequently. So you don't just have a battery with 33% less capacity, you also have a battery that will degrade and die 33% faster. You don't need 14 hour battery life, but you also don't need trigger stops, replaceable thumbsticks, back buttons or literally anything else on a pro controller. Because nobody needs a pro controller, thats what a standard controller is for. The job of a pro controller is to be better than a standard controller, thus it is an issue when it is not.
I 2nd that Best game I’ve played on ps5 is Returnal. To this day I fire it up once a week. Can’t get enough. Might pick up one of those dual sense controllers.
7 hours is great! For a elite $200 edition controller that's not cool when you have the competition xbox elite throwing out a 40 hour battery life. The controller is fun but not a necessity for the casual gamer. Just for those like have the funds to afford to add to there ps collection
Anyone posting saying they wouldn't buy this controller because of the battery life wasn't going to buy it in the first place. There are way too many features it offers to turn off a REAL customer from buying it simply due to battery life. Perhaps people conveniently forget that Sony includes the power cable to keep it powered up for extra long gaming sessions. Only because it's Sony that people will trash it because of the battery. It's a non-issue.
While yes they should have a percentage on the controller, you can see the exact percentage if you just connect the remote to your phone or iPad…I have a battery widget that I use so as soon as it connects I seee the battery percentage on my Home Screen
if you watch a tear down video of the DSE youll soon see that sony couldnt fit a bigger battery in there they tried but the back buttons and the new features take up to much space but idc since you get a 2 meter long cable and a lock to keep it in so its fine there and to be fair youll probably not even use the controller for 7 hours straight and if youre done gaming you just put it on the charge not just that but taking the back off gives you access to the battery without undoing much to any cables meaning you can simply replace the battery that fits and that has a bigger charge or just replace it if your battery degrades they are very cheap on 3rd party websites
They put a much smaller battery just so they had room for the swappaple joysticks. Such a stupid decision. They should have just gone with the magnetic joysticks that prevents stickdriift, then it would never been a need to swap the joysticks to begin with
I wonder how long the lifespan is? How long it would be before it becomes practically like a wired controller? If only they made a version that lets us use a pair of Eneloop 1900mAh AA rechargeable batteries so we won't have to send it back or DIY. These batteries last my Xbox One for about 3 days of 6 - 8 hours gaming with vibration on and is advertised to last up to 2000 charges.
People complaining about the battery life but honestly what’s the difference between this and the switch or steam deck or even other controllers? They all go dead around that time. Or if you got extra money, just buy two and switch them out . Not a big deal to me!
That's plenty of time but you weren't playing the entire time so that makes it kind of hard to know if the battery would have lasted that long if you were playing the entire time but you also have a headset plugged In which I would never have plugged in so it's kind of hard to say how long the battery would really last. Either way I have a portable charger so if my headsets dying or my controller is dying I can just plug it in
I have a two-year-old dual sense 5 that I still can't kill in one sitting, I'm a hardcore Destiny 2 player and I'll sit down and play the game hard for 5 hours straight. I don't get all the hate about battery life If you're pulling all-nighters gaming then you should have multiple controllers on charging docks anyway. So relying on One controller to have insane battery life is pretty much your fault!
@John Pineda. The elite doesn’t have haptic feedback, a touch, pad, or even a speaker. Sure battery life suffers a little but I have it plugged it all the time so no worries. What do u need 40hr batt life? You play the full 40hrs?
This cannot be possible . My dualsense only lasts about 3 hours of straight game play before charging it again. It's amazing but the battery is again a big disappointment.
If we exclude standby and rest time it's roughly 5.5h. After 6 or more months when battery will be more degraded it will be around 3 hours and less. 😂 And all that for that price - 240€? No thanks.
it’s equally not hard to plug in your controller with a 9ft cable. probably easier since you don’t have to look for your battery, pop the cover open, swap the battery, then charge the dead one. plugging it in is like 2 steps max. plug cable to ps5, plug other end to the controller. alternatively… put the controller down and take a break every few hours
@@macback6011 not sure. But I’ve charged my edge via both my PS5 and wall outlet and there is no charging breathe light on the edge. With my stock PS5 controller, there is a breathe light that pulses orange while charging.
No Suprisie...couse the Second Way to find out was opening the DualEdge and take a Look to the Inside( what took 5 Minutes?).The Batterie is a smaler than the first one couse the Batterie from the normal had no Space in the Edge( much new funktions and MetallPeaces ) ...and its written on the Battery it has less Power 🤏little bit .Kabel is Fine ...I want a Arcarde Stick for StreetFighter 6 ..Price of Stick is 300 just with Kabel , No Akku , No Funktions ! Just a Pro Stick for SteetFighter 🤔DualEdge for 240 is Fine!
What the hell is wrong with pluging a controller in to charge? You don't walk around when you play games lol! The controller is great definitely something you should look into. And don't let them lie to you $200 dollars is CHEAP! I also have a $275 Battle Beaver custom controller. That I haven't touched since launch day
