Been up and down Hwy 31 many times during my driving career, and love Summer Lake. Desolate, beautiful, otherworldly...totally different scenery than western Oregon. You'd have to be a particular kind of person to live there. But if the nukes ever go off, Summer Lake would be the place to be.
My family would have an annual camp out/reunion in Paisley during the 70's & 80's. I don't know if you've heard the name, but the Kellers have a lot of history there. I'm glad to see how much you've improved the property as the last time I visited in 1993, the facility looked to be on its last legs. I pray that Eastern Oregon will not be destroyed by the Trump administration and its "drill baby drill" mentality.
