£35 is actually quite good value for money for the DAB and FM SKU128600961 NE-3111 R2 Made in China Receiver - The switch mode power supply "wall wart" plug has a tendancy to give out but can easily be replaced. Here we change the old capcitors on the audio and powersupply circuits.

Great vid mate ! But for 35 quid I don't expect to have to get the soldering iron out ha. I think the Google nest mini is a good replacement for these dab radios now. But the disadvantage there is obvs you need the internet

Yes, I’d definitely upgrade the speakers and make a nicer, thicker enclosure. Perhaps fit some tweeters too!!

I can think of another modification worth doing is a 9:1 UNUN to match the Rod Antenna to the RX Module.

I just learnt something... unun is balun a balance transformer for a long wire! ... I know what a balun is, but I had never heard or seen it called a unun! thank you!

Didn't hear any sound from radio - before/after. Very messy long soldering job. Why used low ESR capacitors.

It's cheap, I'm a skinflint, the caps were in the draw, no point in spending money if you don't have to!

I've got one of those and the volume button will only turn down! I have to reset it to get any sound. It defaults to volume 9 then, as I said, it turns down only!!

I can only imagine how annoying that would be!!! .... sounds like there could be a shorted button or track on the circuit board.

I have one of these and a couple of weeks ago it stopped making any sound. The display works, and it scans fine, but no sound. I've booked it up to some different speakers but still no joy. Could it be the capacitors, or the amp chip at fault?

Those caps tend to dry out over time and can cause issues...

Sounds like power isn't getting to the PCB... It's the blue screen illuminated?

So if you also replace the power supply and put much better speakers in it it would be even better? I like the idea of a farting radio, wish it had a switch just for that!

Actually that’s a very interesting point! If you fitted two sets of speaker binding posts on the rear and connected two external speakers this unit would sound amazing... that would be a fantastic easy upgrade!!! Plus I’d fit a missile switch to make it fart just for you :-)

This radio is absolute rubbish. The standby button do not work. Volume button turns the radio extremely high. Turning the volume down I have to turn the button the opposite direction. Absolute waste of money.
