A great day out on the restoration project was had by all! Here's some history, some engineering discussions and a pleasent overview of the beautiful coach. Big thanks to Pete, Richard, and "The Owner" - music by BigJoeBone. Sometimes, it's nice to make video, I really enjoyed this one!

I'm a huge fan of Bristol Commercial Vehicles/Eastern Coach Works buses from the 60's and 70's, as I lived in Bristol then and used Bristol Omnibus services to get to school and sometimes to go exploring. I must have been about 10 or 11 when my parents let me go off for an exploration of the Bristol Omnibus network, or at least as much of it as I could do in one day. This was in the mid to late 60's. I caught a number 3, 5, 7 or 7A bus from where I lived in Horfield down to the country bus station at Marlborough Street in the centre of Bristol. While on that service I bought a Day Rover ticket, which would allow me unlimited travel on the network for a day. I picked up a number 300 bus at the bus and coach station, which was the service to Cardiff. It was one of the first Bristol REs, and was in Red and White livery. I travelled on that across the Severn Bridge (there was only one then), and on to Newport, where I got off and travelled back to Bristol on a return service. At the coach station I transferred to a service that went down the A38 towards the airport, but got off the bus near Blagdon and transferred to another service that went East towards Bath. That service was provided by a Bristol SUS, and until now I have not been able to identify what type of bus it was, thinking it might have been an MW. However, having heard the Albion engine sound, I recognised it instantly. What I want to know, if any of you actually know, is why this engine has such a distinctive sound. Is it a two-stroke diesel, because it sounds different to any other four cylinder diesel I've heard? In case you're wondering, I did make it home before the end of services that night, but it was about 8.30 pm and I didn't get allowed to do it again.

I need to get Pete to answer that... I'm away on holiday at the moment but I'll ask him to check the comments section! Thanks for the newsy post! Howard

Really neato! There were electric buses when I was a wee tot. They ran attached above to the power lines above the road. The lights would go off and on and were a very bumpy ride.

Wow... that sounds like trams 🚊 ... but a bus! How cool! I think there are a few states that still have them!?
