I think that's a koto, or a shamisen* (the asian string plucked instrument) I love the way it's implemented in the song! Varien always makes epic compositions!

Varien comes through once again with this awesome song. This song brings back the older nostalgic dubstep from monstercat incorporating lots of epic new sounds to complete this release. I love the progression of this song. The 018 album is definantly going to make a name for itself with these epic songs. WOOOOO MORE PEGBOARD NERDS!!! i knew this was coming but i wanna hear this so bad. Here it comes was phenomenal and i love to hear what else they can do. The pegboard nerds never disapoint us. 018 is just around the corner.

7 years later and I still fucking love this song, so unique! Blew my mind back then and still does now. So many layers to it, every time I listen I hear something different. Came back to this because the Genshin Impact 2.1 music reminded me of it.

I used to not like Varien that much, but with his last 2 releases, he's turning into one of my favorites. I want to see him try electro, or just something that's different. Pegboard Nerds are back, hopefully with something that isn't as disappointing as Bassline Kickin'.

Varien - Gunmetal Black 0:01-0:15 Peaceful asian forest scene. A samurai meditates high up on a mountain peak overlooking the forest. 0:15-0:23 A trail of smoke and debris winds through the forest tree line. The samurai notices a robot flying through the forest at high speeds leaving a cloud of dust in it's wake. 0:23-0:44 The samurai leaps down into the forest and begins his chase through the winding forest terrain, keeping up with the machine. Green moss covered tree trunks create an interesting swerling bridge for the samurai to use in his chase. 0:44-0:57 Suddenly the robot stops on a dime in the forest ahead of the samurai. The samurai slows down and creeps out from the bushes. Causiously he gets closer, examining the robot's black exo-skeleton and orange light shining out through the openings in it's armor. 0:57-1:11 A shockwave made by the robot knocks the samurai down. he looks up and gets to his feet... 1:11-1:39 Suddenly, the robot unleashes a barrage of attacks taking the samurai off guard. The samurai frantically tried to dodge and evade all attacks as missiles and lazors cut through the forest around him. The samurai doesnt know how long he can keep this up, but at a window of oppertunity he manages to take the upperhand. 1:39-2:07 The samurai gets his sword out and begins his counter attack. Cutting at the robot, sparks splash off it's black armor. The machine can't be offensive while taking all this damage. It is totally stunned. The samurai is winning, and the end is in sight! 2:07-2:20 Suddenly, the robot releases a big blast that kicks up all the dust in the area. the dust is cleared by a beautiful breeze and the samurai lays motionless on the floor in the distance. 2:20-2:34 The samurai's palm strikes the ground and he slowly lifts himself up, regaining his footing and looking up at the robot. He glares at the machine, with a look of frustration. 2:34-2:37 The robot pulls an orange glowing mechanical sword out of itself. The samurai knows this will be the final battle... 2:37-3:05 Both the robot and samurai lunge at each other, moving at a blurred speed right into an extremely fast pace flury of attacks. cuttin at each other's blade. giving and taking. Sparks from each sword create a rain of golden light as the two winde around each other slashing frantically to cut each other in half. 3:05-3:18 The area around them is being devistated by the force of the fight. Ruins crumble, tree's shake, and shockwaves rip through the long grass and flowers. 3:18-3:32 The samurai starts dashing from every direction cutting through the robot. The robot somehow deflecting critical hits as it continuing the fight. The machine kicks it into over drive and the samurai cant keep this up any longer. 3:32-3:38 the final blow is struck... and a head spins through the air, while everything goes black. who won? You decide.

Oh Dear.... This song is so epic. I never really liked varien but this was amazing. it was so adventurous. It made me feel like I was watching a Japanese movie, but WOW....this was perfect. Much better than Scarlet Dawn. Nothing much to say. I wasn't really a big fan of electro rock. Pegboard Nerds, New Style? Pfft... I heard its gonna be big room. Hopefully, it won't be as bad as bassline kickin

Varien somehow reminds me of Celldweller. Just the mixing of genres with versatility and uniqueness of each song.

Im really digging this style of dubstep. Instead of blasting the WUBWUBWUBs in our faces, its more used as a subtle seasoning over this already good song.
