This unique funicular in Dubuque, Iowa was built in 1893. I was surprised to see that there is no back door to the vehicle! Unfortunately when I was there I was limited in time so I didn't get to ride it. I walked up (9 minute vigorous walk) to the top to get some video from up there. I was hoping to ride it down but found an even longer line waiting to ride than the line at the base! I was also traveling by myself so I didn't know if I should share the cabin during COVID. I didn't want to use up a whole train just for me.

@@mdashikurbbaria7593 currently, I think its for tourists. Most people that live on the hill have cars and drive. Also, if I were a local and used this for transportation, I wouldn't want to wait 45 minutes or 1 hour for a ride. Of course, when this was built in 1893, it was for transportation. It was only a 9 minute walk for me to get from the base station to the top station. It was a workout climbing the hill and it was a good workout.

Thank you! Japan has lots of inclined railways, funiculars but they are all more modern.

Nice, nice. If you like Funicular you have to try them all in Valparaiso-Chile. Some of them are really scary and even also very old. :-) Pity you made no POV from this ride.

I'd like to go back and ride this some day. When I was there, I think they were limiting the ride to one party, and I was by myself. I didn't want to wait for such a long time, and also I didn't feel right taking the whole car just for myself.

Yes, that's one reason I decided not to ride it. I didn't want to hog a whole cabin just for me and I wasn't sure if I should ask to share with a group of 2 or 3. The wait to ride was also about 1/2 to 1 hour, so I was happy to just watch it and not ride it.

The two elevators can only move at the same time?

Yes, this is very common that the two elevators only move at the same time. They are counterbalanced. This is from wikipedia, "The two cars counterbalance each other, drawing motive power from an engine in the station house at the top of the hill. The engine only needs to overcome inertia and friction and compensate for the varying weight of the passengers in the cars."
