I just bought a 99 monster 750 and wanted to take care of everything and this video showing how to do the timing belt is awesome very helpful and not as hard as I thought it was going to be thank you
Most informative and easiest to follow belt change video I've ever seen for a 2 valve Ducati. I have the same bike but a year older, mine was taken care of horribly by previous owner, working on fixing it up right now. Earned a sub from me!
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing, my bike was stolen and 3 years later it was found and I have it back! Will be a pleasure to do the timing belts! This is very helpful! Thanks!
Thank you for this video. It’s not a very technically challenging job but it sure gets the heart pounding at the moment of truth. I used your method and also lined up the marks for TDC. I was scared as hell in a good way but now it feels amazing to have done it myself.
Hey Flynlow, got a 695 aswell. Did you use any other tools? Are any tools to lock the camshaft or the crankshaft required? Did you remove the spark plugs?
I'm wondering why everyone dreads this belt service. It really doesn't seem like a huge deal. Great tutorial, I'm not gonna pay a tech to count for me lol
hey now, im from NC and i dont sound a lick like that! haha Thanks for the tutorial man, just got a 06 Ducati Monster 620 Dark Edition and im glad i found a good tut on belts as its coming up on 24k miles and the previous owner had it sitting for a while. no real clue when the belts were last changed but he said it wasnt "too" long ago. bike sounds good so im really not too worried. hopefully haha regardless, thanks again for the tutorial man, will be using it in the upcoming weeks. Cant be too safe when buying older stuff, wont hurt much besides the pocket but will save a lot if it had been neglected.
This is really informative. Thanks for sharing. The bolts that secured the tensioning rollers were stripped and I need to replace them. Would you know where I could find replacements?
There are little screws (on mine m750 S.i.e.). You take the screw out and it allows you to put something through the hole and into the teeth of the gear. Then the gear doesn’t move.
Without tension on the belt, it is easy to put the belt in the wrong notch. It is extra protection from a costly mistake. Even with the pullies marked to the case, they will move and can get the belt out of place. I wish the belts came marked like timing chains are.
Two new belts are 100.00. One used head is 500.00, if you can find one and it is very difficult to remove a cylinder head. I would personally change the belts.
It is your money. Either pay Mike at Gotham Cycles 75.00 for belts or pay the dealer 1600.00 and wait five weeks for them to complete the job. www.gothamcycles.com/Monster1346079198/ducati-trufit-timing-belts-900ss-monster-900-m900ie-st2.html
I used the Chinese knock offs sold by gothamcycles.com. They are exact fit and half the price of the OEM belts. With the four valve it is a good idea to line up all of the timing marks. You will need to get the wrench to turn the shaft and the pulley holder. Then you will mark the belt in three places. When you pull the first belt off you place the holder on the pulleys this way you know the cams don't turn. You can get the tools cheap from hdesausa.com.
Hey I have a question. After I changed the belts and did some kilometres on it. Do my marks have to line up with the marks on the Belt again? I am angry about that because they dont line up anymore but im sure i followed all steps from the Video and during the Installation they were in one line.
Once your belts are replaced, Clean the marks off of the belts. They will Never EVER match up again. It might match up again, and if you notice it, that is the day you should play the lottery.
Sub'd n whatnot. I want to see more videos on the maintenance of this bike. The Haynes manual for these things is pure dung. Mine sits under my feet when I sit at my desk.
@@RideWNC I guess because it's faster to just line up the timing marks and put the new belts on. I just did this and it took 30 minutes. But I changed the plugs as well.
Just take a white marker next time and its much easier to mark it that chis crayon/chalk big nasty thing. Exist from edding. Cool video in general - thanks!
My tire paint stick easily wipes off when I am done with the job. It will last if it sets for more than an hour. Most of us don't like permanent paint marks on or inside of our bikes. But it is your bike do with it as you want.
@@RideWNC The edding also isnt permanent. It is like Tip Ex if you know that. You can scratch it off or wash it away with water. Its for correcting documents to write over it. But you can mark it much more precise and decent.
@@user-sf5ci2ng2u That bike is gone. Someone wanted it more than I did... Then his dumbazz went to Wal-Mart and ruined an 800.00 perfect Corvette Zo6 blue paint job with flat black rattle can.
Yes. But, you will need to get the cam tool to hold the cams in place for the front cylinder while you work on the rear. you do not want one cam to get even a tooth out of place and they turn easily when the belt is removed.
@@RideWNC no no, actually I havent done my belts yet, thats why I watched the video, however, its a good to check the spinny bois while youre in there, innit?
Changing belts on a Ducatis is pretty easy, but I do get the random Starbuck's customer who says that they need to be harmonically tuned. I call BS. Put the new belt on and ride. Just don't ride more than two years or 15K miles on a set of belts and you will always be OK. I have 70K miles on an 848 with no belt issues.
The man who gives me confidance to change my own belts.as ducati asks big money for a belt change.never understood why?belts are cheap.and labor is what?1hour for a pro?
