Yeah, I admit I wasn't terribly satisfied with my Lustron Home video I posted on Wednesday, so while I'll leave that one up for anyone who still wants to watch it, I am uploading this one, completely re-edited and combined with the classic 1951 nuclear propaganda cartoon/video Duck and Cover!
Duck and Cover was a cartoon with live action that sought to allay fears of atomic bombs in the wake of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, and the Russian nuclear test of 1949. It did this in the most ludicrous way, like telling kids that something as flimsy as newspaper can be used to protect oneself from the flash.
Most Americans were kept in the dark about the real destruction in Japan, and too many took these lessons to heart, trusting that they were telling the truth. Nowadays we know Duck and Cover to be useless propaganda. But it's still a historic artifact from the early 1950s
During the Lustron segments I will occasionally interject with my own comments on what I am seeing, so, yeah :)
I added the Duck and Cover segments throughout the Lustron video to add to the general atmosphere in an early 1950s home.
So have fun and remember to...Duck and Cover! :)
