Duck Hunting Public Land | DNR Interrupts Our Hunt

On the second day of the duck camp trip I went on with Cory we had pretty high hopes that we were going to be on the X, given the huge flocks of ducks we had seen in this swamp the day before. A heavy layer of fog seemed to keep the ducks from flying at first light but as it burned off we were seeing more birds moving and quite a few seemed to be returning from fields as well. However, right as the birds were really starting to work our spread we could hear a large vehicle approaching and before long we had two DNR employees riding around our spread and interrupting our hunt. We couldn't figure out exactly what they were up but they didn't seem to have any respect for the fact that we were actively hunting and by the time they were gone the birds had quit flying. We were lucky enough to have enough ducks for a solid lunch but the whole interaction left us pretty disappointed. Hope you enjoy!

Here in New Hampshire I’ve had our fish and game offerers patiently wait for a flock of geese to either commit or flair before checking on us as not to disrupt our hunt. Nothing but absolute respect for the men in green where I’m from. Sorry you guys don’t have the relationship with your dnr

Another nice video! You hit the nail on the head, those guys were crushing a lot of great transitional habitat on the edge of the slough. As a pheasant hunter, I would be inclined to find out who they were and WHY they thought they needed to do that.

Here is MN it is illegal to operate a ATV, UTV or OHV below the Ordinaary High Water elevation of waters of the state unless it frozen. 20 years ago a purchased a ATV to drive down to my lakeshore for ducking hunting and was told real fast that I can't do that (along with a nice little finacial contribution to the state). Is there a double standard here?

Wassup Thomas. I can't believe DNR would interrupt your hunt. They prob didn't know your were there enjoying riding around in the tax payers gift. You all should have invited them for breakfast. LOL. I had a friend with me one morning and I heard him say we have some company. I couldn't see and told my friend. He added must be a squirrel hunting he's wearing a blaze orange toboggan. When he paddled so I could see this person had a full face covering orange toboggan, paddled right up to us and started talking and asking if we'd seen or gotten any. Then my friend asked a strange (.I thought anyway) question. He asked if if " squirrel hunters" name was so n so. While I didnt recognize our new company, I sure recognized the name my buddy asked and instead of answering, he peeled that toboggan off. Our visitor was one of our local game wardens out hunting squirrels and I bet for gold laying on bottom of creek or in flooded areas like our spot. He had no luck hunting either around our spot. Thanks for sharing as always.

It seems to me like they thought you were having too much fun and wanted to break up the hunt. There is a good chance they wanted to hunt that spot themselves and wanted you guys to leave. Unfortunately there are some good wildlife officers but also a lot of left will extremist animal rights wildlife officers that just go around harrassing officers. We had a situation years ago where a wildlife officers kept harrassing my buddy and I. It was later determined he wanted to hunt the farm we were hinting. We threatened to press charges so they transferred the officer to another district. He should have been fired.
@truthmatters4ever247
@truthmatters4ever247 Год назад
We need wildlife officers or we wouldn't have game but here where I live in Ohio there are so few deer we all run to the door because it's rare to see a deer in this area. This is not because of coyotes or poaching. It's because of giving out too many tags because of insurance companies. It's the government's deer until you hit it then it's the insurance companies so they allow hunters to kill them all. We need a year or two where no hunting is allowed in the whole state of Ohio to get the deer herd back on track. Of course the won't do that because the don't wants the millions in revenue from deer tags. It's all about the money!!!!!

those werent game wardens, those were biologists. the people who manage the marsh youre hunting. id venture to guess the water there is pumped onto the wetland and they utilize moist soil management which is an extremly intesive style of wetland managment that requires a lot of work and a lot of infrastructure. They likely were out there to check or change water control structures or pumps in order to ensure that the water was there for you to hunt it. Unfortunately, every once in a blue moon, they might mess up somebodies hunt in order to do that. They might put some track marks through some cover, or they might intentionally destroy cover because its unproductive from a duck food standpoint in order to make more room for duck food. Cattails make great hunter cover but theyre virtually usless to a duck. These people are scientists who have devoted their life to wildlife managment and I promise they know what theyre doing. Next time that happens I highly encourage you to go talk to them and ask questions and educate yourself because there was likely a very valid reason for what they were doing.

Marsh masters are very common, my brother runs a private company the contracts for my states habitst management. People doing that in most cases are the reason marches stay healthy and are a very important part of habitat management in my state. Likely they are mowing certain percentages of weeds for plant water use so water levels are kept at levels where geminating seed production is high, or they could be doing invasive species management. A hole slew of things, I wouldn’t say ruining the habitat, when you don’t know what they are doing. Annoying to be interrupted but could be a very very important work they are doing so you even get to hunt ducks there.

I suggest you take the time to talk to the DNR and ask them what they are doing out there this time of year. They are hard working people. We all should be grateful for them managing our natural areas for us to enjoy. Nice looking area.

@@youtubecertified4643 Show me an example. I would be interested to see an area where DNR was clear cutting. I don't mean that they won't clear cut, but often times there is another goal at hand. Meaning they might clear cut in Michigan to provide early successional habitat for Ruffed Grouse and American Woodcock. Most all the time it is selective harvest. And they aren't profiting From the forest they are using that money to support DNR and the lands they manage. I recommend you research timber harvest and the benefits it has for our native wildlife, forests, and other natural areas.

If I were you, I’d file a formal complaint with the MN State Attorney’s office. Destruction of public marshlands, interruption of your hunt, etc. Hold them accountable!

You need to shoot some skeet

I don’t think skeet really helps with wing shooting much. It’s a solid tool to work on form buts that about it IMO

So the DNR or biologist out doing their jobs and people cry about it. I’m sure they said to each other “hey, I hear shooting let’s go ruin these guys hunt” Nice ID job on those birds. Didn’t get a single one right on the wing. Leash the dog, unsafe to have a break dog in the marsh/blind

Nice to know you have no respect for game wardens. I guess that is what gun owners/hunters are all about.
