Absolutely Paul, we understand that it's a very subjective issue when aspects of reviews or first impressions are taken into consideration, but with this specific style of video by Giles you get very much more objective view.. Well done that man!! Great work..
Nice one Giles!!! I was pumped for this wing. I was hoping it would be a bit better in the launch, but overall it looks awesome. Can't wait to fly one.
Yes, the launch is still fickle, (No freeride) but I'll take that hit for the way it handles in the air. Pack my bags, load up set course and go paracamping....I can't wait.
As we know though Tom, most wings have their very special small launch techniques that we all get used to after a few launches, and make look easy once we are familiar with them..looks an amazing wing regardless..😉😊
I'd rather be honest in a video and show all the facets of a wing, than make it sound like the wing is AMAZING. I'm not the most skilled pilot, I just love flying. This wing is a real game changer, even if its not the fastest wing on the world, it will make xc flying less tiring and more enjoyable.
Absolutely fantastic review Giles, you covered loads here and can’t wait for the numbers videos. The Hadron 3 looks so so stable above your head, would live to fly one!
Nice review! Can't wait for part 2. Especially interested in airspeed (trims in/out/speedbar) and fuel consumption compared to Hadron XX. My HXX is a fine XC machine and I don't even get much of oscillations (unless air is rowdy) but it surely feels busy and catches every bump.
Thank you Max, and yes, the geeky bit will be next time. I have the feeling (even the manual says its 4 kph slow at the top end) that its not going to be as fast but xc wings are not all about speed, its comfort and distance covered for fuel used. At the moment, its fitting that bill very well, bring on the weather and lets see what happens.
Great stuff Giles! I get the feeling you enjoyed that! I hope it can fly a little slower for when we get some flights in together! I'm definitely not seasoned enough to even looking at one, but it gets me excited to see what is out there! Beautiful colours too!
You are joining a sport where these wings are now available, tested and safe. Back in the day, high performance wing were generally an unknown quantity. Enjoy the journey and don't rush the learning curve.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 You sure do. The knee is doing very well. I had my operation 2 weeks ago and I'm on the mend. I also built a trike so I should be able to fly in a few weeks. Hopefully I'll see you at the fly in.
Great review so interesting nice airfield very jealous..I must tell you Giles I once filmed para gliding for a TV prog.. The electrician was running in front of the pilot helping him get in the air going down hill.. I stopped filming as the electrician was holding his back, I put the camera on the ground fast. and I rushed to help him.... I thought he had pulled his back out.....Only to find his shorts and underpants were falling down and he was trying to pull them up while running...al
Uhmmm...all very interesting. I think it might have the new ADT tech in hence why you might have found the launch difficult trims closed. May I suggest something for pure academic purposes. Close the trims all the way (in contrast to the manual) Then use a hard “bump” the get it up. Hold the risers forward till gets to 12 even with throttle up. We NEED to know if it can counter the wind direction and not oscillate or yaw into dominant wind direction. Both the Solo and Warp can do it SOooo EASY. The trim setting on 3 is for the easy takeoff but then you need to be into the headwind as the manual says. This is a new breed and I cant see why they would pass up on the ADT (Any Direction Takeoff) tech. You beat me on the review for this glider but its because I’m really focused on the Warp as the ultimate glider. I’m depending on your further tests bud! Great video. Great info on stability. Also please check the climb rate at ft/min. The Warp is pinned at 750 even past 10 000ft. Love to know the new Haddy’s (even though not all variables are equal...engine, hp, prop etc)
Thanks Eugene, means a lot coming from you. The wind was so variable. I just need more time on the wing. I only had the trims closed on the first ever inflation and that wasn't on camera. I'll try the ADT when I can, I don't want to break my new baby ;)...It did counter the wind quite easily, lauching off wind seemed to happen all the time as it was backing and verring all the time. I'm happy to learn new things. We just need the weather. I'm glad you liked the video. I think this is more like the old WRC, it doesn't climb quickly, just gets going. I'll have my Vario/GPS system next time.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 I don't believe you. I reckon you had a quick peek and maybe even slept with her before resealing the box, before taking it out to make the unboxing video. That non-manufacturer sellotape came off way too easy!! You can't fool us Giles! haha
@@GolfFoxtrot22 yeah, I watched that video as well and it's brilliant! I would not have come to the same conclusion just guessing without having seen the data. Regardless, my new wing should be here in less than a week! 🤙
do launch a little differently but once you understand why, the wing is absolutely fantastic. If I wasn't planning on carrying so much kit in the future I would have gone for the 20.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Yes....2 x Parachums have gotten one each recently, Rab on an 18 & Gordon on a 22...99% of the time they snap them up, jag the breaks to settle and throttle up & away....we had a wee overnight camper-van BBQ a few weekends ago and we all got a few flights, they did fluff a launch each and both times it looked to be a 1 sec too long a pause just as it crowned and the wing un-settled....mine due end of Sep....I plan a day of repetitive launch-lands practice try and lock t in...I have an old 22m Slalom I throw up on occasions....I'm used to that coming in fast, Ive perfected my damp grass foot slide landing on that...lol
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Yes...he mentioned you and that you had reviewed the wing....I only hang out with him cos he is O Neg...always handy to have one on the field...
Thanks Algy. With modern wings the shark nose generates quite high internal pressures coupled with the cross-port venting, the tips are really hard to break out. With me being short person, I couldn't quite get high enough up the line to make it break out. I'll try harder next time ;)
@@GolfFoxtrot22 I do find that on my Gin paraglider small is hard and pops out very fast just the extra 5cm out and they are easy to hold and far more controlled when you let them out.
Yes, I have flown the Warp, 20, but that was a few years ago. Without flying them back to back its hard to compare. They are however designed for different things. The WARP is a Competition wing, the H3 is Pure XC. I need more time on the H3, but I'm loving it already. The WARP is a 300 hour wing, the H3 is only 200..according to Dudek.
Nice interesting review, thank you. I'm a XX 22 pilot myself looking now for either Hadron 3 or Ozone Speedster 3. Any chance you could find one to make a comparison video for those?
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to do any more testing like I did in this video. Both the H3 and S3 will be significantly more stable and hands off then the XX22 from my experience and chatting to current S3 pilots. I hope that helps.
I had 2 that were very very light the evening after, and it still the same, just keep in the A's, and keep moving forward and use the power, and run like the wind. I can't wait to get back out flying it again.
Nice review Giles, looking forward to the geeky numbers tho to see how efficient it is compared to the old faithful Hadron XX..! You mentioned about the stiffening rods at the trailing edge of the wing, do you think this wing can still be loosely packed in the quick pack bag or is it a concertina packing job...?
I stuff sack mine all the time with no issues. Its just making sure they don't get bent too hard. It came packed in 3rds which I thought was unusual, nut now I know why.
That's a really good question. For XC, it's a really easy answer, the Hadron 3 and for the following reasons: it's ability to make flying in a straight line with no pilot input, it's very fuel efficient. It's not the fastest, but xc flying is not about speed but getting to. Your destination by using the right amount of fuel. The freeride was very thursty, but esy to launch, but is trade the easy launch for an effortless long flight. I hope that helps.
@@adibabi 10-4. I have always thought Ozone had a big hole between Speedster and the Freeride. They do need something in between for efficient XC. I had a speedster 22 for a short time but I couldn't justify having in addition to my universal since it is just as fast and efficient. Although the speedster would have had a faster top end on bar. Universal launches a little easier. I did enjoy the 2D steering and other features of the wing.
I wish I could but I have kind of stopped paramotoring as my Peabee has really taken over my flying. It was a good review format but unfortunately pilots tend to like feel and wing wanging as the benchmark of a wing as apposed to real world responses.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 yeah ive seen that one but as i recall it you were doing both back then, now that youve done the switch 100% i figured you might have more to say, maby found new benefits on the prabee etc😊
It was more down to time really. I enjoyed both, but when it was light conditions I preferred the PeaBee as it's a simple take off. When it was windier, the PeaBee again. The more I flew the PEABEE, even in rough conditions, I just felt more comfortable, could fly further and in more comfort. It's still got limitations in terms portability and storage but I can balance them against the joy I get from flying it.
Great job Giles , i like the brakes and tip line but on a high hang point at full trim this might be a problem , is this the way that dudek are going with all new wings in the tip steering ? .
Hi Wayne, you can lower the position, there is space on the rear riser so you can still reach it. Not sure if this is the way they are going as this is the only wing to have it and it just come out. It works though. I'll get back to winglands at some point, just wish it wasn't so far away.
I really did like that part of the wing. I can't comment on the EN classification as its not been tested but from the way it responds, its higher than a B, high C at least. Dudek have given an hours recommendation, 200 hours, 3 seasons and 80 hours a year, I hope that helps.
Thank you, I do try and make useful content, not just entertainment. My body weight is or was just under 80kgs when this was filmed, flying weight was 118kgs. I hope that helps.
@@CXhaust Oh yes.....on the XX. The H3 is suberb and completely different and I'm so glad I bought it. I've been flying it in thermic midday conditions recently, its wonderful, just punches in and out of thermals. Its still going to feel the lift and follow the air currents but thats all. No unwanted oscillations.
@@GolfFoxtrot22 Yes. This is most likely going to be my next wing. Thanks for the Review. I am about 120-123 depending on Fuel so I am trying to decide which size. This is probably the heaviest I will be though.
