Dudley was so talented. Actor, comedian, musician...etc. he passed away far too young. I loved his antics with Peter Cook. Dudley was a wonderful bloke. God bless him.
Thanks for posting this. The Errol Garner influence is so strong at this stage of his career. Lovely to hear. A peerless musician, still greatly missed nearly 20 years on
I always loved Peter & Dudley's comedy when I was a child, but it took time for the music to become clear to me. I adore Dudley's playing and taste now.
I saw Dudley Moore perform at the Rainbow Room, atop the RCA building, back in 1962. It was just when "Beyond the Fringe" appeared on Broadway, which is why Moore was in Manhattan. The play and his piano playing were great!
As a musician, I wish he had just played Jazz and given the comedy the elbow but then one of the best comedy duos of all time would be down by 50%. Gina lollobridgita….what a decision!!
I most certainly did. As a jazz fan of many years standing I am aware that Joe Oliver was Satchmo's first boss and mentor after he left New Orleans and went north to Chicago. One of the all time greats.
@@johnprescott9477 Just because I complimented Dudley Moore's talent in music 🎶 did you feel offended because it never occurred to me at the time to mention Louis Armstrong?
@@JaneFrieman Not at all. I was never offended. Just astonished that you weren't aware of Dudley Moore's musical gifts. Did you know that he graduated from Oxford as an organ scholar? He was an extraordinarily talented man in many fields and he's certainly missed by many, including me.
Thanks for your comments. Check out my beautiful and jazzy new Piano Concerto which I think Dudley would have approved. I met Dudley in 1999 and transcribed his Songs Without Words Disc for Faber in 2011. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Oh3Lu3vw1g.html
I’ll definitely check that out. Talking of transcription, have you any idea of the first chord in this recording? (Lullaby of Birdland) I’m no good at working out Dud’s chords at the best of times plus it’s slightly off pitch which is throwing me. It would get me started 🎹
@@stevelawcomposer Thank you so much. I wouldn’t have got that in a month of Sundays. The right hand F might explain why I was trying to play everything a semitone up. That and a deep seated incompetence. Thank you again
