I will always associate this song to my dad. I had Mario 64 and he had Duke Nukem 64, and I wasn't allowed to play it. At some point, he was stuck and asked me to progress his game but only when he was there. And then, he completely let me play whenever I wanted to, I was 8 at the time. Hope you still kick ass where you are dad.
That's sweet.. my dad didn't care I love him to death. He'd let me play or watch whatever I wanted as long as it wasn't a stright porno. So I got to first game I beat was MGS at 5 years old and my childhood movies were predator 2 and aliens. And concord bad fur day so many good memories 😁. I had an un orthodox yet fun childhood. I hope your father is okay. And if he's not my greatest of of sympathy lies with you :(
Man, seeing this comment makes me think about my own father. Back when we were kids he took us to toy r us to get us a nintendo 64 for Chirstmans. He asked my sister to choose a game and he told me and my brother to choose a game between the two of us. We would look at our gifts everyday under the tree knowing what that big box was with the two little ones beside it. Come Christmas Eve we notice that a third little box had magically appeared. The clock hits 12 and we go right to the games to see what that third game was. It was Duke Nukem 64. I can only imagine he chose this game purely from the cover because he himself didn't play videogames. He probably saw Duke and was like "Damn, this guy looks badass. Maybe my kids will enjoy it." He was completely correct. My dad was so fucking cool and I miss him dearly.
My parents did not know what the "M" on the box meant when I got this... Suffice to say they learned real quick when they saw me play this one. One of my all-time favorite N64 games right here.
Mine did but my dad dident care I wasent a sheltered chiledy dad would let me play or watch anything I wanted along long as if it wasent straight up porn lol
Duke64 reminds me of warm summer days, since I got it as a reward for getting good grades just before the summer break. It was also a much more creepier and atmospheric game due to the lack of background music. The Abyss level really shines because of this. That weird ass chanting will never leave my imagination.
MetalPersonJ Tbh the Battlelord wasn’t scary to me. However, those damn Octobrains were scary as hell, especially those noises they made nearby. Man they were creepy.
I remember this back in 96 or 97. man how times change "Damn those alien bastards are gonna pay for shootin down my ride" "Kick ass and chew bubble gum.. and i'm all outta gum" " Oooh that's gotta hurt" "Suck on my boomstick" "My guns bigger than your's"
duke 64 was the funnest gameplay wise if you ask me. This existing with games like golden eye, perfect dark, turok, doom 64, and conkers made shooting games on the n 64 actually really really great. Who says nintendo can't shoot? Cod can kiss our asses.
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 Cmon man you're talking 20+ years ago. Perfect Dark is my favorite game of all time, but Nintendo is garbage for shooters these days.
Best game when I was about 12, despite all the swearing and stuff, the game was fun as hell and awesome to play with the Duke bots. It may seem like my parents are bad for letting me play this at a young age but hey, the only thing that came out of me playing it was that I found my favourite game ever, even to this day.
The guy at the game store back in the 90s warned my mom it was Rated M cause you know store policy...she couldn't get me Goldeneye so this was close...glad that store was sold out..had alot more fun with this one..not taken anything away from Goldeneye but if any kid has an old N64 play this its badass even with cheats which I aged on both...God I miss this Era of gamimg!
@@StarWolf_88 oh man! doctor pepper, unhealthy food, old fashioned all nighters with my little bro and friends Steve and James. so many laughs, we used to set up a tent in our back yard and move our tv and n64 out and pretty much live there all summer. Loved Perfect Dark cause u could turn on bots, u could name them, we named one Stuvon to troll my bud Steve cause he was bad 🤣 I was the oldest so I'd always have top screen, if we were playing 3 player I'd have the bigger screen, 😈 so many laughs, seems like forever and a day ago! Gonna be turning 36 this summer, man how time flies.. If ur a kiddo, and reading this, enjoy every minute u can, ur only young once..
The problem with today's developers is, they're not some bad ass metal head nerds sitting around drinking and coding games anymore, they're in luxurious office buildings with salaries. These pioneers of bad-assery just don't exist anymore. Reminds me of Early Blizzard too. They didn't care about Copyright or any Bullshit.
That's AAA developers for you. Developers who are contracted to work on whatever their publisher demands. Indie developers are the people to look to for games made with passion these days. Look at FPS games like DUSK, Ion Fury and WRATH. Individuals or modding teams working with dated tech to make the games that they used to love. It works.
@@monsterurby True, there are plenty of indie developers scattered around the IF community and other game communities. I am a Interactive Fiction game developer too.
I didn't know that was the archetypal video game developers back in the day ^^ But it sounds fitting. Also agreeing with everything else, it's all money today, and no SOUL as it was earlier!
Spent SO many hours playing this game with friends. I never realized how inferior it was to the PC version until I finally obtained that version on the Xbox some years ago. I always wondered why it doesn't have the music in single player. It never really seemed strange to me at the time since I hadn't played the PC version. It made the game so much creepier without it. What really unnerved me about this game was the 2D models and the way they would "follow" you so that they were always facing you as you walked around them. The empty astronaut suits really creeped me out, haha. What I really loved was the multiplayer. the Dukebots were so stupid. You could get behind a secret panel or door and half the time they wouldn't know how to get to you, so they would just sit there and hump the wall. "MMH. MMH. WHERE IS IT?" Other times they would just get stuck in places. And you could do all kinds of cool glitches with the invincibility cheat code. You could pause the game right as Duke is getting exploded, disintegrated, shrunk, expanded, squished or just dying, turn on invincibility, unpause and then Duke would be stuck in the corresponding sprite form. For example you could shoot a player with the Expander, then turn on the invincibility cheat as soon as their sprite grows right before they explode, then they would be able to play as a giant Duke Nukem. It was hilarious to see Duke flying around the stage in his blood puking death animation or hovering around as a crushed corpse.
Duke 64 was a game like no other, the quietness made it awesome, you could hear busted pipes, trains, and machines in the background. I played and beat many games for the 64, but Duke Nukem was something way different, and awesome
You sir hit the nail on the head. Always thought the N64 had this creepy ambience that made it a completely different experience from the PC version that I didn't play until many years later.
Oh man, those DukeBots. I can completely relate. They were the worst on the map Shaft (The one with a bunch of water + a grenade launcher at the top of a staircase). They just didn't have a clue what to do!
Ah good memories of living in the city when I was in grade 2 and this game came out. I gamed this with my brother and the cousins! Good times, good times :') I always loved that Nuclear weapon that you charged and killed them with that lol.
My dad bought me DN64 and said: My boy, you need to grow up as a real man, now kick some asses and chew bubble gum, but mom forgot to buy bubble gum. I was around 8 or 9 at this time. My dad and mom were so cool and casual and easy back then. When my boys are at this age, I let them play these games, too. :)
Best memory I'll always have is playing "Fighter Jet" on Stadium. Grabbing a jetpack and doing strafing runs on bots/friends with the SMGs, Pipe Bombing runs or fun with a Missle Launcher (unguided for a challenge).
I remember being 5 and this being my first n64 game back in 98, playing this game for hours..I could never beat the 3rd level though, where you start with no guns and next to the electricity chair..lol I always just played multiplayer with the bots though.
I had Duke Nukem Total Meltdown for PS1 (though had also played this N64 version.) and the level after Death Row was bane of 8 year old me. I could get pretty close to the end, but never find the self-destruct. At one point in the level there were these two huge spinning gears you'd have to get through to progress, and these would crush you unless you noticed a tooth was missing on one of the gears and timed your movement so you'd fit inside the void left by that missing tooth. Since just looking up stuff when you were stuck in a video game wasn't really an option and I never noticed that broken part, that's as far as I'd get. But I still spent hours and hours and hours replaying the game up until that point over and over again.
I did get past that level but like you never beat the game had way too much fun in multi-player with the bots as well😂 first game I ever beat tho at that age was MGS 😁
@@angry_zergling I don’t know if you’ll even see this, but I just got the 3d world 20th anniversary trying to relive my childhood and I got stuck on this level and you just saved me after about an hour of messing around last night, thank you when I’m off of work I’m beating that level
the rhythm tone is so much more clean than distorted and yet it makes it seem much more awesome...duke's so kick ass, he makes mild guitar tones sound like the shit!
I remember playing time to kill with my friend on the PS1 in split screen death match with each other and idk how we achieved this but either by a glitch or an Easter egg. We God Duke to say every God damn catch phrase in the game non stop and we just sat there laughing our asses off. I miss those days 😂 but Duke nukem 64 was one 9f the best duke's of all time. Nostalgia is strong here. It's sad we went different paths we were brothers
One of my first M rated games! Loved it from beginning to end. This is the only version of the opening theme I prefer. Brings back so many memories! 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾#hailtothekingbaby
I fucking love this series. I remember playing this and the 3D version on my crappy old netbook computer back in 2010-2011 when I was in middle school. Always gave me a feeling of euphoria. Especially because of this game and this theme. Duke Nukem is awesome!
Nicklaus Kindelberger Will they ever make another Duke Nukem Game? I know some don't want to see another one anymore after Duke Nukem Forever but I feel like they learned from their mistakes and they could be great once more!
"Ewww! Who's _your_ plastic surgeon?!" - Duke vs. The Battlelord "In a perfect world, _you'd_ already be dead!" - Duke vs. The Overlord "IT'S DOWN TO YOU AND ME, YOU ONE-EYED FREAK!!" - Duke vs. The Cycloid Emperor
So, this game has been released on a Halloween day back in 1997 after i was born, huh? Now i'm gonna dress up as Duke Nukem next Halloween thanks to the level called ''Castle Dukenstein.''
Can anybody else hear their best friend who remembers all the cheat codes entering them super fast on the title screen, and then some random alien screaming when you got the cheats down.
