Duke Snider's Induction Speech in Cooperstown, NY. A graceful center fielder with a picture-perfect swing, Duke Snider was the biggest bat in the Brooklyn Dodgers' potent lineup of the 1950s. He hit 40 or more homers five consecutive times and led all batters in home runs and RBIs during the '50s. The Duke of Flatbush hit four homers in two different World Series (1952 and '55), clouting a total of 11 Series home runs and 26 Series RBIs.

Bowie Kuhn for all his faults ran a good game and made sure everyone was on the up and up. As for Duke, he had it all. He had the bat, glove, and feet. Just why did it take from 1964 to 1980 to be elected to the HOF.

duke played in the golden era of mlb,,1950's. never mind mickey mantle, & willlie mays. duke was the 1950-59 leader in HR, RBI, R, slugging ave. no one has ever led in all those categories for ANY decade. EXCEPT THE DUKE.

Mantle’s first year was 1951. If you add his 1960 numbers to 1951-59 to give him ten years like Snider in 1950-1959 they have exactly the same numbers for home runs and RBIs: 320 home runs, 935 RBIs. Snider’s slugging percentage is a thousandth higher than Mantle’s. Mantle’s OPS is a little higher because he drew more bases on balls. Two great ones, and they say that the Giants’ center fielder was good too.

As great as Willie Mays was, and he definitely was that and as great as Mickey Mantle was and he undoubtedly was Duke Snider was the best center fielder long before Mantle and May's were even established in their careers. Snider's totals in those years in the 50's were unmatched. He was the Duke. RIP #4. The Hall of Fame in Heaven has a great one there, too.

Back then you could go to Yankee Stadium and see Mickey Mantle play, Go to the Polo Grounds and see Willie Mays plan and then go to Ebbets field and see Duke Snider Play. All This in one city with 3 great Centerfielders. Hard to believe.

I don’t think of him as a hall of famer. I believe he is the only hall of famer to serve time in prison Sadly. Dave kingman had more home runs You shouldn’t put somebody in hall of fame with a .249 average period.

Duke snider killed a man in a Bar room brawl. He was rumoured to be a Yankee fan He once in a drunken stupor urinated on several hall of famer shoes. He was not a very pleasant man
