Truly, i think he does get pooped on mostly for the aforementioned escapades. He was a baller and most importantly had stack and sheeds trust plus was a willing and able shooter. He was the first guy throwing lobs to vince as well paving the way for cota. Touche would throw a nice lob.
One of North Carolina greatest teams!! Rasheed was a beast...Stackhouse epic just think if they would’ve stayed 4 years and teamed up Antwan Jamison and Vince Carter!! RIP Dean Smith best coach ever
If you were in the stands that night how would you able to go to sleep after that? I would be on high adrenaline all night. This game is probably the best game ever played. The only game where two teams deserved a standing ovation from the home crowd. Amazing. Never forget this game.
SportsFan22 especially since duke was having a crappy year but all that, plus streaks and records go out the window in this series. Both squads get up for this game.
I know rasheed wallace I'm from philadelphia and he walked through my street everyday coming from simon gratz high school so proud of you sheed philly loves you✌️💪
Probably the greatest college basketball game ever, yo!!!! Stackhouse with the greatest college dunk ever, Jeff Capel with one of the greatest college shots ever, Dick Vitale losing his damn mind....I couldn't ask for anything more!!!! Lol
Haha...the best one ever? Hardly. A good classic game, but not the best. Ide say 2016 Kansas and Oklahoma. Triple overtime win by Kansas. But thats my opinion.
@@kansasjayhawk8386 Kansas vs. Oklahoma? How many people were watching that game? 5? There's no context in a KU vs. OU game. No one cares. Nothing at stake in the Big 12 so no one ever remembers any of those games. I lived in Lawrence in 2016 and I don't remember that game. This game, however, I will always remember. And I say this as a KU grad.
Still remember watching this game in my apartment. This game was nuts. Been a Duke fan since 86 but I jumped out of my chair on Stackhouse's dunk. Remember my dad calling me after Capel's shot asking "Are you watching this?" Are you kidding? I love this game and this rivalry.
Unc fan here, this was about 6th grade for me ill.never forget it either. Capels shot was literally insanity. Loved it. Sheed is my all time fav heel for this game. Never gets old even the espn2 graphics
Some of the fans from this era (the '90s) and before could teach today's kids a few things on what it means to have and show respect for the trueness of the Duke-Carolina rivalry! I've been a diehard Duke fan since the early 1980s as a grade schooler and it was appalling how obnoxious the Carolina students acted the other night during Coach K's farewell in Chapel Hill! Dick Vitale even called them out saying how classless they were and he would expect more from them! He is right on that Dean Smith would not have tolerated their behavior! But I for one am not surprised! I learned back in the late '80s after having relocated to the Charlotte metro area during my HS days how selfish and rude the majority of the Carolina fanbase were, so their students who acted that way Saturday night this past weekend were a microcosm of my memory from back in the day! There are those members of Carolina's fanbase who do act mature and show gratitude for the rivalry in not taking it for granted! But as Saturday proved their are those who paint themselves as a disgrace and shame! Their lack of appreciation for history was evident, proving they have a ton of growing up to do!
@@bradlewis6514 this is funny. duke fans have always been as classless as their foul mouthed coach. When Scott Williams suffered a family tragedy they went way past the line and showed who they are.
@Dywane Carter How can you say no chemistry for a team that never actually played together. At that time, Dean Smith was God in College basketball. They would have listened.
Bulldog Life they didn’t all listen the year before. That’s why Carolina got knocked out on the second round of the tournament because they had terrible chemistry with the 93 freshmen wanting to come in and take over immediately, and while Wallace was better than Salvadori and Stackhouse was better than Reese, Dean Smith didn’t want to forsake his seniors who had won him a national championship the year before but it created chemistry problems they never overcame and it cost them.
"I have nothing left. I'm physically, emotionally and mentally drained...I'm wiped out!" Vitale after Capel's shot. I remember this game because I couldn't watch it! This was at time when ESPN2 wasn't available where I lived! Even so, I clearly recall the highlights that night and obviously the legacy that has carried on. That was such a weird year for Duke with Coach K's leave of absence.
Lol one off year and all of a sudden it’s “this is when...” and “when the acc has monsters.” Uh, so y’all don’t remember 2018-19 when the ACC had 3 #1 seeds and Zion Williamson was in the conference?
@@lucaslarson430 you must be a young buck to even dare to make the comparison.... back in 95, the ACC had Joe Smith, TIm Duncan, Randolph Childress, among many others....
1:20:14 Carolina was up by 8 points with :23 seconds left in the first OT before the Capel shot. And then they were up by 6 points with 6 seconds left.
I saw the game live on tv and got goose bumps when Capel hit that three. Dang it, I still get goose bumps when I watch that play. 28 years later. Go Heels!!! nice shot Capel though.
1995: "Wow, what an incredible game... maybe the best ever." 2019: "Wow, what an incredible game... maybe the best ever." 3001: "Wow, what an incredible game... maybe the best ever."
I agree--at the very least it's the greatest regular season college hoops game I've ever seen! (The Pearl Washington buzzer beater against Boston College in 1984 is a very close second!)
Imagine if Stackhouse & Wallace had stayed two more seasons & teamed up with Vince Carter & Antawn Jamison. That scenerio would have been a nightmare for teams in the 96-97 season. Just something to marinade on.
i was watching that game with some other rabid tarheel fans at my place. right after that 3 pt heave, i threw my heavy boot and it knocked a large hole in my wall. a hole i had to look at for over a year before moving.
This was one of the greatest college basketball games ever...The Kentucky vs. Duke 1992 Elite Eight game ranks as #1 for me, and this is #2. Awesome game 👍
There was rioting in the streets of College Park whenever Duke and Carolina came to town!... Maryland's Chief of Police ended up losing up his job over one of those times. It was classic madness.
I was a teenager in the 90s and I would watch random games if Dick Vitale was calling the game. His energy is like nothing else. This guy bleeds college basketball.
Yes he i still good but not as good as he use to be. He was awesome in the 90's. Me and my dad loved watching his games and getting a kick out of his commentary.
My brother and I woke our parents up screaming when Capel hit that shot. I never forgot how pissed my dad was. But the next morning after he saw the highlights, he was like "Wow... what a game last night!"
Even tho this was a rare down year for Dook because Coach K being out, they got up for the Tar Heels, cause they didn’t wanna get humiliated on their home floor by their arch rivals
This team was as fun as any non Champ UNC team except maybe 2006. The Elite Eight shaming of Pitino was epic too. A legend in his own time whipping a legend in his own mind. D.Smith > pitino
Damn #Sheed would be going to the #HOF if he wasn't so unselfish, he went to the right School even though the City begged him to play for #Temple with #Eddie Jones and #Aaron Mckie. ~Chemistry and fit is everything in sports it can make or break an athlete you ever heard the word (Bust) in most cases it's not the athlete. I'm glad i saw #Sheed play in High Scool just ridiculous, he could've went straight to the #NBA if he wanted to he was just that good. #Philly #Philly !!
First time I've watched this game since it happened. Seeing it again confirms my memory that the foul called on Wallace near the end of regulation was an atrocity and that the only foul committed was by Cherokee Parks on Jerry Stackhouse. Glad the Tar Heels finally won but it need not have taken OT. That was one of the worst calls in the history of the ACC.
Look at the bottom of the video where they are showing the scores @ 22:09 it’s a heat game and then @ 22:13 it says wade didn’t play because of a sprained wrist....
Where’s Instant Replay? That Ball Was Still In His Hands When The Clock Barely Hit Zero!!!!! Why Referees, WWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYY?!!!!!!!!!! 1:25:19
This is the only proof I need to show that UNC wasn’t lucky, Dean had so many things go against them and yet still the amount of success is unbelievable.
