Hes probably beating on it because the parts are still readily available. I myself have a 79 triumph spitfire and can still get anything I need. Can get tr7 parts from the same places I get my spitfire parts.

The TR7 came out in 1975. I had a 1976 model. The last model was in 1981. The V8 version was called the TR8.

i dont think it was available in the US until 78. i was always surprised that triumph didnt make the TR8 with their OWN V8 (from the Stag etc)

@@petelattimer6808 It was available. There was a CA and a Federal version. CA model had more emissions. I had mine in Germany. It was a Federal model for use in Europe.

Triumph TR7: The Shape of Things to Come. Fun video. I remember long ago when my brother first saw my Porsche 924 (from the front 3/4 view) he said "A TR7?". I miss driving a fun little sports car.

I love that car and the review of it. I had a tr7 a few years ago but wrecked it. Now i have a 1970 triumph gt6...nice car...man thats cool to see a british car getting some love...

Enjoy that tr8. I had one and the with the strombergs in it. timing chain broke, camshaft walked back and a piston went through the block. I couldn't afford to fix it and had to let it go. I miss that car to this very day.

My Dad was a triumph guy. He had a TR7 and loved it. Nice to see Dulcich isn’t going to do anything wild to his. He is very knowledgeable.

I had a '76 TR7 Coupe back in the '90s. Mine had twin Zenith-Stromberg carbs. It was a lot of fun until the engine dropped a valve. Fun fact: The 4-cylinder engine originally came from a British tractor. There is a very interesting adaptor plate used to mate it to the transmission.

Production started in 1975 with coupes. “90” bhp when new, please note that it’s in quotes 😂. Lt77 trans. Glad you enjoyed it! Nice find!!

love it! As a Brit my only slight disappointment with Roadkill, Hot Rod Garage, Engine masters etc is that we don't get the same cars as you over here. But I had a Tr7! And I had a load of Dolomites! To hear Dulcich even mention the Dolomites got me excited 😄 And also keep in mind the Dolomites had a 16 valve version of the 2 litre slant 4 found in the TR7 and that thing had 127hp! It was considerably faster than the 2 seater sports car TR7! And of course they slot straight in to the Tr7 making a nice easy power upgrade 😎

A small number of TR 7 Sprints were made. It was the Dolomite Sprint engine. The first build of the prototype Sprint engine gave 150 bhp, so they fitted a really soft cam. It's not hard to make them sing

Unfortunately the only Triumph Saloons sold in the US were the 2000 Mk. 1 (up to 1967), one of which I used to have. The sales figures for it couldn't possibly have justified the astronomical costs of redesigning and certifying any of the large or small saloons for US sale. The deluge of regulation begun in 1968 only got worse.

I love my '77 TR7. What a fun car!! This vid shows how much fun they are. 2 liter OHC, 5-speed, dual Stromberg carbs. A recipe for fun. Great video!!

We had one of the hardtops with AC but it really bogged down the 4 banger. Removed the compressor and evaporator and installed them with a Mark IV aftermarket unit on an SS Chevelle, and that's still working 35 years later.

Nice little car. I think it'd certainly be worth some TLC. Especially since it seems to be complete and original. I'm impressed that Dulcich not only owns something like that but is actually fairly knowledgeable about its history, components, etc. It's no mid 70's Dodge after all. The many complex layers of Dulcich. Renaissance man!

Really like the style of the TR7/8 My moms summer car is a genuine TR8 with the 3.5 liter rover engine that has been converted to fuel injection and puts out around 250-275 BHP.

I had a red TR7 convertible. I babied that car in every way . Wouldn’t think of starting it without checking every fluid and tire pressure. Kept it washed and waxed and garage kept under a cover. It was a delight to drive.....when it ran. Which was about half the time. It was the only car I ever drove over 100mph. Back when I thought that was a good idea.

The TR7 was actually decent car with beautiful styling that holds up today. They did very well, if they stayed glued together on the SCCA and IMSA circuits. These cars were among the last of the last British Leland offerings. They were very complex for the time so the knuckle draggers at the corner muffler and break shop wouldn't work on em. Parts were expensive if you did find a non-brain dead to tackle it. They tended to break axles at the hub, sending your rear wheel down the median. Looks like Steve lucked out and got a good one.

I really want to add some interesting info for Dulcich. The engine is taken from SAAB. The 2 litre engine was also put in the dolomite "sprint" which was the top of the range dolomite. That engine was pumping about 130hp at the time!!

Triumph developed the 1850cc engine with sabb, both brands used it, the 2000cc tr7 was triumph specific, sabb had their own version of it. The 2000 16v was only in the dolomite sprint and a few tr rally cars. I worked on these new in uk and north America, early versions were built in Liverpool and had major quality issues

My dad has a 76 TR7. Java green I think. He bought it back in the 80s or 90s as a project because it had a pair of Weber's that came with it. I'm not sure if they started importing earlier than 78 or if somebody shipped it over but it's definitely a 76, VIN and dealer sales papers both confirm it.

Super cool! One of my neighbours in Australia had one of these and I never knew what it was but I really liked the looks of it. Wasn't until later that I discovered how many people absolutely haaaated the looks, before you ever got to how badly built a lot of the old malaise era British cars were. For my money though, I still think it's cool. 😁

I worked at 2 British car dealerships in the 70s. IlRC the TR 7 came to the USA in 75. At first we only got Coupes with a 4 speed. In 77 we got the convertibles with the 5 speed. I never saw a fuel injected version. Personally I didn't really like the looks of them but liked to drive them. The acceleration and braking were adequate and the handling was really quite good. Even now l would love to have a modified Coupe with beefed up suspension, brakes and a mild street engine.

I've probly owned 10 or 12 TR7's/TR8's since 1996. Currently own a 1979 TR7 convertible!! Nice!

The TR8 was the best of them....based on the GM 218 Cubic Inch that British Leyland acquired. Should be some parts around to hop it up a bit! Love to see the boys get into one of those!

This engine was used in the UK from 1965 until about 2006. It is the Chevy small-block of Britain. Specialists there have taken it out to 5 litres and 400 bhp.

the V8 model was called a TR8. about 10 years ago, a used car lot had a TR8 for sale.

Awesome, dude, mainly bang on, so surprised how well read on British motors you are! The only other car that had the 2.0 was the Dolomite Sprint, and that was in 16 valve form making 127bhp at 6500rpm. First 16v four cylinder in a production car and first car with alloy wheels as stock! The 8 valve in the TR7 was 105 bhp in UK trim.

I love the British sports cars. My friend liked the MGs. When he passed away, I helped his wife get them running to sell. Ended up taking his old 1975 MG Midget for a ride down the road cruising at 45 mph. What fun cars these are.

I might be in the minority, but I've always liked the wedge shaped styling of the TR7 / TR8. Most of the ones I've seen have the awesome tartan upholstery too. It sure would be nice to live somewhere where you have nothing but empty roads around you. I guess the trade off is everything is far away.

Put a sprint 16v head on it with an Eaton M45, a bloke in England has that setup on an off-road TR7, which is crazy fast and reliable.

Now if British Leyland had released the TR7 with the Rover V8 (itself a recycled buick unit) and the convertible as an option at launch then just maybe it might have saved them from the inevitable.

Thats basically what the TR8 is but it wasn't made until 3 years after the TR7 was introduced (1975 in Europe). My point was it should have happened at launch.

Theres no sign of temperature , no steam, no sign of over heating like steam, cause theirs no water to make steam and no water for the temp gauge to show anything! Only Dulcich! Luv it!

Great video. This is a fun car to drive! It is very sporty, and has a very attractive, and a unique, stylish design. If you are lucky enough to see one it is guaranteed to turn your head at least twice!

The TR7 put out 105 bhp with standard twin SU's, and 110 with the injection. The gearbowx is a 5 speed LT77, ( it didn't have overdrive ) if you have overdrive it is an old TR4 gearbox.

The car was in production before 1978. I owned a '76 and the parts store I used to go to (very often, I might add) had a few other examples of pre-1978 tr7 on the lot.

The V8s I saw were TR8 models. Never saw a TR7 with a V8. My family doctor back in the day had a TR7. Looks pretty good... Oh, BTW, the famdoc prior to the TR7 guy had 2 Cobra roadsters, a 289! that later was traded for a 427!!

They made some just for rallying that were called TR7 V8, but I don't think they were sold to the general public. The only V8 version you could buy was called TR8

Always wanted a TR8. Loved that wedge shape! They came out right after I graduated high school and I had a '67 Mustang that I wasn't willing to part with, so that never happened. That car got destroyed by a drunk semi driver in an accident I was lucky to have survived. Can only imagine what would have happened if I was in one of those Triumphs. lol

Gearbox is the Leyland Transmission LT77,used in almost every Leyland car of that era inc. range Rover from '85 on. Oly use ATF G or D2 for the gearbox and renew every 20000 km.

My Dad's older sister is a bit of a hell raiser, although she is slowing down a bit now she's past 70, and she owned two or three TR7s and a TR8. They were as rusty as a Russian submarines (the British weather and salting roads in winter rot cars) and she had them in various states of disrepair for years rusting on a driveway. In the end she got rid of them all and got a Morgan 4/4 after being on a waiting list for years but that's a different story...
