I have come to the Philippines.
After returning to the U.S. from Thailand to have hip replacement surgery, I came to the Philippines, mainly because of the ease of retirement here. My first apartment here is in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental.

Well you haven’t been in the Philippines long enough to get Vlogcited. Wait till you have been in the country a few months. Try to contact Mike and Nelly of “ Making it happen vlog, or even the vlog 8 miles from home. In addition, try to get in touch with Mark of the” Every man has a story channel. These people can actually help you with a lot of advice.

So are the women more attractive in Thailand or the Philippines!! 🇹🇭 VS 🇵🇭 (Personality & Looks)?

The slow and boring Philippines could be blamed on the poverty or the fact that almost everyone is Catholic. The lifestyle I chose (his brother) is a more domestic life; house, property, family, books,television. Peace and rest, since I spent my working life striving for better pay, benefits, promotion. Now that I don't need that, I'm happy with what I have here, and, since I'm 8 years older than him,, I just need sand, surf, sun, suds! It's how I always envisioned my retirement!

Mr. Ben I hope you are more optimistic today. However, IMO Dumaguete is NOT the place to be in the Philippines. I lived in Dumaguete/Bacong/Dauin for almost a year and it was a waste of time and money. I don't need to see and talk to a bunch of 70 something expats. Thailand for sure is much busier and more things happening than in a hole like Duma. If I may suggest try to get out of Negros and travel. Go to Mindoro, Romblon, Siquijor or Davao. The Philippines is a laid back country compared to most others, but still plenty to do and see. Best of luck getting your money out.

Hello Ben oh don't despair you will be fine you have picked a great place to be Dumaguete is lovely the Philippines is lovely I have been coming there for almost 20 years I have been all over. I bank with HSBC they are the only real world bank and I have found them very easy to deal with. I watch a sight on RU-vid her name is. Rubeauti I would really recommend her channel all very interesting stuff she is a very bright lady and she always replies to any questions . I loved the ending to your video the camera work was lovely . Good luck take care .

IMHO every expat here needs a small circle of like minded friends as a support network. This is easy to say but very hard to find as many guys here can't manage their own lives let alone be there for you if and when you need help. It's nice when you can seek advise from people who have lived here for years. Nice to see you are getting adjusted, it will take at least one year before you can start to understand the culture and rhythm of life here. So go slow, enjoy the journey and keep your expectations in line. Welcome to Dumaguete, it's not perfect but it's a wonderful place to call home.

Mr. Ben, glad to see you in the philippines. You don't seem very happy, or maybe just tired. It takes time to get accustomed to the different weather and the foods in the PI. I plan on moving there in a couple years, and dumaguete is one of my areas of interest. so is cebu .... mainly for the hospitals there and lots of expats to chat with. maybe I'll see you there.

I had been quite depressed, for a week or so before I made the video. It wasn't until I got the apartment and started getting out to explore that I started feeling better about things. I went to a wedding with a friend and met a couple of helpful Australian expats. It helped me realize how easy it can be to meet new friends here.

Ease into it, go to the coffee shops in town you'll meet some of the current expats that vlog I'm sure you know who I mean. Its nice to get a different perspective of Duma from a different person walk around and see where it takes you.

Good advice. I have visited Ground Zero a couple of times, but I didn’t see any vloggers there I recognized. I did meet a couple of Australian gentleman at a wedding reception, and they were very nice.

Way to go Mr Ben, I been coming to the PI since circa 1984. Last time was early 2020, before USA closed the gates. I also go cebu but I know Duma is nice n I been there in 1984, my X wife lives there, now we have been divorved over 20 years now, I might go back there. I have been going to cebu city, but just a little to crowded for me. But hey there 7,000 islands which I think have 5,600 islands and have people on them, so if one does not like one island,s then go to another. I think Im going to maybe try to settle in Lapu Lapu at first. I have stayed there two times around Mactown. I like swim n slow jog n Im ony 65 so, my health is good so far. Have a good time, Im in Texas now n trying to slow down my real estate business and retire. Have fun and hope to meet up soon. God Bless

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, Tex. I hope everything works out for you in Texas and you can get on with your retirement. When you get to the Philippines, I look forward to meeting you. But like you said, there are thousands of islands to choose from, so who knows where I will be living in the coming months and years? Take care.

Mr Ben, there are better areas to see and move to in Dumagete , like Valencia, Bacong, away from the crowded city and as well near too, see other vloggers living there, Mark of Every man has a story, & Paul of Old dog new tricks, Bud Brown, living since last 3=5 years, lot of out of city resorts and water falls to explore, and tour nearby islands to get a better perspective. If u have health problems, then staying in Cebu or its suburbs is the best place to get benefit of airport and city.

This type of video helps me because I am thinking of coming to Dumagete also from the UK. I am trying to learn all I can about the place. I haven't made up my mind yet. I used to have a girl there in the town. But she has since left... I hope to be there in August...I get the impression it's a quiet place with few night life type venues...am I correct? I sympathise with the occasional depression. I get it here in UK over retirement life
@MagnaManBen
@MagnaManBen 2 года назад
There are just a few nightlife venues, that’s true. Dumaguete is a “quiet” place, when it comes to trouble, but like everywhere I’ve been in the Philippines (I’ve been very few places, so far), the quietness is frequently shattered by dogs, roosters, noisy motorcycles, and karaoke parties. 😂 None of those things seems to bother me at all. 👍
@voicevoice2053
@voicevoice2053 2 года назад
@@MagnaManBen yes I have seen enough videos to indicate dogs/roosters and often noisy neighbours are the main thing there. I fear Dumaguete may be just too quiet for me. Some value that. Like a quiet seaside place here in the uk I find them boring and often lonely places to settle. You can only roam around and go to bars/restaurants a few times and repeat before you get bored I fear. Personal transport I imagine is important there as places are so far apart. I watch a few vloggers located in Dumaguete. Maybe Cebu greater area might be more suited to me? I like to live outside a large place with plenty of amenities should you want them..but not live in a busy metropolis with traffic jams and stress. Finding the balance is difficult
@MagnaManBen

You may be right about Cebu City being more what you’re looking for. After my 6-month rental agreement is up (5 more months), I will likely go somewhere else to see what it feels like. I wish you luck.

Two reasons: my visa was up, and I needed to return to the U.S. for hip replacement surgery (through the VA). I'm in Thailand, at the moment, visiting friends here, but I'll return to Dumaguete in just over a week. Thanks for asking.
