I remember Lynn's first playoffs as Bolts HC, I was extremely optimistic because he was relatively new. Then I saw him run a zone defense against the Pats, refusing to deviate from this plan at any time...and I knew that the team being there was no t due to his coaching.

Dude was one of the least prepared coaches I've ever seen. The Chargers consistently looked out-coached and under-prepared, every single year he was the head coach there. Even in the 12-4 season they looked bad, before getting embarrassed in the playoffs.

It looked like chaos because they all thought it was a first down. The replay showed enough forward progress and the spot was way off. Even the announcers were shocked.

After listening to a podcast go over Lynn talk about that play, it seems like Lynn isn't calling the plays. His OC is, without him having knowledge of the plays. As you can see on the game footage, he looks over at the OC and tells him to come over the same way one does to someone who is in trouble. He vehemently says in the post game that can't be done ever, and he isn't making an excuse or acknowledgement in relation to him. It was suggested that the OC should do his job during the week, with Lynn calling the plays. Or dare I say like the Jets where the OC calls the plays and tells the head coach, whereby the coach then calls the play. The HC then becomes essentially a play call " filter."

@@joshwilliams8032 I agree. I was just listening to Danny Woodhead talk about how things are run differently on different teams. I didn't think it was like that so much, but knowing that now, I'm just pointing out what the obvious is . . because I think many like myself are surprised Lynn WASN'T running things that way. Charger fans can thank the woke sports culture for this idiot keeping his job for as long as he did. Any coach from a certain different demographic would have been canned a year earlier. Same culture that allowed Hue Jackson to stay on as coach of the Browns after going 1-31 over a two year period.

Anthony Lynn is a 33-32 head coach with one interim win as the Bills HC. I don't think dude was necessarily a bad coach, but he wasn't a great one either. He won more playoff games than Jim Mora and Marvin Lewis combined. Wade Phillips has a worst playoff record than him. But yeah that's not one of finest hour given he lost many big leads in which cost him his job. Hopefully, he can do well in Detroit as the OC.

The run is an option just you need to spike it if u dont score and then u have 1 or 2 passes max if u want a TD b4 time expires in the half. Thats if they picked up the 1st down otherwise u need to have a second play called or rush FG unit immediately.

Robert D. When Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer fired OC DeFilippo he said that he needed someone who wanted to apply the head coach’s basic philosophy to play calling rather than seek praise of the sport media for designing & calling clever plays. I’m not saying that the Chargers OC definitely did that but we have to realize that OC Steichen was promoted to offensive coordinator by the Los Angeles Chargers after the team fired Ken Whisenhunt last year & is being praised for the success of QB Justin Herbert this year. If his running play had worked he would’ve got some media attention as a gambler. There’s many other reasons ppl make those calls but human nature can’t be discounted. 😀

@@joshwilliams8032 but it's true. That's Lynns downfall. He puts 100% trust in his coordinators. That's why he didn't know a run was going to be called. So that's his fault ultimately for not having 100% communication so that everyone is all in the same page. He wrongly assumes his coordinators are going to do the logical thing. This is also how I think they might keep Lynn ( because they like him). They replace the special teams and D coordinators, and Lynn like Gase " apparently" does is have the IC call a play THROUGH Lynn by having Lynn relay the play
@pullt
@pullt 3 года назад
Which coach calls the play is irrelevant. The head coach is responsible for the entire coaching mechanism. If a subordinate calls a bad play, it's on the head coach. Your logic is no different than just blaming the RB who couldn't get 1 yard. Or now that it's the RB's fault, he blames the o-line for poor blocking,. Now that the o-line is at fault, they blame the C or QB for not making the proper adjustment to blocking effectively. Now the QB or C blame the OC for the agreed upon keys and adjustments for the week. (Not to mention you can blame the officials for a terrible spot). Again, it comes back to the head coach who is responsible for game planning and execution of the gameplan. "The Buck Stops Here"

The offensive coordinator has to know better there. Even though the Chargers won this game, stuff such as this is why they lost so many games that season despite having a good amount of talent on hand. Those Falcons underachieved a bit due to awful decision making, too.

Anthony Lynn had a 9-7, a 12-4, a 5-11, and a 7-9 season in that span. 33 wins and 31 losses. He even won a playoff game on the road in Baltimore. I believe that he was a victim of bad luck as they lost 4 games up 16+ points, I believe he was dogged by injuries to his defense that left them vulnerable to opposing QBs and he got 7 wins out of a rookie quarterback that didn't play in the opening game. I think they could've given him another year but they didn't. The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league so he was out.
