The fact that Jim Carrey released this, Ace Ventura and the Mask in the same year is insane. That's more success than most people's entire careers combined! Jeff Daniels agent told him not to do this film because it would ruin his career....Who's Dumb or Dumber?
When they call the waitress Flo, it's a reference to an old TV show from the 1970s-80s called "Alice" that was about waitresses working in a diner. The show continued in reruns long after it ended, so the reference wasn't quite so obscure when "Dumb & Dumber" came out in 1994.
New Line was a tiny company that distributed independent films on college campuses. They became a major studio due to A Nightmare on Elm Street, and were bought by WB in 2008.
Great reactions to this fun film! If your in the mood for another hilarious older film check out "KINGPIN" from the Faralley Bros. It stars Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray! A fun and kinda raunchy comedy! I think you'll both enjoy it!
He wasn't really that famous though. Those of us who watched In Living Color were all big fans, but he was still mostly unknown to anyone who didn't watch it. It was Ace Ventura that really introduced him to the entire country and world.
9:26 Sea Bass was played by Boston Bruin hockey player Cam Neely. if memory serves some of this was filmed in Rhode Island and Boston being right next door they wanted a familiar face for locals.
one improved part, at the gas station, carrey walking out and encountering the kids, who were not part of the production at all. He starts talking to them, and they are bewildered. The awkward silence!
Here is a fun fact. Jeff Daniels is one of the worlds foremost scholars of George Washington!! He actually plays Washington in a movie called "The Crossing". It's fantastic and his portrayal of Washington is the best anyone has ever done.
I have heard half the movie was filmed just for Jim, Jeff was added in just to see how it would go because he was a serious actor. Man on the moon, and the big gulps were improvised
Terri Garr was a little more than Phoebe’s Mom. That’s why the Friends audience clapped so hard when she appeared. She starred in some major hit movies. I think you’ve seen Airplane and Young Frankenstein.
@14:19 She was in Down Periscope- wacky comedy also with the cop that drank the “beer”. But her most success was a TV show called Picket Fences. She was also married to Jim Carrey for a year.
22 Jump St and Rush Hour 2 are probably some of the best comedy sequels I can think of that are easily on-par with the originals, if not better. There are a few others, but it's certainly an extremely rare feat to achieve.
Great reaction guys. Glad to see you enjoyed the movie! I LOVED this movie when I was a child. The best part is the dream sequence by far. It has me rolling every time 🤣
Fun little fact the movie they were talking about when he said they caught up to him down the road and slit his throat was Jeff Daniels in the driver seat
10:27 the movie that Lloyd is referring to is something wild a Jeff Daniels 1986 movie and he is one who gets his throat in the movie slit but in the fight with late co Star Ray Liotta who Jeff Daniels character pulls the stunt to ray’s character who ends up finding him and another person and fights him but Jeff Daniel’s character wins at the end but if you watch it it’s something of scene
You are right. The very end with the bus they were supposed to get on and finally win in the movie. But they stayed true to their character and improved the town thing
Comedy movies that have sequels that top the original...a couple candidates come to mind. It's subject taste, but I think the Scary Movie 3, Hot Shots! Part Deux, and both the Austin Powers sequels could be argued are better than their originals.
You should watch NO LOOKING BACK. It was made a shortly after this movie, stars Lauren Holly (Mary), Edward Burns, and Jon Bon Jovi. It wasn’t successful when it came out, but it’s kinda underrated.
My brother and I love this movie and 1994 was a great year for jim carrey this and the mask and ace venture all went to number 1 making him an instant success no other actor or actress have done it before that or since
01:39 the first time I remember seeing Lauren Holly was in The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. (1990) I was smitten with her. Just do in image search from that movie of her and you'll understand why. you should be able to tell why from this movie too. (though she's four years older here. which is like twelve in Hollywood years.)
The reaction started off a little serious. I was a little worried for you but that turned out to be a pretty perfect reaction. Welcome to the club! All the cool kids love Dumb and Dumber.
The guy who plays “Sea Bass” is Cam Neely, an NHL Hall of Famer & the current president of the Boston Bruins. He was one of the best power forwards in hockey history. He was a legit ‘tough guy’. 6’1” 230lbs, but also was a great scorer. He’s a legend & he was a huge star in the NHL when this movie came out. The directors are from New England & fans of the sports teams there. So in a lot of their movies they cast pro athletes from the Boston area in small roles.
Cool reaction! You guys are great! You should consider doing 1985's "Back to the Future" and 1946's "It's a Wonderful Life". Both classics. I subscribed! Peace
I lived in Denver when they filmed this. The mountain locations, including that big white hotel, is in Estes Park. It’s the same hotel Stephen King stayed at where he supposedly came up with the idea for The Shining. There’s a lot of improv scenes, the most famous when JC is walking out of the convenience store and talks to the guys with the big gulps. They just happened to be there during the filming and the director kept it in the movie.
One of the most unique things about this movie is they are the only two comedic elements of the entire thing. Nobody else says or does anything funny. It's so weird they writers didn't even understand that when they made the sequel
It kind of reminds me of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia where the main characters are so absurd and assinine that when they use extras as "other Philadelphians" they are always extremely normal and sane by comparison. 😂
All the best sequels are old sequels. All of the sequels of the first "Wallace and Gromit" film are much better than the original. I would actually suggest that potential viewers avoid the first Wallace and Gromit film (and so begin with "The Wrong Trousers" instead). "The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear" is not necessarily better or worse than the first The Naked Gun film but it uses a different branch of humour with the first film being more serious humour (yes, I know that sounds like a paradox) and the second film being more "wacky" humour. I would also claim that "Tomorrow Never Dies" is better than "Goldeneye" (both Pierce Brosnan Jame Bond films). Arguably "Home Alone 2" is better than "Home Alone" but HA2 trades believability for humour & some viewers might find the sequel too unbelievable to enjoy. But in general, sequel films tend to be worse than the first one. (The second "Gladiator" film will be terrible.)
1. I saw this first time on a plane. I'm saying to myself that it should be, "Stupid and stupider". 2. Awesome movie. You can't watch it without enjoying yourself. 3. Too bad Jim Carrey 🤢(a rich Canadian with bodyguards) turned into an anti-gun (2nd Amendment) puke and ruined his career. 4. The "Do you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world?" was ad lib. Their reactions were real. 5. They're 12 years old, and that's ok.😏😏 6. Best lines: "I thought the Rockies would be a little rockier than this". "That John Denver's full of shit man" 🤣 and "We landed on the moon"!🤣
Who cares? Everyone looks the way they do, no one is obligated to go workout in a gym 4 days a week. Set your own standards, don't enforce it on others bozo.
