I literally feel you sooo much I speak portuguese (pt) and german, so I constantly switch between both. And then I started to learn english in school, japanese for fun and spanish in school, which I already understood like 65% from because of speaking portuguese and having some cousins that speak spanish...my brain is a mess....and when I'm alone I jump through every language I know being like "何それ? Wtf are you doing? PORQUÊ!?" but like in 5 languages... soo yeah I feel you... And forgetting one word in fucking 1-3 languages and then suddenly remembering it in the few languages I don't need rn is the worst feeling ever...

I speak (native) German, English, Spanish and some very rusty French. I've also been learning Japanese for fun. The most annoying bilingual problem really is forgetting words in the language you need. It happens way too often that I accidentally use English words or sentence structures while speaking German. And I constantly remember my French vocabulary before the Spanish one that I actually need, even though I haven't spoken French in years. Why.

A super dumb bilingual problem? I'm french, but pretty early I started getting used to english through games and funny videos, to a point today I can confidently say I'm bilingual (or close to it) THE PROBLEM I sometimes...... forget FRENCH words, or get confused with some english words when speaking french, and it lead to awkward (but harmless) situations. That is literally me. I speak 3 languages fluently and am in the process of learning French, and sometimes my thoughts are a hideous concoction of multiple languages. I lived in Georgia my whole life, go to a Georgian school, talk to my family in Russian, and primarily use the internet in English. Sometimes I just want to say something in X language, but instead of remembering a word in that language, for some reason, my brain decides to give me the word in another language and refuse to elaborate, sometimes leaving me unable to formulate a discernible point. “როგორ მიყვარს მე ჩემი სამშობლოს ჰიმნი, იმედია მე BIASED არ ვარ” It’s such an inconvenience, oh my goodness. I hope I am not the only one with this problem. 😂 Sometimes I am being left to wonder what language I THINK in by default. Because whenever I think about it too much I switch to English for some reason. For now I just say that when I talk in English, I think in English, when I talk in Russian, I think in Russian, etc. If you read the entirety of my rant, I am very thankful to you. That’s all I had to say. Bye! o/ Hdjusgebisygvrtifisgvwhfixywv❤🎉

I’m bilingual because I’m mixed race (Latino dad and British mum) so I’m able to speak English and Spanish. The thing is because I grew up in the UK, I’m fluent in English but not Spanish. This makes things awkward when my friend asks me to translate small Spanish things into English (stuff like chat messages from Spanish Roblox players) because I only understand half of what he wants translated. Oh and my default answer to “Say something in Spanish” is “Que tipo de música escuchas?” which means “What type of music do you listen to?” One time a classmate asked if I could translate an *Indian* song because he knew I could speak another language which baffled me. Like just because I’m not white doesn’t mean I speak every language on earth 😡 Also I would call my mum “mummy” and my dad “Papi” as a kid because of my mixed heritage 😊

Growing up knowing only English was so difficult (i was actually supposed to know 4 FREAKING LANGUAGES) especially in school i remember CRYING DAILY because i never knew swahili and wondering why was I never taught it :( my teachers only made it difficult since they teach at the level everyone else was meanwhile i didnt even know basic words. I remember being asked "do you speak swahili/mother tongue/father tongue" and it WAS SO EMBARASSING the fact that i kept saying no. I have been learning swahili PROPERLY (i was learning it before but not PROPERLY OKAY) for the past 6 months and i have NEVER BEEN SO FLUENT even my parents were surprised. omw to being bilingual now 😍 and going to learn my mother and father tongue cuz i NEED to use my potential....

I'm also from Brazil, but i use english so often on the internet that i, _quite literally,_ think in english. So, instead of saying "porquê?", i say "why?" (in my brain, in real life i do speak portuguese). But then, inside of Brazil, i also have a little somthing: my accent is a weird in-between of the carioca and gaúcho speech (from Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul, respectively). And when i'm in either place, people just notice the other part of it

As a Russian, I don't talk with people much irl and watch a LOT of English content, so now I've reached the point when I'm just forgetting some of my native language's phrases and instead try and directly translate English ones which ALWAYS turns out awkward. Being bilingual is great and everything, but when it sucks it really sucks
@Kikuo4Lifeqwp
@Kikuo4Lifeqwp 7 дней назад
I've reached a point where I either switch languages while talking to someone (if I'm distracted) OR I just speak in a language that they don't even understand because I forgot that I'm the only one there that speaks it. While it can be a bit embarrassing, it's funny and motivates me to keep learning, since it proves that I'm getting better at the language. Extra note: No final do vídeo, tu falou "I can't breath". "breath" é o substantivo, "respiração" ou "fôlego", já o verbo é "breathe". Os dois podem ser usados com o mesmo significado, tipo "I'm out of breath" ou "I can't breathe" (nem sempre significam a mesma coisa, depende do contexto). Do jeito que você usou, ficou tipo "eu não consigo respiração". Eu sei que sou chato, mas queria corrigir esse erro que eu mesmo já cometi várias e várias vezes.

2:14 Speaking of which that reminds me of a family story. My dad said that whenever his cousins from Germany would come over to America when he was a kid, they would all go the local German restaurant and decide to troll the wait staff. They would turn around, and just say the foulest, most insulting sentences in German imaginable and the waiters would just go "Mmmhmmm, yeahhhhh, thank youuuu." And they would just be drinking and acting like this was the funniest thing ever. I'm not going to go into detail on what they actually said because I don't know what type of audience this channel is trying to attract.

Portuguese and Japanese, no way! A couple years ago I had many Brazilian friends and decided to learn the language, had a lot of fun and became "conversational with help", the point of "i can read just fine and understand most of what you're texting but my responses are slow/ungrammatical so far" and similar speaking/listening-wise. I kinda slowed down on it as those friendships not exactly fizzled but became a little distant and far inbetween. Now I am learning Japanese for fun and Spanish (sorta) for work (and also fun) but I keep trying to say random Portuguese phrases/words in both languages PLUS in English. 😭 At least I can say pan and パン. 🍞 I have many Spanish speaking coworkers, both mono and bilingual, and many customers coming in asking for help in Spanish, so I want to be able to communicate with them all but I have to stop myself repeatedly from greeting them with "bom dia!" when I come in. And many times I forget if one word is similar or the same in both languages, or if I'm making stuff up and they wouldn't understand what I'm asking. 😂 The Brazil mind virus is real guys.
@poppyalt7427

Fun part now is that I will be watching a study or just interesting video about Japanese struggling to slowly put the pieces together, and find a comment in Portuguese, a language I have barely touched in over a year, and be able to read it fast and understand it even if there's a few words I don't recognize. It's probably the script being similar to English but you have got to be kidding me lol it's the funniest thing. I really should pick it back up for fun but if I'm also learning Spanish now it's a bit ..difficult to separate the two. Again I don't want to say bom dia every time I see a Hispanic coworker when I come in, I do not want that to come off the wrong way!! (Tho I know we'd just have a laugh about it) I do remember one of my best friends, who natively speaks Spanish, speaking to me in only Spanish the whole morning and I, confused and jokingly, spoke back in Portuguese the whole time. We understood each other just fine until I realized it was April 1st and they were screwing with me as a prank. 💀 THAT's the scary part of learning two very similar languages imo lol.
