Another trip to the Dumont Dunes completed. A few broken parts and a few broken bones to come home with but all in all it was a great trip with family and friends. Had a blast racing up comp hill, riding in circles in the Super Bowl and checking out whats new at the polls. Unfortunately our camp had two bad accidents on the second day that where not captured on film. A Razor was flipped 3 times with only bruises to the driver and I was kicked of my bike due to the front tire digging into soft sand causing 3 breaks and shattered bones in my clavicle when I hit the hard packed sand. But we all survived Dumont to prepare for next years trip. We will see you soon Dumont!!!!!
A special thanks to our friend Tori Gillam for providing the music to the video.

Some claim the dumont dunes is the top rated riding area for sand in the state and mabe even the nation. If you know of any other place that would compare please comment below. But for me - this is my favorite sand box.
At the Dumont Dunes you can
1. Ride the sand all day making endless circles in the super bowl
2. Climbing up steep sand dunes just to ride the razor backs on top
3. Pick a race at comp hill ( Competition Hill )
4. Adventure out to find the North and South Pole and see what has been left from previous visitors.
5. Ride off into the desert and explore old mine sights
6. Ride into the wilderness on OHV maintained trails.
7. Supervise the kids as the race around the sand race track near camp.

The Dumont Dunes Off -Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area, also referred to as an Open Area, is an exciting and remote area for OHV recreation. A favorite location among OHV enthusiasts, the dunes also offer fabulous scenery and opportunities for solitude.
The Dumont Dunes is an area of the Mojave Desert containing large sand dunes, located approximately 31 miles north of Baker, California on California State Route 127. Bordered by steep volcanic hills and the slow running Amargosa River, the region is easily recognized from a distance by its distinctive sand dunes.
This popular desert area offers 8,150 acres of dunes and open sand riding. The elevation here varies from 700 feet, at the river, to 1200 feet at the top of Competition Hill, the tallest of the dunes. The main dunes are very tall and steep and may require big horsepower and sand tires but the smaller dunes next to the highway are ideal for beginners.
Most of the dunes are incorporated in the Dumont Dunes Off-Highway Vehicle Area, which is administered by the Bureau of Land Management as a recreational area for off-road vehicle sports, hiking, camping, rock climbing, and rock collecting.Three neighboring sand dune systems are the Valjean Dunes to the east, Little Dumont Dunes to the west and Ibex Dunes located within Death Valley National Park.
The area is hot and arid, with summer high temperatures ranging from 100 to 120 degrees F. Winter low temperatures may drop below freezing with highs in the 70's. Typical of the desert, winds are frequent and strong, and humidity is generally low. The vegetation here consists of creosote scrub, some annual grasses, and wildflowers in the spring.
Primitive camping is permitted almost anywhere on the flats and only amenities are vault toilets so at the very least, bring your own water and snacks. Food, fuel and most necessities are available in Baker, Shoshone, and Pahrump, NV. Cellular phone service is intermittent at Dumont Dunes and is not reliable in all locations.
- - - Directions to Dumont Dunes - - - -
Take Interstate 15 to Baker, CA then north on Highway 127 for 33 miles.
A roughly 2 mile straight wide dirt/gravel road will take you across a small stream and past a Ranger Information/Pay station,
and then up a plateau to the camping area. The riding area is south of the Amargosa River and east of State Highway 127, about 31 miles north of Baker, California, off Highway 127, is Dumont Road, a dirt road which follows and crosses the river, leading to the main field of large dunes.
