As you say in “profit” to consider a true profit remove cost of the operation of the truck as in payments, insurance and maintenance, not just fuel. Then factor cost of the trailer. As you stated you have these paid but the initial cost still remains for an upstart, then any insurance and if your local municipality requires a license to operate the business. Add together then subtract costs this would then become the true profit margin. Definitely a good days wage. The upstart costs is where I’m at been doing the math and making the connections, so far I have a few very good leads and chasing down the dollar for the equipment. It’s a challenge but I see the worth behind it.
Very good points indeed. I should have clarified and said gross profit, not net since that would take into consideration my fixed costs such as equipment, licensing, and insurance. I think it is worth it!
Great Job! Foreclosure trash outs were huge about 10 years ago. The foreclosure market will come back, unfortunately, and you will be set for business. I've done hundreds of them and most of them make me sad but make me money!
Sir a super cool and fast way to do trash outs is with canvas drop cloth and have have hand loop sewn on each corner it will quadruple your labor saving
Awesome, thanks! First job took a week or two to book. It was friends and family first, then once I built up google reviews we started getting more organic work. Good luck!
Usually it is an all-inclusive price. Unless I rent the trailer out as a dumpster and then I allow for 1 ton, anything over I charge the customer overage fees.
Why dont you junk removal guys ever take in scrap metal. You had more than enough for a full load. It free money and you dont have as many dump fees with the other stuff. Id like to hear one actually good reason for not going to the scrap yard.
Short answer is time. My nearest scrap yard is 30 minute drive plus I have to separate it all and sort it, build up enough to make it worth a trip. By that time what they pay is not worth it for me right now. One day I plan to have a separate scrap pile or bin I will fill over time and make a trip once it’s full, but for now I don’t have the space for that.
