In a nutshell, I ‘m an avid dumpster diver, scrapper, picker, treasure hunter and underwater connoisseur. I prowl the city streets in search of dumpster loot, curbside treasures & scrap metal as well as scour the river bottoms for lost valuables during the summer months when I can scrounge up enough money for gas. Nice haul Mike! Thanks for taking us along and giving us a bit of the reality of all you do.I had to smile when you mentioned going to see Billy Joel. Back in the late 90s my ex and I went to see him in concert. We had ground floor seats. Picture this…. All the seats in our section were on a flat floor. Not stair stepped so the folks in front of you are lower like in the seats built into the walls. I’m 5 feet tall. Everyone on the ground floor stood on their seats. I never saw Billy Joel. Not even a glimpse! All I saw was everyone’s ass! LOL I gave up after a while, sat down and just listened. Lesson learned! No more ground floor seats.

Mike I don't scrap like you do for a living. I check dumpsters, curbside piles, & ask folks that are moving out of their homes, for electronics. PCs, laptops, Chromebooks, other cables, chargers, etc. To tinker with them, repair, & when possible, rebuild. The finds are few, as I don't have all day to cruise around my town looking. I wish like every other time I go out I would find something worthwhile, to me! Thanks for the great videos & finding what you are looking for to earn a living. Give your family a hello from NC & give your new pooches a treat! 🤓 Yes scrapping is hard work.

Hey, finally someone talked about die cast! I've been trying to figure out how to sort that from regular aluminum. Some people keep calling it "zinc," others call it "die cast," "pot metal," or some other variation of cast aluminum.

We just closed down a business and threw out 7 perfectly usable filing cabinets. Tried to virtually give them away for $5-10 each and no one showed any interest so unfortunately had to call up the scrapman to pick them up.

It would be interesting to see the total weight you scrapped at the end of this year. You should do a contest and see who can guess the closest, winner gets something cool you found in the trash. Scrapping to get every dime out of the dumpster treasure is A LOT of work. I would break everything down and separate it like you do and I know how tedious that stuff can get. I was even unwinding the copper transistors on electronic scrap.

You need to give the company your card. That way when they have a big haul they can just text you they are next to the dumpster and you can pick them up. It would save both you and them time and money. I had a card from my junk guy and I just let him know when I had a lot of scrap on the curb.
