WHEN DUMPSTER DIVING ANYTHIING IS POSSIBLE AND YOU CAN FIND ALL SORTS OF ITEMS THROWN AWAY. SOMETIMES THEY ARE LITTLE SCORES AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE BIG. SOMETIMES THE ITEMS ARE BRAND NEW AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE USED. ITS ALL JUST LUCK AT THE END OF THE DAY.

When i worked on the railways, quite often the stuff binned by m& s on a friday had a longer shelf life than that which i had bought round the corner. One weekend i saved 48 pints of milk, all in date. Everybody who did a weekend shift took home average 4 pints each.

I used to work in retail and the problem is the fridges normally fail overnight then heat up quickly so disposal is the only option without giving customers food poisoning

I used to work for WH Smith and I'd open sometimes and also close the shop most times. the amount of food waste ( Sandwiches especially) was nuts we threw away literall black bin bags full of sandwiches ( I worked in a rail station Smiths ) such a waste could have been given to the homless they'd have been perfectly edible the next day. I worked there for 2 years and must have thrown out thousands of perfectly edible sandwiches which the homless could have certainly used.

You could give them to the homeless, it's true. But ... if one of them got sick from a bad sandwich, Smith's would get sued. They'd rather waste the food than be constantly in court defending their charity. It's sad, but it's life.

My mum volunteers and runs a community foodbank and the local supermarkets are pretty good especially Morisons, always have a trolley full for them and if any fridges go out they are straight on the phone! even greggs allow them to collect pastries and deli items weekly!

Next time you are wondering if yoghurt's OK remember it's gone off milk basically , it's only when it's fizzy that it's a problem and you'd be able to tell cause it will expand. The cream you could whisk in to butter and freeze if you have to much . Love to you all from the skipping fairy 🧚‍♂️ x

Shame the sugar bags were damaged as you wouldn't have had to buy sugar for a while. The upcoming ban on disposable vapes may be the reason they were in the bin or just damaged packaging. The chilled stuff would have been deemed no good as soon as they realised the chillers were out, shame though as the double cream could've been turned into homemade butter, the daffodils looked lovely xx

That yogurt thing is bonkers. Yes if the fridge went out at midnight and no one had a clue till they got in in the morning fine, but that still begs the question of have they disposed of it all properly considering there is a ton of recyclable material there.

you should bring duct tape to your next finds, especially the sugar bags, so you can seal the patches on the bag and have the remaining sugar, and it wont make a mess in your car.

The expiry date is for the use of the shop retail. However they don't actually go off unless opened.

I used to work for Iceland they are usually pretty hot on waste I'm quite surprised by all them vapes. If we had fridges out wed either put it in the main chiller if not it woukd go in the delivery van toanother store that had the space or if it wasnt going to be long for a fix just store it in the van.

Amazing work as ever. Just a thought have you considered running your van on veg oil? I think it might be old enough to be able to and is much cheaper than diesel. Think you can do about 20k a year as well. Just a thought.

those green bins full of chilled items, most likely from a fridge failure. Someone should be sacked on the spot. Fridges like that have temperature alarms. Just share the afected content around other fridges. Or like you say why can't a foodbank or charity have them
