Hi Mike, love your video's, the others I see all seem to have unlimited funds and just go buy stuff, that's not my world, I'm a regular guy like yourself and life can be a struggle and that's why I think your the best and most entertaining and the most honest fella. Let's face it everything is a gamble but you just have the spark of imagination to work things out. Much better than seeing a brand new bit of machinery just roll up, it maybe easy but there's no story and the satisfaction of seeing you fix and complete stuff really floats my boat, keep on doing what your doing and good luck definitely my favourite u tuber.👍.

Oh Mike I’m so sorry, for the problems your having on your truck build, I don’t think the company you bought it from, was too honest about what was wrong with this truck. I believe there’s a lot more reasons why this truck was taken out of use for them!!! I had a motorhome that was picky about starting and took all joy out of travel. It had a carburetor and I couldn't find a mechanic that knew how to work on it. I feel your pain.
Hey Captain most PTO setups require the transmission to be in neutral to smoothly engage them. That said besides the PTO issue what else is keeping that truck from being a driver? Since the master cylinder did not have caps on the reservoir you should see if the bleeders are free and if so siphone the fluid out of the reservoir and bleed the brakes until clean fluid comes out because the fluid in the reservoir/system is contaminated with water
Hang in there Mike, I know it’s disappointing but you have the ability to get it done, just not now. Work your plan, you have other options I would bet, stay the course, you will end up with a decent truck in the long run. Thanks for the update, enjoyed the video and shared your disappointment.

I would suggest a compression test and cylinder leak down test to gauge the health of the engine. I know you will get it figured out . Keep up the good work Bud. 🚛⚓️
Captain sounds like your PTO is not engaging deep enough into the transmission drive gear , I have a F-600 with a pto driven pump that requires me to depress the clutch prior to engaging the pto while transmission is in neutral then once engaged release the clutch to raise bed. Sure that you will figure it out. Enjoy your content , keep it up.

Probably need to do a tune up on it. Better the points are bad and the carb needs cleaning. Easy, quick jobs. As for the PTO, I would say a new cable will help a lot. Thanks for sharing.
I got the perfect idea for the junk truck..... Once a year up in Alaska they launched all kind of vehicles off of this big giant Hill... you should document a road trip up there, and then enlisted in the launchings of the vehicles off the cliff and document it all,😃

Mike find you a old 12v cummins and throw in there . They were common in those trucks. Just buy an old school bus for a donor with a good 12v so it will have air compressor for the brakes and use transmission and all.. dont get an automatic .. could also go with dt366 or dt466 both excellent engines
I'm in the process of buying a truck to put a dump kit on, but it's more of a turn-key option with a much higher budget. As fun (?) as it would be to do all the work you're going through, I don't have the time or energy. But I really like your videos.
Flip the visor down, every dump truck I’ve ever owned had pto and lift instructions printed on the visor. It may need to be put in neutral being an auto trans.
The best way I have found to get Radiator hoses on is a little smear of dish washing liquid inside , When it dry's out will give a bit more of a seal .

im doin ok captain i got some work done on my 88 4runner getting the grill tab holes fixed on the 90 front core which wasnt meant to fit an 88 grill but it does now i had to weld up some spots that were too weak to hold the grill an added a bit of weld to a couple spots that got too big so the clips have something to hold thank you for asking!

Find one of your emblems, notice the ring around the emblem, enen Ford knew to circle the problems... LOL 😂 Sounds like the hydraulic pump is locked up.
Dad had truck just like it and the problem with it was points in disturber junk!! Even newe points didn’t work had to put in electronic point and boom runs just fine now 😊

Not sure about your truck does but I had to have to engage the clutch to lock in the PTO for the hydraulic dump bed. Just like putting a transmission in gear. We had two cable pulls. One controlled flow and the other engaged the transmission drive for the pump.
Mike- anything that I’ve ever driven with a PTO wants to have the clutch pushed in before engaging it. Iffn ya put the transmission in gear prior, it stops the gears from grinding..which is basically bad. Next time you could try my version? Just passing along my experience (s) Smoking is dissipating, no rattling or knocking, might be a diamond that just needs polishing 😊

Hi Mike. Nice repair of that bracket with a speed binder. I once fixed the step bumper on my truck with a forklift after some guy ran into me. Does the trans need to be in neutral maybe before engaging the PTO? Hope it's something simple. It looked like the bed was starting to dump before you added fluid.
Mike, I don't quite understand what happened to the truck. Did the engine blow? If so, it was a gamble, Mike. Win some lose some. Your win side of the ledger is far longer than the lose side. Oh I’ve heard that sound before! That’s the precursor to the engine getting new ventilation holes in the side of the block! Hopefully you can just do a ring and bearing job and not have to get it line bored and all that. Fun times playing with junk!
You put oil in the cylinders, then pumped that oil out. Some of that oil was pumped into the exhaust and some onto the manifolds. It will take some time to burn it off.
The missing broken coolant reservoir was a huge red flag to me and the coolant hose just added to my concerns. It may have ran when parked, after it overheated. The engine did not sound good when it was running, and I'm afraid that sitting for a long time didn't help the damage that was done. I just hope the heads aren't warped. And there clearly is an issue with the PTO and dump system. Well, at least there will be content for an engine swap or engine rebuild, as well as fixing the hydraulic system.
There was a reason why it was parked 😂 Those year Ford F600/700 were a nightmare if you have juice brakes. They are Lucas girling braking system can you say expensive 😂 The bed is worth some money it appears to be in decent shape. You’ve got a project there I’d take the bed off scrap the rest.
Good thing you paid for that 50/50 warranty . If it breaks in half , you can keep BOTH pieces . Oh well , not exactly a big win , but , not a COMPLETE loss , just some extra content later .
Hey, don't give up just yet. Stall the torque convertor by putting it in gear and holding the brakes, then engage the PTO. Now, shift the tranny into neutral and idle up the engine (1,000 - 1,200 rpm) and raise the bed. You were almost there, ya just didn't know the method for engaging the PTO on an automatic.

Hey Mike, on anything with a PTO, you usually have to put the clutch in (if it is a standard) or in neutral to engage the PTO... then activate the hydraulics for the bed... I did not look in your video to see if it is a manual or automatic. It appears that it works though!
I'm a little confused about the comment near the end about having to rebuild the engine. I went back and listed to the end three times, but maybe I missed something. All I heard was the awful grinding sound of the PTO trying to engage. I looked through the comments and a few may be helpful, but it seems a number of people missed the fact that this truck has an automatic transmission (no clutch pedal to push). My 1993 F600 has an Allison AT545, which is what I'm guessing yours has. Is the PTO on the transmission or the engine (the engine mounted seems more rare, but sometimes more common on a chassis that was converted later in life)? Mine has the PTO mounted on the right side of the transmission, and it's activated by a switch in the console inside and a solenoid mounted on the left back side of the transmission. I'm not sure if mine is hydraulic or vacuum operated, but what appears to be low pressure hydraulic lines run from the solenoid to the PTO to activate it. There are straight mechanical versions which yours appeared to be. I can engage the PTO with the engine in neutral at idle with absolutely no grinding. The PTO stops working if I put the transmission in gear (R or any forward position), but I have not tried moving with it engaged to see if it works then. The Ford service manual is absolutely no help on the Allison transmissions - you'll need the Allison transmission service manual if you want to know anything useful about it. Someone suggested the hydraulic pump might be locked up although it seemed to work the first time you tried it - still this is probably worth checking before trying to engage the PTO again to avoid potential damage to the PTO or the transmission (assuming that's where your PTO is). If the pump turns okay, then you might try what some have suggested by having the transmission in gear (R or any forward gear) with the vehicle stopped. It makes some sense that this might result in the gear that drives the PTO being stopped. After it's engage, you can move the transmission back to neutral. You might check the linkage/cable that operates the PTO assuming yours is mechanical just to make sure it moves it far enough to fully engage. I hope it's something simple and easy to fix, and wish I could be more help. Maybe Wes from Watch Wes Work will comment and provide some advice.
@@CaptainKleeman I went back and listened to it again, and I still couldn't tell for sure what happened. I thought maybe the PTO stalled the engine out. One thing I noticed in going back over the video was the fuel level - mine won't run with the gage that close to empty. I was using it to haul some dirt down in one of my fields and it was above the empty mark at least a needle width, then it started to die depending on how the truck was leaning. I had to walk back and get a gas can to get it back to the house. Seems like it gets sketchy at anything below 1/8 of a tank. Hope it's something simple you can fix cheaply and quickly.
