From an Arsenal fan. The things you hear about Duncan Edwards makes it pretty painful to think just what might have been. That bit at the end "he could break a team single-handed" is really touching. I read a quote from Bobby Moore in his autobiography saying "I once played truant from school to watch Duncan play at White Hart Lane. There will never be another player like him.". I think coming from a legend like Moore, it speaks volumes for who Edwards was. R.I.P.
I am a Man City fan, but think Duncan Edwards was amazing. You can only imagine how dominant England could have been had he lived, would have maybe won more World Cup's than just 1966. RIP
Great video, People have told me he was the best player to ever touch a football. The Munich Air Crash was unfortunate, RIP to all the fallen. Once again thank you.
R.I.P. Duncan Edwards, you were taken from us far too early, as were the others who died in Munich. I'm sure had it never happened United would be on 25-30 league titles and 8 or 9 european cups by now.
Edwards' impact as a powerful runner and his effectiveness at just smashing straight rhrough opposition players w/the ball at his feet should be mentioned as well.
He said they were different types of players both brilliant in there own way, it was so sad when Duncan died. I have seen some of the clips on Duncan and yes he did look special.
My grandad (who is from the same area as Duncan was) told me he once saw him play as a schoolboy in Halesowen. He said he was miles above the rest of the other players, in skill and in size.
I am a real MUFC fan, since the day i started playing Football. Haha. R.I.P Duncan Edwards, & the rest of the Busby Babes. God bless. Now let's win UEFA Champions League MUFC! For the Busby Babes!
I was too young to see Duncan. But I vividly remember Gerald Sinstadt saying of a 17 year old Wayne Rooney. "He is the best young English footballer I have seen since Duncan Edwards. Of course I knew through reading about him and older players talking about him that he was a great player. RIP.
My Grandad my moms father knew him. My grandad was 3 years older and remembers him growing up as kids in Dudley. He didn't know him that well but knew him enough to talk to, and it was obvious from a young age he was gonna be special!!! He would of been England's finest player!!!!
Many respected legends of football have stated that he was the greatest player they had ever seen. You need say no more. Legend and true gent, what a loss to those that never had the privilege of seeing him fulfill his promise. R.I.P Duncan
one of the best talents in the world, im a boro fan but my dad said he was amazing, and all the people you hear talk about him and the videos you see of him i think he could of been englands greatest player off all time possibly in the worl god blees you duncan edwards R.I.P (from a boro fan and a fan of great players)
I'm a truly devoted life-long Newcastle United fan, but I will pay my respect to this brilliant team, those fenomenous football players and manager, they were truly and without doubt the best team England has ever seen and probably will seen!! R.I.P Busby-Babes!!
A real shame so little footage of him playing exists, before my time so never got to see him play live, but a few guys I know who did say to a man there has never been a better player. That is some true god given talent, LFC fan.
Duncan Edwards already achieved a lot in football when he sadly passed away at 21. He had already won 2 English Premier league titles (or the equivalent for that time) with Man Utd plus reached an FA Cup final, reached 2 European Cup Semi-finals plus had won 18 caps for England which included scoring 5 goals for England also!!
Feb 1958 Manchester mourned the tragic loss of the greatest football players ever to grace a football field. They were young men who played the game with skill, determination and honesty making those who watched them (then and now) proud to be fans of the greatest club in the world. They will live forever in the hearts of true reds and their presence is felt at every game MUFC play. RIP to the babes we think of you everyday Manchester is still heartbroken at the loss of our boys.
aye i work with an almost 65year old bolton fan who has seen them all and he says better than anyone he has ever seen...the complete player. what harry gregg said about having keane's tackle, scholes' pass, vidic's power in the air and rooney's power on the shot and still not close is exactly what he says...would have been a joy to watch! RIP lad. NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
Big Duncan, the best footballer ever to grace the worlds pitches, the black country giant, I can still see him in that famous red and white kit, playing against Wolves the very first match I went to, went in to support my home club and came out a United fan and all because of this giant of a boy, RIP Duncan and thanks for all the pleasure you gave.
you can just see from his build - look how big and muscular his legs were. And this isnt something weights can get you - it is a natural build. And this is on a friggin 21 year old and hes huge. No wonder he was class
devilinred I was privelaged to see Ducan a number of times before going overseas in the forces. Brilliant is not the word, he is a legend that every footballer should be told about. I was in Hong Kong at the time of the air disaster, the whole of the squadron were stunned. We were given the rest of the day off to pay our tributes to this wonder of the footballing world. Rest in peace Duncan, we will always think of you every time that Manchester United take to the field.
From what I have read he was a fantastic athlete, sometimes playing for the youth team in the morning and the senior team in the afternoon. He must have been truely awesome
Well said. Duncan Edwards was a man of immense talent. He (and anyone else) should not be defined by the colour of the shirt he wore. A player AND a gentleman. xx
Massive tribute to the guy, who was taken away so soon and yet was already held in the highest regard. So many years later, we find ourselves watching things like this, in utter respect.
Lovely video and its nice for him to be remembered.I have been a Man Utd fan all of my life and had never really seen any footage of this great player. Its easy to think that most of the greats come from the more modern game, but after hearing some of things about Duncan its so tragic that he never got to really show the world what he could do. On another note and with no disrespect, I cant help but see a resemblance (face that is) to Steven Gerard. Just look at 2:45!
Such a shame we never got to see the player he could have become. He was basically England's Pele, Maradona or Cruyff. A one in a lifetime player. R.I.P.
I'm not an United fan in no sense of the word, but I with that I could've watched the Babes play, such a tragedy. Makes United's success afterwards even more incredible. The Babes truly put the word 'beautiful' in the beautiful game
-----example he is to all footballers! 50 years on his legacy continues that says sooo much!! :) and what a physique :O never seen anyone quite like that quite amazing! what a treasure of english football and like the song goes live forever, forever young!!! r.i.p dear Duncan x
so talented and yet the career was ended so soon. Many people say that if duncan edwards was to live we would of won the world cup a few more times R.I.P Busby Babes and Duncan edwards one of the best player who has ever lived.
what a wonderful signature he had :) im so intrigued about this guy he obviously was very special you can tell from how everyone ever associated with him speaks of him, but just to see him :) you can tell he was very special :) such a terrible terrible tragedy it makes me sooo sad and me wonder why! but at least we have some clips!!! just to see him he is an inpsiration for his manner his wonderful pure talent and how he played with a wonderful temperament, and courage, what an excellent----
thetoon99 i agree with you all like charlton said you have law, best, cantona, giggs, but forget them the best player ive ever seen is duncan a complete player
