What I like about this scene is that the Sandworm seems to understand that something is forcibly prying open its scale, and makes an active attempt to try and get rid of it by making a wild swing to the other side and slamming through several dunes, before giving up and spinning so that scale is up and away from exposure to the sands on either side. Compare that to the original movie, where it simply accepts the fact that something wrong happened to its scale and doesn't make even a token attempt at removing the obstruction.
Great edit, the extra background track during the Worm luring prep cutting away to complete silence as the camera focused on Chani's shocked/ concerned face when the giant worm emerges was 🔥
Just to clarify, there won't be a part 3. Part 3 will actually be the 2nd movie….. Dune Messiah Because of immense universe of the books there has to be 2 parts (movies) for each book. Another thing for you guys who haven't read the books…… Paul isn't the main character of the story. His son Leto II will be the main character
looking forward to where they go with the original source material. I came to Dune through the Lynch Film, then Villeneuve's first film. Subsequently watched the Children of Dune & Messiah available on Prime and have thoroughly enjoyed all versions. I'm now reading through the books and they are magnificent, probably the most enjoyable medium of all to experience the Dune Universe as they contain so much more.
It is incredible with those scenes that many of us have been able to deduce that the sandworm rotates to try to close the scales that open in its skin with the hooks.
Shai Hulud: Hello, You must be Paul.... I'll be your Wuber driver today. Paul: Yes, Thank you.... Shai Hulud: Will be paying by Credit Card or Saudakar? Paul: By Saudakar. Just keep going until you see a floating sphere.
Have not seen the new version yet but the maker hook in the old version looked exactly as described in the book. Enough for the sand to bother the tender insides of the worm. In like the thumpers better in the old version.
all Fremen, usually by the age of 12 undergo a rite of passage wherein they ride a Sandworm. Paul does it so he will be fully assimilated into the tribe. The fact that one of the biggest Sandworms answers his thumper call adds a degree of prophetic implication among the people that Paul is indeed someone special
After watching Part 2 -- I'm so disappointed in both films. I withheld judgment of this project until they finished it. Ya, they screwed this story up so bad... Did any of these people read the book? I seriously doubt it.
Unfortunately this is the case of the vast majority of films based on a direct literary source. Very few films achieve that original resonance, maybe due to the fact that it is a far different medium communicating the ideas, narrative and imagery. When reading the internal theatre of the mind and imagination are engaged creating a deeper more personal experience and perception. It is probably best to treat them as two separate and diverse approaches/ experiences which can be valued/ evaluated for what they bring and judged against peers in the same medium, by that standard the film is very good among a sea of dross sci-fi spectaculars.
@@enochroot9438 I agree and disagree... When they announced that there was going to be a remake, I dug up my old tattered copy of Dune and reread the book. Also, spend a few hours watching the 1984 version again. Deviating from the story for technical reasons, meh... it happens. However, when they decide to completely bastardize so many parts of the actual story... I was offended... just as much as if someone came along and decided to improve the Mona LIsa with a bit of lipstick. I could rant for hours all the things they did poorly or wrong, what would be the point? Won't fix it, or change what is done.
@@Navschannel3908 which is why it is best taken as a separate creation inspired by the original source rather than a direct interpretation. It happens so often with literary adaptations. I really enjoyed watching the 1984 version and enjoyed the Children of Dune which is available on Prime which gave me a small, passing introduction to the bigger story arc. I've never read the books but I am of the generation when it first came out, a couple of friends at school used to walk around with these really thick paperbacks and I will be taking the time to enjoy soon. Just as with the LOTR and Tolkien, so much there to enjoy. I really enjoy Scifi and fantasy and the Dune series does seem to be a classic cannon of work I've missed.
@@enochroot9438 If you read the books, they are indirectly the father of literally every sci-fi movie, tv show and almost all the books for the last 60 years... Frank Herbert, the grandfather of science fiction.
@@Navschannel3908 "Frank Herbert, the grandfather of science fiction." - is he? There are numerous authors apparently not inspired by him, there are authors inspired by authors that wrote before Frank Herbert, there exist whole world of non-American s-f (including sub-genres not existing in US). Broaden up.
I didn't particularly appreciate how Chani was presented either. She acted like she didn't believe or didn't want to believe in Paul. I also didn't find their relationship believable because there was no chemistry between the actors.
This has to be quite possibly the best movie I've ever seen in IMAX. Absolutely fantastic story line and cinematography. Never a dull moment. I already can't wait for part 3.
@mattlawson714 Oh, the sound track from Hanz Zimmer is awesome and in IMAX it just doesnt get any better. I have some of the sounds stuck in my head like when Paul rode the Sandworm and a few others. It's that good. ᑐ ᑌ ᑎ ᕮ is a masterpiece by Denis Villanueva for sure.
The hooks are a key feature to the scene, as they make the worm rise to the surface when Paul pulls the scaly plate open exposing the skin between. addendum I wrote this six months ago and now with 17 comments internal conficts continues I did read all the novels and the hooks go into the scales to lift it I don't know why that is the detail. Negatives comments may continue for a sci fi story written many years ago and made into a movie twice............... really ?
@hendman4083 only when going through underground aquifers - they are meant to allow the worm to drain water from damp sand without having to open the mouth So the analogy is because you can breathe through your mouth shouldn't you be fine with a hair dryer pointing down your throat
I said “that’s what she said” and then the whole theater laughed again and they all stood up and clapped and the president came down and gave me an award and handshake.
what worm. i dont actually see any worm. only sand movement. they should learn from monster movie where ut actually show the monster and not just the darkness horror background
This film is a visual and auditory masterpiece. If it does not sweep the Oscars next year for every technical category and win Best Picture, I’m going to be writing some letters to people of import.
I've watched this movie 3 times in the cinema at this point. Not a single movie has ever brought the amount of goosebumps and excitement as this one. It's just as good even on the third watch. Best movie I've ever seen. Hence why I've seen it 3 times in a matter of 3-4 weeks.
As the son of a Bene Gesserit, he was most likely going through their mantra. Fear is the mind killer. Have you read the book yet? Still such a masterpiece, even after having read it 5 times.
The worms are impressive but what is their method of propulsion? The sand must be fired out of its anus at high velocity like a jet ski. The worm must weigh up to about 50,000 tons so the power output required could be as much as 1000 megawatt at that speed, which seems extremely high for a biological organism.
What a masterpiece of moviemaking! Sparse dialogue because the drama is overwhelming and the visuals do the talking. Now this truly does justice to the Dune novels. Nothing cheesy in this clip!
Looking forward to the movie. Only thing that bothers me: dude has spent years on Arrakis at this point and has a complexion that would render him invisible against a glacier lol.
I’ve been reading the books since the 60’s and have seen all the movies and tv series. This is the only movie that shows what conquering and riding a sandworm must be like. Absolutely fantastic!
Last week I was in the Cinema and watched Dune 2...I was so impressed, so overwhelmed by the Masterpiece that unfolded in front of my ears, eyes, that I go again this Saturday and watch it once more! There is still so much to discover... This thing you have to watch several times! Everything is epic in this movie, pictures, storyline, music!!!! My favorite movie in a long time! ❤👌👌👌
There's a reason organisms don't get this big. They would need huge amounts of food to produce enough energy to move. They would run out of food and starve. Whales have the vast oceans to consume unlimited quantities of fish. They also glide effortlessly through the water.
Everyone thinks they're the Bees Knees until a Giant Worm pop outs the ground. Those Sardaukar soldiers must have been thinking "I wasn't supposed to be here today!!!!" or "We didn't train for this!". I still want to see a scene that demonstrates how the hell they get the palanquin onto the Worm with the Reverend Mother inside. I'm thinking suspending the palanquin between two mounds on rope. Feel free to describe your theory....
