Yeah, I've seen a bunch of reactions from people who know nothing at all about this book, or even any of the movies. I find myself talking to the screen and explaining to them what they are seeing (LOL). I even recognized that Pink Floyd Song!
Ive seen so many reactions of dudes with all sci fi posters and memorabilia stuff in the background like "I dont know what going on, this looks like Star Wars" lol wtf! This guy gets it
OMG! That's exactly it feels. Thanx for putting this into the right words. It did feel like that. I've been re-reading Dune since I was a teenager. I'm fifty now, and yes, they do feel like old friends!
I totally get it!! For me as a kid the Dunes books were my escape window, when I was in a bad place. These characters became my closest friends and confidants!! Seeing what Denis did, I am beyond static, to see the whole movie, He did not disappointed us!! Woohoo!!!!!!!
Watching *you* watch the trailer was pure joy. Your eyes are so expressive. You obviously have such a deep appreciation for the original material and the effort made here. Praying that DUNE is the surprise ending to 2020 we all desperately need.
YES! The headboard! I have watched the trailer and a lot of reactors to this but not a one has mentioned the headboard 1:56 . So many things are being done correctly here. Love it :-)
Watching your reaction brought me tears of joy, seeing someone as excited as I’m about this adaptation, knowing what you’re seeing on the screen and how this work was and will always be important for the sci-fi universe, how the books influenced so many acclaimed works we have today and has not yet received due recognition. Best reaction I've seen so far 😍🙏🏻🇧🇷
I'm watching this 3 years later and your excitement is so authentic and overwhelming that makes me want to see Dune part 1 again 😍 I managed to skip all trailers and simply went to the cinema... Oh my, the gasp when I saw the ornithopter! ❤ Hope you are doing well and I'm pretty sure you enjoyed Part 2 of Villeneuve's Dune 😊 Have a fantastic day!
DUNE, I've been waiting 37yrs. for someone to have the Love of and the Ability to do Frank Herbert's DUNE+, Cinematic Justice. And this film is only the first half of the 1st book !
Yup i almost cried as well when i first saw it and i have now watched the trailer way to many times and i still get goosebumps every time.I have not been this excited for a movie since star wars a new hope came out( yes i'm that old(51) and Lord of the rings trilogy.
One of the most interesting reactions I have seen. No mention of the stuff in the hand being spice, I will mention. Side note: Google helped me identify the Papua New Guinea flag in the background. Love 21C!
Dude. I mean - DUDE! I read Dune for the first time when I was 14. In 1976. (yeah I'm old, shu'uuup). And your reaction is pretty much exactly mine. I am So Hype for this movie. Damn - I wish I could watch it with you! I'll be there in spirit, my friend! :)
Dune was the first SF novel I read. I was around 13 or 14. No other SF was able to compete, so I ended up reading more science fantasy. When ‘84 rolled around, I I saw the film in the theatre when I was 16, and after that, waited for the technology to reach a point that seeing another adaptation would be more feasible. Looks like it has arrived, eh? 🤓 Btw, I don’t think they’ve used Frank Herbert’s pronunciation of the words/names.
I love that someone is calling the characters of the book by their names when they appear. Not "oh thats Aquaman!" "Josh Brolin!!" "uuh who is that again.. where did i see him... urgh... uhm..." (trailers runs by) Title screen: "Oh yes, Star Wars! He played Poe! Hm, trailer was okay.." Sry, i am very cynic. xD
shadowseer07 well..whatever it takes for my fans so be it.eventually they will be immersed in the sorry ..the first Dune movie I saw was epic..yet Paul for me didn't stand out as much as Fey who was Baron Harkonnan nephew ..seeing Sting in the movie as Fey convinced me to watch Dune. As Sting was very popular at that time as a singer and overall influencer of upcoming styles and music ..
Nice reaction from a true fan of the books... I liked that immensely. It’s a very nice change of the usual "Sci-Fi reactors" who know nothing about how George Lucas gladly plundered Frank Herbert story to create Star Wars...
Fantastic to see a reaction from a book reader and fan. I first read Dune getting on for 50 years ago yes 50 it was then and still is the best SF I have ever read. Along with the next 5 books in the series which are all brilliant. If you haven't already I highly recommend you read all 6 books of the series by Frank Hebert. As a true Dune fan you are in for a real treat but strap yourself in for a helluva ride it is truly epic in the proper sense of the word. Upticked and sub'd
I've made it my goal to finish the series over the last few years! Tho I can barely make it into Messiah before I get the urge to re read the first one again 😅 it's just where my heart is. But I swear one day soon, imma finish this!
@@Logan4315 I know the feeling its hard to get past Dune and the rest are not the easiest reads in the world. They are true literature beautifully written and a truly epic story in the true sense of the word epic right to the end of Chapterhouse Dune. Shame Frank Herbert dies before writing the 7th book to finish the story but we got what we got.
Now THIS is REACTION. Like it alot. Very informative.. Bro, since you bin stap lo VF, I'd love for you to react to Angelina Jordon's Audition of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queens..
I will second everyone else by saying you reaction to the trailer and knowing who the characters were was pretty awesome. I've been geeking out watching the teasers and figuring out what point in the book is taking place. By the way you know that the Pink Floyd cover is a nod to Jodorowsky's Dune, right? :)
I'm actually just learning about this! Jowdorowsky's Dune is one I'm actually not too familiar with, but it's been pointed out here! I gotta find it and watch 😭
@@Logan4315 - Jodorowsky actually never got to make the movie. But it is still incredibly important because of the people he had working on the project. He hired artists Moebius and HR Giger (who would go on to provide the art and design to the Alien movies) to do concept art for his vision of Dune. The cast Jodorowsky put together was crazy too - he convinced Salvador Dali to play the Emperor, and other actors included Orson Welles, Mick Jagger, Gloria Swanson and David Carradine. Somebody did a documentary about the project in 2013.
Is dune or messiah the first in the series? My grandma used to read this to me when I was around 6 years old. I'd love to read it before seeing the film. Also never seen the lynch adaption.
@@dustfan I am so embarrassed...I've been there multiple times. Wrote a novel set there (Primal Shadows). My wantoks would beat me (and rightly so). Only excuse: brain blanked out. Mi gat hed i pen. (Do you know a lawyer named Wilfred Golman?)
@@alanfoster6589 Lol, no worries. It looked familiar to me as well but I had to look it up. I was an exchange student in 94 and one of the options was PNG but I ended up going to New Zealand.
Your comment, “ it’s a crusade now!” has me wondering. Is Villeneuve using “crusade” in place of “jihad”? I’ve decided to read the book again. Just for the fifth time, not 50 like mr hotshot ;)
@@Logan4315 in the reports from test screenings.... they DO use the word jihad . however I can see why they used crusade for the trailer due to the way the word is taken nowadays... especially for ppl who don’t know the book it woulda been like wtffffff
This is exactly how I felt. It’s so clear you know the book so well. I saw your face when certain characters appeared. You can see how much they mean to you. Loved it:
Thank you man! This is the first reaction Vid I've ever done, so it HAD to be for Dune! I've been obsessed with this book for the better half of my life! 🤩 I've so much hype for it 🐛
so awesome to see fans of the books reactions :-) . Your joy is infectious. when I see a non book reader reaction vid I have posted "go to QUINN'S IDEAS channel" for dune lore vids
That has to be one of the most earnest and honest reaction to this trailer I've seen. I feel you man, I feel you... I'm getting so anxious over seeing this movie I'm getting waves of paranoid thoughts like "What if I get hit by a bus before I get to see it??" Gotta walk close to the walls for a while xD
@@Logan4315 right? Can't catch covid, can't even catch the flu, gotta play it safe. Then we'll get there, watch it, cry, think we can finally die happy... Light will come up and we'll suddenly remember this was only the first of 2 and now we gotta stay alive a few years more!!! Just be safe and healthy basically, and live long and pros- wait, wrong universe.
When the best living director is making a movie about the best sci-fi novel ever written. Villeneuve is here to save 2020. The day I learned Denis was directing a Dune movie is something I'll remember the rest of my life.
I love seeing fellow book fans react to the trailer. Yours is my favorite reaction so far. Seeing these iconic characters, locations, objects and feeling like you've always known them... I can't wait.
I give a thumbs up to any reviewer who had read the book, then critiques the trailer. This is not David Lynch’s book, it’s Frank Herbert’s book. And Villeneuve is a huge fan of Frank Herbert. Great trailer.👏🏿👏🏿
Did you know that the book was first published by Chilton, who mostly published auto parts and repair manuals, because one of their editors was an SF fan? No major U.S. publisher would touch it. Chilton also published the 1st editions of a few other classics: Ursula K. LeGuin's "Left Hand of Darkness" and James Schmitz's "Witches of Karres". That editor (I forget his name) had great taste.
@ebulating A likely candidate for that would be editor John W. Campbell, who first published it in two sections as serials in Analog magazine (starting in Dec. 1963). Campbell bought other works by Frank as well, but Dune was hardly typical Analog material. John bought it anyway.
I read the Earthsea series from Ursula K. LeGuin and loved them and the Dune series when I was a kid. i agree 100% about the editor. I am glad he was able to spot greatness.
At 14, I sat and read, nonstop, all the way through to "Chapterhouse..." Wait till folks who read deeper finally realize Paul is just a minor character in Duncan's story arc, lol
I had the same reaction as you. I love this book(s) and have read them dozens of times over the past 40 years. I know what is going on in each shot shown in this trailer, every single shot I can tell you where that is in the story. My man Denis!!! If we have a shot at getting Dune for real on the big screen, Denis is the guy to do it ... and do it well. As far as sci-fi movies ... this is the biggest deal ever, since this book led to everything we have seen for the last 50 years; anime, Star Trek, Star Wars, everything. Everything came because of this great book. Those weren't silly noises ... that was joy from someone who gets it!!!
Bro you GET IT!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Dune is the GRAND DADDY of modern sci-fi! I'm still wrapping my head around some of these shots getting another shot at the big screen 🤩 and by Villeneuve's hands no doubt!
I see a dune trailer reaction, i click it. if the person reacting doesn't say they've read the book before the trailer starts, i click away quickly. i love seeing people who love dune as much as I do (or more) see this trailer for the first time, it's such an awesome feeling.. Godfreeman Kaptigau even pointed out the headboard! and NOTHING gets me like someone reacting saying 'fear is the mind killer!' right before he says it in the trailer.
I've just watched 3 reactions from people who have never read the books - and who didn't even know that the previous movie/series were based on books! UGH. Thank you so much for healing me. I've been waiting my entire life for a proper cinematic version of Dune by a great director -- just as I waited 30 years for the sequel to Blade Runner. Who knew that it would be Villeneuve in both of these instances. MAESTRO. Oh my god. Dreams coming true.... And FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER.
02:38 I’ve literally watched about 20 reaction videos to this and didn’t realize it at first but that’s Leto I fighting the bull. And the style of the inscription is vaguely Ancient Greek. Yeah, don’t fear hype. It’s going to be awesome. DV is a real fan.
@@Logan4315 I’m trying to remember - do you know which book it is where they talk vaguely about the ancient ancestry of the Atreides? Like supposedly they are related to the Greek king Agamemnon. There was also some mention of Earth and the Jewish people if I remember correctly. God Emperor?
For real fighting the Bull? Never in my 30 years since reading and watching Dune heard of that ! Wow a word within a word taking to the next level of events
I am not a native English speaker so I read a translation of the book. But DAMN everything that I imagined when reading it... seen it in this trailer. Thank you, Dennis. EDIT: Also, in all movies and games they never made the ornitopter right. It should look like a dragonfly. Literally. Loooook. I saw dragonflies here!!!
