This was the first game that had me literally HOOKED for 16+ hours straight when it was school holidays. Did anyone else sleep and dream of the voice overs aswell? 'reporting, acknowledge, reporting, affrimitive'
Nicely done. I remember this mission took me several hours to complete back in the day. Much respect to you for completing it in just a little over 30 minutes.
Great job and great demonstration of how Atreides had the best endgame tank. Harkonnen devestator was pretty much a defensive unit because of how slow it is, and Ordos deviator is useless with a launcher's accuracy.
I noticed that in the last release of Dune2, they somehow messed up with unit range. The sonic tanks and rocket launchers outrange R-turrets when approached from the east or south, but not west and north. And this range asymmetry applies to all units. This was not so in earlier releases. Because of this, I had to entirely rework my offensive strategy in this mission, because I used to attack the left top angle first.
Yes, the range of rocket turrets is completely dependent on direction. It's also mentioned in a FAQ for this game. Didn't know they changed it from earlier versions, wonder why. Weird they would do that intentionally, but it was a strange time :D
I remember playing this game as a kid and enjoying it so much! I remember thinking the graphics were so crazy and realistic... but at least it still looks fun to me!
Great run. It gets pretty messy with Atreides, though. Your Harkonnen run was cleaner. Too bad these R-turrets cannot be given orders to attack specific units or structures. But it's funny that they don't attack each other, so you can easily basewalk with them into a defended territory.
Thanks, I'm embarrassed to watch this. Should be possible to finish in about same time as Harkonnen with current strategy. At least, this could be couple minutes faster easily. Atreides have the same starting credits as Harkonnen, but Harkonnen gets a trooper unit. It could potentially be used to capture an Atreides turret to start turret rushing early on the right side of the map. That would disable Atreides and maybe Emperor, without even building a second base. Then, a small squad of spaceport units should be able to clear out right side of the map without much resistance. That would only require for the initial rocket turret capture and secondary turret constructions to be successful. Should be possible to start rushing early, while building economy.
@@bormisha the best part of Dune 2 is when the Emperor said "it's sarde carin'" time and sarde cared all over them. I was literally shidding and pissing 😢😢😢
That's, like, impossible because of the Harkonnen rockets that wipe some of your buildings away with each launch. And in 4 hours you'd see dozens of such rockets
Yesterday I played the same mission. Began attacking Ordos, then the Sardaukar who were almost invincible, rebuilding each time ASAP their cannons and WOR. By the time I reached their palace the Starport gave nothing but Quads and Heavy Factories produced nothing despite having little to no units in the map. Really hate when you canta produce tanks/launchers despite having spice
cool, but u were lucky cause missle no fck up your base. My strategy is usually send many launchers to flat from ground palaces and after then massive defense for killing them softly and long :D
I take my time with these missions. Just last night I redid the atreides mission 9 for a little over one hour. By the way, did you know you can kill sandworms with the spice blooms?
It becomes rather easy once you figure out the patterns and get used to controlling single unit at a time. AI is just a punching bag. Just avoid scouting at the beginning and you have plenty of time to get units and turrets.
I ment this was the fastest completion of the final mission on any house at the time of posting the video. Times have come down significantly since then though. Current record for this mission on Atreides is 16:53
base walking turrents in his own base to keep computer occupied the AI is pretty stupid, won't attack the turrets in it's own base, even when they massacre every new unit within his own base
Yes, but they can sometimes miss depending on firing angle and range. I'm probably not using them optimally in this video. You should use other units for scouting etc.
@@orensampson On older machines, at least, the range of attack on a Sonic Tank was dependent on the speed which the game was being run. Playing it at max speed gave it a range close to what you're thinking, outranging literally any other unit.
Интересный старт. Я обычно отстраиваю забор из башен на основной базе, чтобы там никто не трогал, спокойно развиваюсь под его прикрытием и потом иду в массовую атаку. Это если за Атрейдесов, или Харконенов. А за Ордосов - девиаторы все делают сами =)
Забор из башен, кнш хорошо, но, увы, долго... и за это время тебе изрядно потреплют нервы (и базу) два дворца с ракетами. А девиаторы... на мой взгляд, это самый бесполезный юнит в игре.
@@SlonTopotun вы просто не умеете ими (девиаторами) пользоваться! При эффективном их применении (и наличии обороны из башен), стою технику можно вообще не строить (только носители) И кстати, дворцы противника очень быстро разрушаются именно что девиаторами, главное разведать их
@@SlonTopotun Алгоритм использования девиатора: 1. Превратил технику соперника 2. Сразу отправить сам девиатор в безопасное место, возможно даже на ремонт 3. Дать технику соперника команду марш через всю карту 4. После чего в меню техники соперника нажать "атаковать", но не указывать куда. Ждать! 5. Дождаться, пока техника соперника вернётся в исходный цвет 6. Указать цель! (У нас же всё ещё открыто меню "атаковать") И вуаля - бот думает, что это он отдал приказ атаковать своих.
@@kronos913 Проблем несколько: 1) Превращение техники происходит по неизвестным алгоритмам... я неоднократно сталкивался с ситуацией, когда девиатор (или даже их группа) стреляет по цели, попадает, но превращения не происходит. 2) После неудачной попытки превращения техника подходит ближе и ракеты девиатора уже не попадают по цели вовсе, а он сам быстро превращается в груду металлолома. 3) Марш через всю карту это здорово! Но потом марширующий все равно вернётся. 4) Дальше уже, как я понимаю, начинается неизвестный мне багоюз... а я такое не приемлю. Но всё же, рассмотрим... 5) Ждать, эт кнш здорово, но техника перекрашивается обратно весьма небыстро... и всё это время сидеть с прожатой кнопкой атаки, и нихрена не делать? 6) Я правильно понимаю, что техника будет атаковать цель до полного уничтожения?
@@SlonTopotun марш через всю карту в третьем пункте делается для того, чтобы ускорить обратное перекрашивание во время шестого. Нужно нажать "марш", указать через всю карту, желательно в "черные" зоны на карте, а потом сразу же наживать "атаковать" и ждать обратного перекрашивания. Атаковать он будет в 99% до полного уничтожения цели. Если же отправить его стрелять в пустоту - то он будет вечно туда стрелять (иногда, в начале уровня отправляю наугад куда-то в черную зону) Касательно того что девиатор не всегда срабатывает. Если не сработал - нужно бежать к своим башням под защиту. Тут есть другой важный момент: нужно смотреть на свой девиатор (в смысле чтобы свой девиатор был в пределах окна) и НЕ смотреть на преследующую его технику. Тут есть свой нюанс: техника в пределах окна едет раза в 2 быстрее техники за его пределами. И таким образом, можно удрать от всего, кроме трайков и червей

А зачем девастаторы? дорого стоит, медленно ползает, не далеко стреляет, да еще и при уничтожении коцает все вокруг, в т.ч. своих... соник - имба-танк. Кроме того, тут спид-ран, а пляски с захватом тормозят процесс.
Т завод лучше не раздалбливать, его следует захватить, при наличии Икс центра, можно с помощью т-завода сардаукаров выпускать Соник танки и Девастаторы из одного завода
зря т завод Сардауааров раздодбали.у них тоже есть соник танки,как у Атрейдесов,я б захватил и получил соникк танк девастатор в одном заводе. Захватил б А завод,у них тоже естт орнитоптеры,как у Атрейдесов.Жаль дворец нельзя захватить.
my mom believed that i was crazy for so many hours in the pc, 5 6 hours...i think the only house that u can beat the game was atreides, nothing special, just for the sonic tank, it has the advantage of range n drag, also harkonen, with devastator n death hand, but i beat many more times with atreides
