There are only a few dates left on the tour in North America and second hand tickets cost thousands of dollars. As a casual fan, I think I'd rather stick with the first base game. It's somewhat easier to introduce to people and I believe gives a much better first impression since the scoring will be tight compared to Uprising with the worms like you mentioned.
I rarely comment if ever, but the quality of the videos is pretty darn high, the videos answer most questions within 15-25min and I appreciate how you left the subjective insights until the end, it was very helpful with Scythe. Subscribed after 2 videos!
I have an eye on this game for a while now but wasn't sure which one to get. This video was very helpful and made clear to me that I'd prefer uprising! I particulary liked how you described your own experiences with the competitivity and sandworms. It provides an insight that I hadn't found other places and really gives the sensation that I am making a weighted choice. Thank you for the great content!
You both did an excellent job presenting the games and expansions in a concise and clear manner. I've played both base games (but no expansions) and I really enjoy the tidied up experience in Uprising. I find the spaces better balanced. I also enjoy the spies (which give you more to think ahead about) and Choam module. 5 Uprising games in, it remains a game I want to play again and again. I'm looking forward to see what expansions will come out for it.
I really like the expansions, I just love that they give you other areas to explore while still keeping you laser focused on the goal of getting to 10 VP. Glad to hear you're enjoying Uprising!
Thanks for your well expressed and honest feelings. Having chucked a pile of money on DI and both the expansions I think this v1.5 so very soon after Immortality is very cheeky and I won't be getting it on principle. But I'll happily try someone else's copy.
Same, got the deluxe upgrade and the expansions only for it to be "replaced" by a new version that's apparently much better. Not buying out of principle but expect to cave if the rest of the family ever get the bug for DI.
I think that is totally fair. Honestly, we mostly got it to make this video - but in the end we are glad we did. For us it really invigorated our love for DI, but the minor changes and updates make it a tough sell for most people with all the pre-existing content.
Awesome review! As someone who has the original DI w/ both Rise of Ix and Immortality, I was hesitant to get Uprising because I didn't know if you could combined it with all the other content, and since it appears you can, and that the game seems overall improved (despite the swinginess of the worms effect on scoring) I guess I have to go get Uprising now!

I'm keeping core game + 2 expansions which are brilliant. For 2P game I'll always recommend to use automa/bot for solo mode. Easy to manage, just right, with different level difficulties. I'm not buying uprising with double rewards, cause core game is great because how tight it is. great review
I really enjoy uprising and I'm not sure I'll ever add anything from imperium and the expansion but i see myself playing the original (Ix and Immo) just as much as the new version once the "brand new" appeal wears off.
I absolutely LOVE original Dune Imperium and have not yet added the expansions.. partly as I thought it would be dead money since future content may not be compatible… plus on principle I am a bit annoyed at Dire Wolf that fans of the original have this conundrum now. Since being new to that series and having not played any of both, I was thinking to go straight with the uprising version, however this aspect of the worms got me thinking again over that... looks like there might be a consolidated "complete" edition soon on the horizon...
Thanks for this. The swingy end game points does worry me slighly but most people are saying uprising is the game to go for if you dont own the original. With that in mind i am considering getting uprising when its back in stock. As i like adding expansions, I wonder which you think works best and gives most to uprising? Im going to do a bit of research into what both expansions bring to the game but I'd value your opinion.
I prefer Immortality to Rise of Ix, but they are both very solid. However, Immortality has the benefit of not requiring any changes to Uprising, while you have to make some small changes to Rise of Ix.
I am a fan of Dune: Imperium, the original one. I don't have any expansions. I must have also been living in a cave, because this is the first I have head of Dune: Imperium Uprising. It seems...weird...to redo a highly thought of game's rules so quickly. On the face of it, just listening to your explanation, I'm not a fan of complicating mechanisms. When you guys say the cards are more interesting... Are they more interesting and more complicated? I feel that 90% of expansions just add extra complexity and extra fiddliness. If I love a game, what I want is more variation. For this game, it might have been different (non complicated) faction abilities or different (non complicated) cards. I don't want new mechanisms.
I would say they are more interesting. I always thought that the Imperium cards from DI were a little bland/uninteresting...or at least too high a proportion were. That's why the family atomics token from the expansions that lets you wipe the row once per game was probably the best addition to gameplay for the original. I think the only new mechanism they interact with are spies (e.g. sending them out). So I think they are okay. Tbf you do also get different faction abilities here. I think in general there are more mechanisms which will put people off due to the increased mental load, but many changes are for the better - I think the worker placement spaces are much more robust and interesting overall. Totally fine though to stick with DI, I mean it is still the "7th" best game of all time. If you've got it, use it!
Good video, gives a good overall synopsis and how things fit together (or don't fit together as nicely). Hopefully the uprising game includes "fixes" (even if only minor) when including the original and/or any expansions (still deciding which one(s) to get). 2 minor nits about the video, well 1 moderate and 1 minor. First the bigger thing: the sound being jacked up to nearly 2x the volume for music between commentaries vs. the rather soft spoken (and at times difficult to understand for US listeners! Which is the minor nit...but combines together with the moderate nit) requiring the VOLUME to be adjusted in order to hear the commentary, but then having eardrums blown out by the music with the sudden music and title screen of the next sections. It required me to turn up the volume close to max (150%) to hear the commentary and then have to turn the volume down to 50% of normal when music blasted.😮😱😵💫 It seriously got so annoying (again moderate nit to pick, not a deal breaker, but enough to make me stop the video half way thru to drop this lengthy note) that I couldn't finish the video without leaving this comment. Fix the volume issue for the music in between each section (just keep it at nor al volume instead of 2x the normal vol!) so listeners can enjoy what they came here for...to learn more about the various versions of games! :) Hard to subscribe to something for any other videos, but I'll probably finish this one as I am definitely interested in rhe view/take of which version to get. Just my "2 sense" worth no cents! 😉😁

@BoardOfItReviews I guess it's just me then 🤷 🙃 But yours is the first video for boardgames videos I've ever made that comment regarding the "cut music" for either intro of video or transition between segments. Everyone has different hearing sensitivities, but I've never had to adjust a video so far up and down (probably felt exaggerated due to the loud music bc I could crank it up to 130-150% as needed to hear you explain your thoughts, but then literally had to cut the volume in half (50-70% normal) when the next segment started and music blared. I wasn't even using headphones or earbuds, just my phone speakers. It is odd that I am the only one to mention the volume differences between your great explanations and thoughts (I love British accents and pick up on meanings easier than most I know from various accents, be they Asian, Indian, European, etc when speaking English, but I did have to rewind a few times even to these sensitive ears lol 😆) & the music level. But maybe again it's just me lol. Thanks for taking time to write back!I'll go ahead and subscribe just for that reason alone, and taking the nits being picked so well 😁 Perhaps just adjust the music volume a bit lower for us sensitive-eared folks since others probably don't care (and just care to hear what you have to say). @@buyaka777 Tbf with the music we did get that comment before a long time ago, which is why we ended up always lowering the volume of the music to 40ish %. Also for most of our videos we only have music once, not a lot like these ones so hopefully that is more to your ears!
First off, Great video!!!! I just learned about both games recently and was soooo confused about what was going on. I mean, I still am but a little less so thanks to your fine efforts. I particularly enjoyed you explaining things in order of release and playability. Due to health I wasn't able to participate in board games as I wanted and missed all this so wonderfully done. That being said, if I understand things that is. I can get Uprising and then just the expansions for Imperium and skip the first Dune base game all together and really not miss a beat??
Ah, so thanks, Dire Wolf Games! I have to take and throw away my big box with miniatures and expansions of the base game... This really seems like an unfortunate move, forcing me to buy Uprising without being able to upgrade the old one to the new one, not even with another game board. Hmm... very puzzled!😡
Tbh, as minimal as the changes are to gameplay, like every component in Uprising aside from the resource tokens and player pieces are different so there is no easy upgrade kit. Thankfully everything fits in one box!

I love couples doing reviews. The completist in me wants to know if by going straight to uprising am I going to have less characters to play as? Will i have less cards? Is the combined version just better than just the one? Its so much money also to have a complete experience.
In short, yes, you'll have less cards & characters than if you buy both games, but you aren't missing out on so much. The cards are far more interesting in Uprising and the expansions, and while the extra characters are nice, you still get like 8 or something so you'd have to play a fair few times to be them all.
Question regarding who you can play as. Are the 8 houses that come with the original game included with Uprising? If not, do you know if you can obtain them separate to use with uprising? Do you feel they work well in Uprising, or not needed at all? Thank you for this very informative and well done video, and the helpful info on playing 2 player compared to 3 and 4 player. I haven't played uprising yet but play imperium solo. I think the solo in this is brilliant and always gives a really close game. Very interested in uprising though. This was a great help for me, great video. 😃
No problem! I haven't tried out the solo in Uprising, but I expect to be a little more interesting since you have different "rivals" which act differently in terms of their ring & spy powers.
