Dune is an upcoming 2020 epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom and the United States, and it is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book.
The film stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya Coleman, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.
Dune is scheduled to be released in the United States in IMAX and 3D on December 18, 2020, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
In the far future of humanity, Duke Leto Atreides accepts stewardship of the dangerous desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune, the only source of the most valuable substance in the universe, "the spice", a drug which extends human life, provides superhuman levels of thought, and makes foldspace travel possible. Though Leto knows the opportunity is an intricate trap set by his enemies, he takes his Bene Gesserit concubine Lady Jessica, young son and heir Paul, and most trusted advisers to Arrakis. Leto takes control of the spice mining operation, which is made perilous by the presence of giant sandworms. A bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis who live in the deep desert.

Greeny202a ummmmm, no one cares? The race of the Fremen is never really discussed and they were literally depicted as all white in the 1984 film. And Liet Kynes being a man or woman has no bearing on his/her role in the story.

The race of the Fremen is not discussed in the books directly as neither the race of any of the houses but the WHOLE DUNE UNIVERSE is set in a future 20,000 years from today with groups like the Fremen with tens of thousands of years of evolution within their own groups. THERE WOULD NOT BE THE KIND OF DIVERSITY WE SEE IN PRESENT DAY UNIIED STATES. The director has chosen to depict the Fremen as Eurasian and the Atreides as European Liet Kynes is half Atreides and half Fremen and thus to depict him as a west African female is completely against the authors storyline and a quite unwelcome insertion of diversity. If the director had chosen to depict the Fremen as African the Kynes could have been African BUT HE DIDN'T.

@@greeny202ab this story (Dune) is actually set only 8000 years in the future, and as such who has any idea what humanity will look like? It is ridiculous to assume human societies will fit into neat racial categories. The Fremen were in part based on the Bedouin and San peoples (in addition to other nomadic cultures), who range from the Middle East and the Levant all the way to South Africa. Those peoples are dark-skinned, certainly not white. It is reasonable to suggest that the Fremen, who span an entire planet, would be diverse in their racial makeup if they are the descendants of multiple cultures, as conceptualized by Herbert. Nothing suggests that they or any group in Dune is a racial monolith. Thus, the only thing Liet's race influences is the appearance of her daughter, and Chani is depicted by Zendaya, a half-black woman, so that checks out. Also worth pointing out that Duke Leto Atreides is being portrayed by a Guatemalan, and I didn't hear you say anything about him. At the end of the day, it's a movie, and it is really weird how mad you're getting about a relatively unimportant character's race and sex. I haven't seen a single reaction video from anyone who has read the books who is mad about Liet Kynes.

don't be insulting, that is Pink floyd, from the greatest album of all time, they were going to do the original soundtrack to the moebius/jodorowski/giger movie in 1974, the story board was picked up by a young george lucas and light swords were turned into light sabres for a tiny movie you might have heard of

The music is an arrangement by Hans Zimmer on an original Pink Floyd theme ("Eclipse"). Unfortunately, I don't think there will be a franchise; most likely a second movie covering the second half of the first book. But no, I don't think anyone will give Denis money to make a "Dune: Messiah" movie: too dark, too depressing, too pessimistic. Less to say, Chalamet and Zendaya's legions of fans will allow Warner Brothers and Villeneuve to blind Chalamet and let him die in the desert, and Chani to die in childbirth. Sorry for the news, guys, but I do recommend to read the saga.

Charlotte Rampling plays the Reverend Mother. If you read the book. (it's not that hard, really). You would know that she reads her lines perfectly in those scenes. The Bene Gesserit "KNOW" things and if you pay attention to the beginning of the book., the Reverend Mother reveals a lot about what is going to happen. It is a common literary tool to make "people" who have that much knowledge and power, "otherworldly". She is "matter of fact" because she and her Order are on the outside, in the background (on purpose). Pulling the strings of this particular civilization. They are deliberately distant and cold. Which makes the Lady Jessica (Paul's mother) such an interesting character. I really suggest that anyone interested in this movie, read the book. There are so many examples of "circles in circles" in it, that it will make the experience more enjoyable. (and help remove the misconceptions that are easy made from not "knowing".)

The music is a song created by Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was all set to provide music for the first Dune movie project back in the 70s. Unfortunately that project fell through before filming. I agree. Charlotte pitched that perfectly! She has a quiet easy menace, not a pantomime witch as portrayed in that other film I refuse to mention. Villeneuve has worked wonders here. He obviously loves the book as much as I do

@@BongoBaggins I agree too! I think her voice carries half the trailer, but I haven't seen her getting a lot of love from reactors. Properly authoritative and, as you say, quietly menacing - gave me shivers. Some people just don't know great acting when they see (or hear) it.

Correction: The music was ACTUALLY made by Hans Zimmer - he worked with a choir over a audio-video streaming system, to record this Pink Floyd "cover" - but I suspect this will be more of a final credits song, than anything you hear in the middle of the movie.

They already have the sequel planned and 2 shows on hbo max... and the movie was shot in the deserts of Jerusalem. The music is from Dark side of the Moon by Pink Floyd who was supposed to do the soundtrack of the Dune movie that was never made which all science fiction movies that have been successful took from. There’s a documentary about it

Pink Floyd is cheesy? No. Never say that again. Eclipse is a beautiful song and the lyrics are fitting. There was going to be a Dune movie with a Pink Floyd soundtrack but it was never made. They included this song as a nod to that. I was going to let the remark about not liking Oscar Isaac slide but calling the song choice cheesy is a big no-no for me...

I'm sorry, but even if this winds up being better than the previous attempts (there have been two), it won't work. The book is too idea based, too intellectual, to ever translate to a visual medium. It's like trying to make a movie of Asimov's Foundation, or Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead (the 2nd which has been tried, but badly). Certain things just CAN'T translate mediums.
