Long life Dune fan here. One of the best part was Javier Bardem's face when he sees Paul riding the worm. That's just so telling of the relationship between them.

Being an avid reader of everything Frank Herbert wrote, I’m so excited to see how closely they stick to his work. Knowing what happens to all of them, I’m anticipating it being tough to watch, but still a story that needs to be shared.
Hi Katie here! I couldn't agree more! Yea I was very worried when the first film came out that they we going to try and oversimplify the story and themes. But from the line where Paul screaming, "THATS NOT HOPE!" it even seems like they are going to delve into Paul's conflicting feelings about his destiny and Frank Herbert sentiments on charismatic leaders. Do you think this movie will catapult us into more adaptations of the Dune universe? It feels like we at least have to get a Dune Messiah adaption given the caste and Jason Mamoa as Duncan Idaho. What do you think? Which novel would you be most excited to see adapted?
@@holdmydualshock I think Messiah would be the most interesting film out of all the ones we are likely to get adapted. But I would love to get Chalamet to return for Children of Dune and continue to explore his longest running character, but that's only a distant distant possibility.
Hi Katie here, yes I agree I loved Dune Messiah and I think it might be the most emotionally heavy book in the entire series. I think you are right that its adaptation could be something special. I love the casting of Chalamet as well he is a perfect Paul and I would love to see him grow older as Paul. What do you think would be the biggest hurdle to having Chalamet play Paul through to children of dune? I know he is an incredible in demand actor but I think the Dune series could be the sort of film to set his career into the stratosphere. I know many people talk about him winning an Oscar one day and he definitely has the talent. I think the story of dune messiah could be exactly the movie to rake in a load of Oscars including best actor. What do you think?
@@holdmydualshock Hi! I’m going to assume that Franks readership increased with the release of the first Dune. I don’t however see it as being something they can continue long-term. I think the film will get us through the Butlerian Jihad. Paul’s days as the Freman leader and Chani’s death. But I don’t think they will continue. The book I would most like to see adapted is probably Chapterhouse. I loved the exploration of the Tyrants effects on Bene Jesserit. As well as the coming of Honored Matre’s and the differences of both in the scattering. Realistically they can only continue the story on the back of Duncan Idaho. Since he exists in all books.
@@MissMirokie well they're doing a Bene Gesserit spinoff TV show so they'll probably delve into that sort of stuff. Depending on WHEN they will want to base the show on.

My favorite character in Dune is Stilgar. In the books, he has a very interesting journey. In the films, Javier Bardem portrays Stilgar so perfectly. His reaction to Paul riding the worm still makes me emotional; it looks like he has a profound spiritual experience. Part 2 is going to be amazing.

The first one was one of my favorite Denis villeneuve films and one of my favorite movies of 2021. It was a masterpiece. Based on this trailer, it looks like it will surpass it! Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Florence Pugh as the Emperor's daughter and Christopher Walken as the Emperor??? Let's go!!!!!
Katie here, and I couldn't agree more! I was so happy so many people invested in the first film because the story of Dune is so profound. Denis Villeneve is an outstanding director and the perfect choice to bring the immensely complicated but also rewarding dune books to life. I love that there has been no compromise in his approach. From day one he said it would take 2 films to make Dune and he got it done. It was such a bold decision and had audiences not loved the first film we could have been left without and ending. You are 100 percent right the casting is unbelievable! The scope of this cast gives me so much hope that there are at least loose plans to adapt Dune Messiah next. Katie here, yea I might have gotten a little over excited lol Dune is one of my favorite books and seeing it brought to life is just amazing! You and Peter are right though Feyd looks stunning and Austin Butler is completely transformed. I had never heard of him before Elvis but he is an unbelievable addition to an already near perfect cast.

I saw him for the first time in Once upon a time in Hollywood and didn’t even know he was Tex after seeing Elvis and looking up previous roles of his. He’s got major acting chops. Besides the giant fucking worm, He will most likely steal the show character wise but hard to say with Christopher Walken being in the Mix.
Irishman here....read Dune and the sequels back in the 1970s and LOVED the first part of Dune,looking forward to the 2nd part of Dune being shown later on this year.👍😄👍
Thanks for commenting! I used to live in Scotland and always supported Ireland in the six nations! Many winter nights I would get home from school and read Dune books and lore. I have been very impressed with the films. I don't think there is a book series like Dune. The Fondation series is close but doesn't have the character and world building of dune. I would love to see how they portray Duncan in chapterhouse . Have you read the Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons ? If you like Dune I think you will enjoy that series as well if you haven't read it yet .
Hoping Tim Blake Nelson is playing Count Fenring to accompany Lea Seydoux’s Margo. One of my favourite characters and his scene with the Baron in the book is amazing. The Baron shitting bricks talking to him.
Katie here, and YES! I hope they haven't cut Fenring. I love how he shows the expansiveness of the Bene Gesserit to breed the the Kwisatz Haderach. I also think he is the first sign that the Bene Gesserit are fallible and they are not able to understand the scope of the golden path as paul does. How do you think they will tackle bringing Alia into the movie?
My only negative impression is that it appears they've removed Count Fenring from the story. Admittedly this is purely based on how much this trailer makes a point of showing Margot, so it's possible they've combined the characters and used Margot to add more strong female characters to the roster. What gives me hope that he might appear is Tim Blake Nelson having been cast in the film, but his role is yet be confirmed. I'm also incredibly curious how they're going to portray Alia and more than Christopher Walken as Shaddam IV, she's the character I'm most interested in seeing how Villeneuve shows her on screen.

We also are extremally interested to see how Christopher Walken pulls off Shaddam. I am so used to seeing him in more silly roles that it will be neat to see him in something serious. I suppose he used to be in a lot of serious films like the Dead Zone. What do you think?
It's a tough balancing act when adapting novels: for example, Harrison's mini-series expanded Count Fenring and dropped Margot Fenring (and Linch didn't have them at all). It wouldn't surprise me if Villeneuve went in the other direction.

I love how the book show the how Arrakis changes and the Fremen change in response to their new place in the galaxy. Do you think they will change the tone of the second and third book to preserve a more traditional hero story for Paul?

Hi! We couldn't agree more. We think dune is going to be a Hollywood changing series of films. My only worry is that people don't understand just how amazing dune is and how incredible the subsequent films are going to be. The first film did only make 400 million which is low when you look at how amazing the film was and how unbelievable the cast is. Sadly it seems like movies need to make closer to a billion to be guaranteed further investment. Dune is my favorite book series and I am so excited to see film adaptations that we can be proud of. What do you think ? Will dune part 2 spark of a tidal wave of interest in the dune universe so that we can get adoptions through to God emperor?
Hi Katie here, you are right you can tell that's exactly what Stillgar is thinking. Javier Bardem is such a great Stillgar. His relationship with Paul is one of my favorite in the books.
Yes I thought that was such a bold style choice. They really have made the harkonnens so menacing and formidable especially the baron who was kind of laughable in the david lynch adaptation.

Katie here, yea I will be so sad if they don't adapt the first 6 books at least. Without it the story wont really be complete . I mean we have to see the Jihad and what happens to Arrakis not to mention the completion of the golden path. Who do you think they could cast as Leto II? It would have to be someone insane to pull of the transformation! Also we have a theory that the casting indicates that there will at least be adaptations of children of dune. Hence the casting of Duncan Idaho into what is otherwise a relatively small role and perhaps Oscar Isaac returning to play a certain old man.
@@holdmydualshock If I remember correctly they have already told that they will adept Dune Messiah after Dune II. And I think Children of Dune would be easy to adept too. But Godemperor will be hard, especially with Leto II, but we can dream. And I think someone like Anthony Hopkins would be awesome as Voice of Leto II
Wow! Anthony Hopkins would be amazing as the voice of a 3000 year old Leto II. SPOT ON , I don't know why I didn't think of that. That's a relief that we will at least get Dune Messiah and to be honest I do not know how someone can experience Dune Messiah and not want to know where the story goes so that fills me with a lot of hope! Yes, the first movie was definitely a slow burn, setting the stage for what will hopefully be an action-packed and more exciting second part, and I think the casting of Austin Butler was amazing... I can't wait to see how he pulls off Feyd
@Hold my Dualshock yes I think he and the director were on the same page with the portrayal of Feyd and that is why he got the part so that is a great thing already and I have heard from the other cast and costumer that Austin did an amazing job. Cannot wait!
Hi Katie here, the first part was amazing I think that dune has the potential to be the sort of series that defines a generation. The books are so genius and with how close the first film was to the book I don't see how the sequel will be anything short of a masterpiece.

100 percent agree! If Hollywood wants to make some money they should adapt the full series. The Dune series would be a rare phenomenon where films are blockbusters and arts projects. Also it is such a great throwback to the book and how Paul is constantly grappling with the Fremen disbelief at the concept of abundant water. I am so excited to see the funeral rite and Paul growing into his place. Do you think that this movie will spark the development of an adaptation to dune messiah?

Also: since you're a fan, did you not watch the first movie (part 1)? Hi Katie here, no we did watch the part 1 that's what made it extra embarrassing! I have actually watched part 1 multiple times smh so I absolutley should have realized it was a fake trailer. All I can say is in the moment we were so excited we just thought that there were a bunch of call backs to part 1. The scenes with Florence Pugh from other movies threw us off the trail as well but yea... they got us pretty good. Thanks so much for commenting and also coming back and watching this reaction. @@holdmydualshock Oh, yes, for sure. I've started reading the books when I was 14. I still have all the Dune (of Frank) books, twofold, because I first bought the expensive original hardcovers, but didn't dare to read them because they were so beautiful, so I bought them again as soft-covers. ;-) I'm quite the fan too, thus, and Villeneuve did a great job; depicting many scenes JUST like I imagined them to be, as a kid. I watched part 1 on the big screen, but not imax (was too late for that), but I'll try to go see part 2 in imax. Heard first part was only 40% in imax form, but part 2 is 100%, and if there's ONE movie that would benefit from imax, it's this one.

Dune mini series was the closest - Feyd should be handsome ... Irulan should be seductfull Harkonnes were not plae white Zendaya is fat ... and Chani was extremly beautiful , in my opinion you will be far better choice for Chani then her. Keyns wasnt women nor the black ! Freemen were Zen Suni - it means they were mixture between orient and arabic ...not african decendants like jamis in first part.... movie is to dark ..Were is Alia ?
Hi Katie here, I must admit I was a little shocked to see all of the Harkonnes bald. Feyd definitely had hair when Sting played him lol. Who would you have picked to play Chani? Also who would you cast as Irulan? I cannot think of a single actress of the top of my head who has that innate regal seductiveness.
@Joe W Show me a movie that adapts a book 1:1 and is still good. You can't. Same sentiments were thrown around with PJ's LotR, and look how immensly popular that turned out to be. Denis Villeneuve knows what he's doing and his respect for the source material is undeniable. Little changes and alterations are par of the course for adapting a book for the big screen. I like the visuals of the Harkonnen's it makes sense for the screen. The casting has proved amazing too for the most part.
