I don’t speak ilocano but I got a cultural project for my singing class. I used this version to learn how to pronounce and sing the whole song to my grandparents and my class. My grandparents were very happy to hear it again after so many years.

my parents would sing this as a lullaby to me when i couldn't sleep. i grew up learning tagalog and english but only know a few words in ilokano so i just thought it was a made up song. now that i know that my parents were singing basically 'i love u' to me as a child in ilokano hits deep.
This version is the perfect tempo for our tribute dance for the upcoming 100th birthday of our mom. Thank you very much and we will keep listening to your music full of nostalgia. God bless and more power!

English translation: I will love and cherish you always I will cradle you to sleep in a soft-cloth swing I will swing you ever so gently And soon enough you will be asleep. (Chorus) O, my aching heart, it aches, it aches, It hurts so badly, it hurts to the core. So, please, please your nurture give, For it would be a pity if I should die. As soon as you have fallen asleep I will cover your face with my handkerchief, So no mosquitoes can bite you And so you can enjoy a good slumber. As soon as you awaken, I will immediately hold you And dandle you like an infant So you can enjoy my sweet smile. I remember my mother used to sing this song to me. And now I miss her more. 😢 Thank you for making videos like this. I’m looking forward for more of your kundiman (Ilocano) songs.
I have commented the lyrics so that when I play this over and over, I have something to read and then sing a long with you. You guys are great! I love your rendition. I came here because my husband and I were talking and I was asking him different translations of the word I love you. As I came to ask the ilokano of that word, I was expecting to hear "ayayaten ka" but instead he said, "dungdungwen kanto unay unay". Honestly, I laughed, coz I thought he was making fun of me. But then he said, to look for the meaning of it. He didn't tell me right away, and when I did find it, I couldn't help but smile. My heart is full! My husband is from La Union, and I am from Pangasinan. I speak Pangasinense so I don't really have any idea when he told me those sweet, sweet words. Then I found this wonderful rendition of yours. God bless you both!
I love the way you perform the guitar sir, and your voice with mam Lita it's a very melodic rendition of the song, i remember my Apong Lakay who used to sing this song to us his apo's when he want us to sleep

I miss this song, "Duay-ya ni Ayat." one of my favorite Ilocano folk love songs performing it with our male choir in Ilocos some years ago... nice chemistry. congrats Sir and Maam! may i pls know where are you based?
I WILL CHERISH YOU I will cherish you with this lullaby I will rock you to rest on a fine cloth mesh I will soothe you to sleep with a gentle sway In a short while you'll soon be at Rest. Chorus My aching heart it hurts so much With a pain so intense that I cry O Lord please shower me with nurture It is pitiful if I were to die And as soon as I knew that you're sound asleep I will cover your face with my handkerchief So no fly will land on your tender face and you'll enjoy your slumber in peace Chorus And when you are awake From your restful sleep I'll be right there to hold you so you don't weep And I'll cuddle you as a little child So you could see my wonderful smile. Chorus
