The 2022 Dungeness crab season was the most lucrative in Oregon history. Unusually for recent years, it started on time, yields were high and prices soared, leading to a boon for commercial crabbers and the coastal communities that depend on them. But Dungeness crab are a fickle species, dependent on a perfect confluence of environmental factors that are changing with the climate. As the 2023 season gets off to a late start, Superabundant captured the action of a record year, from sea to table, with a delicious chili crab preparation from Portland’s Singapore-style supper club, Sibeiho and a visit to the legendary crab races in the coastal town of Garibaldi.
