Great tip on the 2 ply cardboard and running them in opposite directions. I worked on composite builds back in college like this. Also your highlights were spot on man! Great job!

Just found this channel through Bard's Craft, and I gotta say, I am inspired! I always love finding new and simple ways to build terrain, and the idea of using pens to mark out all of the detail feels ingenious. I've always had difficulty taking the time to assemble physical detail on a terrain piece, and painting the details is tedious; drawing, on the other hand, is easy and fun! I'll definitely be applying some of your concepts here to my own terrain.

A Franky D and Bardscraft collab - yeah! Great result with the painted finish - love the suggestion of double thickness opposing the corrugations. Allows you to dig into the depth for features in special tiles too - stairs down, goop pools etc. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The simple shading with the gel pen is major win for very little effort. Great idea. Your tiles look awesome!

Thanks dude! It really got me hooked again on keeping on with my tiles! I was really nervous trying to make it all too perfect I just stopped doing, it's just good and easy!

My first project after getting into the hobby was a set of cardboard dungeon tiles, & since then I've repurposed the basic technique I used into bases for other terrain, as well as a set of coasters for my mom. Also, a mostly unsuccessful attempt to make a better, home-brew Undying Sands... which wasn't because of the cardboard but more because clear dry erase paint is a giant PITA to acquire. My method probably takes longer than Franky's or Lucas's, but produces a stronger & slightly nicer looking product. The main drawback is probably extra time vs. materials/money. 1. cut desired shape out of cardboard, & layer it. I don't bother criss-crossing the corrogations, & honestly it doesn't seem to affect the final product. Glue together using some PVA product (I mostly go for elmer's glue-all, so mid-strength) 2. Optionally, glue on thin foam to the outside (what you get from styrofoam plates & take-out boxes is perfect), & texture it. The foam can be effectively textured, much better than the cardboard, although the cardboard's natural texture actually makes for a pretty good smooth stone effect. 3. Get yourself some play-doh, or knock-off play-doh. Or probably any type/form of modeling clay really, but I use play-doh because it's cheap. Jam this into the corrogations & then smooth it out, basically letting it act as a filler. Let that dry. 3. apply a Black Magic Craft paint+modpodge priming all over the craft. You should only need 1 coat, but don't be shy, you should not see brown showing thru. Do top & bottom, the mod podge strengthens the cardboard, & actually makes it somewhat moisture resistant. Also paint over the playdoh filler on the edges, the result will be a rough but aesthetically pleasing rim, that can be easily styled into something like chipped flint if you so choose. 4. paint however you want 5. I finish off with a matte polycrylic sealent to add additional strength. It has the disadvantage of adding more shine than I like, but not enough to spoil the piece. Swap in your favorite choice of sealent/varnish instead.

If anyone is interested in this kind of terrain crafting but slightly different, I highly recommend Crooked Staff Terrain here on RU-vid. He's got a whole playlist of videos about crafting tiles and dungeon furniture and interiors with cheap stuff like cardboard and paper. He's even got some on cave tiles, trees, and some multi-level dungeon features like stairs and stuff. With that said, I'm gonna stick around and see what other things Franky has done. I like his style.

Simple idea. I love the drawings. I think these are a lot more practical than the foam,, and biodegradable is better any time.. I think I'd do a mix of yours for the main tiles and maybe Bard's for the boss rooms.

I love the double sided, easy! The only thing I would of added was a thin paper strip on the edges to cover the cardboard

Love your stuff dude, not my aesthetic but your techniques help a lot with my stuff. *The only thing I'd do different would be to edge clad with paper and then paint it. Or hell use black construction paper to hide the corrugation. Edited for the fix you did... it's very similar to what I do.

Good call on the double layer for warping, warping is one of th reasons i avoid cardboard. I may have to re-consider

To avoid warping, paint both sides.

This is a great concept! I love the innovation. I have one critique = You should paint the edges of the tiles a neutral color like black or grey. The naked cardboard takes away from the finished aesthetic. It gives a unfinished vibe.

Those troll statues in the temple shot...they are super dungeon explore style. Where are they from? What size? Great video, by the way, and great use of the white pen.
